  • In this research, the digital signal processing PC board which employs TI's TMS320C25 is implemented. The board can perform following functions. spectrum analysis of speech and repetitive signal, digital filters emulation by convolution, signal generation of sinusoidal wave, rectangular wave etc.. In this system, communications between PC and DSP board. program down-loading to DSP board and recording and graphic of acquired and processed data in DSP board are executed by PC. Parallel interface and buffer memory are used in communications. Data acquisition and operation are carried out in DSP board. Resultant data are transmitted to PC and output through DAC.

  • In this paper, we consider interferences from other automobile pulse radars using same frequency spectrum. In order to eliminate the interference, we propose the PN code modulation method. This method uses the cross-correlation between PN codes with different seed. The ROC performance is used for comparing the proposed detector to conventional method. And the proposed detector can decide the present or absent of targets and measure the range of the targets by using memory buffer of range gate. Especially, we use false alarm probability for all range gates. That is the false alarm if in any one range gate the false alarm occurs. From the simulation result, we can see that the proposed detector with using PN code is not influenced by interferences.

  • 최근 플래시 메모리 기반의 저장장치가 하드디스크 영역에서 광범위하게 사용되고 있다. 하지만 단점을 가지고 있는데 느린 쓰기 및 지우기 속도가 그것이다. 본 논문에서는 플래시 메모리의 쓰기 및 지우기 동작을 줄일 수 있는 플래시 메모리 기반의 저장장치를 위한 새로운 버퍼 관리 기법을 제안한다. 제안된 ABM 기법은 플래시 메모리 기반의 저장장치에서 약 30%의 성능향상을 보이고 있다.

The Efficient Merge Operation in Log Buffer-Based Flash Translation Layer for Enhanced Random Writing (임의쓰기 성능향상을 위한 로그블록 기반 FTL의 효율적인 합병연산)

  • Recently, the flash memory consistently increases the storage capacity while the price of the memory is being cheap. This makes the mass storage SSD(Solid State Drive) popular. The flash memory, however, has a lot of defects. In order that these defects should be complimented, it is needed to use the FTL(Flash Translation Layer) as a special layer. To operate restrictions of the hardware efficiently, the FTL that is essential to work plays a role of transferring from the logical sector number of file systems to the physical sector number of the flash memory. Especially, the poor performance is attributed to Erase-Before-Write among the flash memory's restrictions, and even if there are lots of studies based on the log block, a few problems still exists in order for the mass storage flash memory to be operated. If the FAST based on Log Block-Based Flash often is generated in the wide locality causing the random writing, the merge operation will be occur as the sectors is not used in the data block. In other words, the block thrashing which is not effective occurs and then, the flash memory's performance get worse. If the log-block makes the overwriting caused, the log-block is executed like a cache and this technique contributes to developing the flash memory performance improvement. This study for the improvement of the random writing demonstrates that the log block is operated like not only the cache but also the entire flash memory so that the merge operation and the erase operation are diminished as there are a distinct mapping table called as the offset mapping table for the operation. The new FTL is to be defined as the XAST(extensively-Associative Sector Translation). The XAST manages the offset mapping table with efficiency based on the spatial locality and temporal locality.

Hybrid MBE Growth of Crack-Free GaN Layers on Si (110) Substrates

  • Two main MBE growth techniques have been used: plasma-assisted MBE (PA-MBE), which utilizes a rf plasma to supply active nitrogen, and ammonia MBE, in which nitrogen is supplied by pyrolysis of NH3 on the sample surface during growth. PA-MBE is typically performed under metal-rich growth conditions, which results in the formation of gallium droplets on the sample surface and a narrow range of conditions for optimal growth. In contrast, high-quality GaN films can be grown by ammonia MBE under an excess nitrogen flux, which in principle should result in improved device uniformity due to the elimination of droplets and wider range of stable growth conditions. A drawback of ammonia MBE, on the other hand, is a serious memory effect of NH3 condensed on the cryo-panels and the vicinity of heaters, which ruins the control of critical growth stages, i.e. the native oxide desorption and the surface reconstruction, and the accurate control of V/III ratio, especially in the initial stage of seed layer growth. In this paper, we demonstrate that the reliable and reproducible growth of GaN on Si (110) substrates is successfully achieved by combining two MBE growth technologies using rf plasma and ammonia and setting a proper growth protocol. Samples were grown in a MBE system equipped with both a nitrogen rf plasma source (SVT) and an ammonia source. The ammonia gas purity was >99.9999% and further purified by using a getter filter. The custom-made injector designed to focus the ammonia flux onto the substrate was used for the gas delivery, while aluminum and gallium were provided via conventional effusion cells. The growth sequence to minimize the residual ammonia and subsequent memory effects is the following: (1) Native oxides are desorbed at $750^{\circ}C$ (Fig. (a) for [$1^-10$] and [001] azimuth) (2) 40 nm thick AlN is first grown using nitrogen rf plasma source at $900^{\circ}C$ nder the optimized condition to maintain the layer by layer growth of AlN buffer layer and slightly Al-rich condition. (Fig. (b)) (3) After switching to ammonia source, GaN growth is initiated with different V/III ratio and temperature conditions. A streaky RHEED pattern with an appearance of a weak ($2{\times}2$) reconstruction characteristic of Ga-polarity is observed all along the growth of subsequent GaN layer under optimized conditions. (Fig. (c)) The structural properties as well as dislocation densities as a function of growth conditions have been investigated using symmetrical and asymmetrical x-ray rocking curves. The electrical characteristics as a function of buffer and GaN layer growth conditions as well as the growth sequence will be also discussed. Analysis of the Involving Mechanism of Kim Eun-Sook Drama : Focused on the Audience's Predictability and the Activities of Constructing Hypotheses (김은숙 드라마 <도깨비>의 몰입기제 구축과정 분석 - 관람자 예측성과 가설 구성 활동을 중심으로 -)

