재생 공간에 나타나는 밈(Meme)적 특성 연구 -독일의 졸페라인 탄광 지구 재생 사업을 중심으로- (A Study on the Meme Features Appear in Renewal Space -Focusing on the Renewal Project of the Zollverein Coal Mine Industrial Complex in German-)

  • The features of the cultural phenomenon, 'Hybrid Culture,' can be analyzed through the concept of 'Meme,' the cultural gene continuously evolves. The architectural meme also has an effect as the cultural symbol on a space. It can be the solution to the urban problems, lack of contextualization caused by reckless development. Therefore, this study aims to examine the characteristics of the sustainable and effective renewal space by applying the concept of Meme. Theoretical analysis, characteristics of expression, and case study are conducted to analyze the Meme features of the renewal space. Particularly, this study focuses on the Meme features appeared in the Zollverein Coal Mine Industrial Complex in German. The results obtained from this study is as written below. First, Meme renewal space is a design that can solve the contextual deficiency of architecture through the cultural renewal. Second, the true renewal space has the characteristics of meme space that organically changes as if an organism. Third, it is possible to conduct a detailed analysis on the organic characteristics according to the evolving phases-Mimesis, Memeplex, and Metameme. Fourth, the true meaning of sustainable renewal space is the Meme space encompasses the scope of urban. Lastly, the Meme space has a circulation system that each evolving phase, and new and old continuously exchange feedbacks.

  • We present a new approach to evaluate the generated texts by Large Language Models (LLMs) for meme classification. Analyzing an image with embedded texts, i.e. meme, is challenging, even for existing state-of-the-art computer vision models. By leveraging large image-to-text models, we can extract image descriptions that can be used in other tasks, such as classification. In our methodology, we first generate image captions using BLIP-2 models. Using these captions, we use GPT-4 to evaluate the relationship between the caption and the meme text. The results show that OPT6.7B provides a better rating than other LLMs, suggesting that the proposed method has a potential for meme classification.

Monpe Workpants and Their Memetic Derivations

  • Monpe, Korean women's wartime attire during the Japanese colonization period, has survived for 70 years as typical baggy workpants for rural women and emerged as retro-fashion. This paper applied a theory of "meme" to explain the monpe fashion trend in Korea. Based on literature review, empirical analyses were conducted by analyzing market and media including newspaper articles and blogs. We found that the monpe meme has evolved over time through variation, penetration, and diffusion. In terms of variation, the impression of monpe transitioned from a negative image to a positive one as a result of changes in design, functionality, and popular image. In terms of penetration, the monpe meme has spread into popular culture, again through mass media, with images of active, sexy, and attractive monpe-wearers on television and at popular occasions. Finally, the monpe meme has diffused throughout a broad range of consumers of various ages and both genders as an item of clothing for various occasions through diversified distribution channels. In this way, the development of monpe as fashionable clothing in Korea during the 2000s is itself a meme reflecting its evolution from a disgraceful colonial legacy to an item of contemporary fashion.

현대 패션 밈(meme)에 관한 사례연구 (A case study on the contemporary fashion meme)

  • This study defines the concept of the fashion meme, which has recently emerged as a fashion trend, influential fashion keyword. After analyzing the concepts and characteristics of traditional memes from prior studies, examples of fashion memes were collected from online community and social network services, while a literature study and case study analysis were conducted in parallel drawing on related articles and journals. Modern fashion memes refer to fashion-related symbols and fashion images that are spread online by word-of-mouth, together with fashion styles and items that spread as a result of being worn. Fashion memes in cyberspace are mainly spread through social network or message services, and sometimes combine text, images, videos, hashtags, and emoticons. Fashion memes are a type of collective action of the people in response to social problems in the world, and often involve humorous antics, satire, shock, and eccentricity. Shared fashion memes reflect the expression of personality expression and fun, and at the same time are used as an expression of designer and brand creativity and are integral to marketing. Fashion memes are classified into four types, based on two central axes as follows: non-commercial/commercial and anti-fashion/fashion-friendly. Unlike traditional memes, Internet-based fashion memes emphasize elements of transformation through creativity as well as imitation, which has become a persisting contemporary trend beyond temporary phenomena.

Shifting Meme Content during Information Development on the COVID-19 Pandemic in Indonesia

  • This research aims to identify and reveal the meaning of memes about COVID-19, and explain changes in meme content in regard to the information development of COVID-19 in Indonesia published by the mass media and online media. The data is sourced from memes that are shared