  • In the entertainment industry, risk management is crucial for securing competitiveness due to the risk of investment. The competitiveness of contents is reinforced when external factors such as industrial environment and internal factors centering on involving mechanism are simultaneously provided. The involving mechanism is a form of cognitive response behavior of the audience and occurs through signal processing of the brain when watching the image contents. The signal processing of the brain related to the contents watching is mainly performed in the working memory area, and in the case of the captivating movie, the information other than the contents transmitted to the audience is blocked to generate a temporary dissociation state. A dissociation state similar to a symptom such as hypnosis or amnesia occurs when the audience's level of involving is high. On the other hand, contents information in which the audience is concentrating his attention is used intensively for constructing future thinking through an episodic buffer while the inflow of external information is relatively blocked or delayed. The spectator's future thinking configuration takes the form of a hypothesis-forming activity and is based on the predictability of the brain. When these hypothesized behaviors correspond to the problem solving simulation of story and predictability which is an evolutionary function of the brain, the audience' s brain is involved in the contents at a high level. In order for the act to be effective, the factors such as the background of the hypothesis, the subject of the hypothesis, the internal information of the person, the type and position and quantity of the hypothesis information, and the hypothesis relevance and type of information are important. Based on these factors, analysis of the Kim Eun Sook Drama 'Goblin' shows that the above elements are operated in a very organic and meaningful way.

Low-Power Cache Design by using Locality Buffer and Address Compression (지역 버퍼와 주소 압축을 통한 저전력 캐시 설계)

  • Most modern computer systems employ cache systems in order to alleviate the access time gap between processor and memory system. The power dissipated by the cache systems becomes a significant part of the total power dissipated by whole microprocessor chip. Therefore, power reduction in the cache system becomes one of the important issues. Partial tag cache is the system for the least power consumption. The main power reduction for this method is due to the use of small partial tag matching, not full tag matching. In this paper, we first analyze the previous regular partial tag cache systems and propose a new address matching mechanism by using locality buffer and address compression. In simulation results, the proposed model shows 18% power reduction in average, still providing same performance level, compared to regular cache.

Operating System level Dynamic Power Management for Robot (로봇을 위한 운영체제 수준의 동적 전력 관리)

  • This paper describes a new approach for the operating system level power management to reduce the energy consumed in the IO devices in a robot platform, which provides various functions such as navigation, multimedia application, and wireless communication. The policy proposed in the paper, which was named the Energy-Aware Job Schedule (EAJS), rearranges the jobs scattered so that the idle periods of the devices are clustered into a time period and the devices are shut down during their idle period. The EAJS selects a schedule that consumes the minimum energyamong the schedules that satisfy the buffer and time constraints. Note that the burst job execution needs a larger memory buffer and causes a longer time delay from generating the job request until to finishing it. A prototype of the EAJS is implemented on the Linux kernel that manages the robot system. The experiment results show that a maximum $44\%$ power saving on a DSP and a wireless LAN card can be obtained with the EAJS.

Boundary Surface Volume Rendering Based on Depth Buffer (깊이버퍼 기반의 경계면 볼륨렌더링)

  • This paper focuses on a boundary surface based ray casting. In general the boundary surface based ray casting is processed in two stages. The first stage finds boundary surfaces and stores them into buffers. The second stage calculates a distance from a viewpoint to the voxels of the interested area by projecting boundary surfaces on the view plane, and then starts to traverse a volume data space with the distance. Our approach differs from the general boundary surface based ray casting in processing the first stage of it. Contrast to the typical boundary surface based ray casting where all boundary surfaces of volume data are stored into buffers, they are projected on the planes aligned to the axis of volume data coordinates and these projected data are stored into 6 buffers. Such maneuver shortens time for ray casting, and reduces memory usage because it can be carried out independently from the amount of the volume data.

  • In this paper, we propose the method of hardware-design for the division operation of image frame-unit processing in mobile phone camera. Generally, there are two types of the data processing, which are the parallel and serial type. The parallel type makes it possible to process in realtime, but it needs significant hardware size due to many comparators and buffer memories. Compare the serial type with the parallel type, the hardware size of the serial type is smaller than the other because it uses only one comparator, but serial type is not able to process in realtime. To use the hardware resources efficiently, we employ the serial divider since frame-unit operation for image processing does not need realtime process. When compared with both in the same bit size and operating frequency, the hardware size of the serial divider is approximately in the ratio of 13 percentage compared with the parallel divider.
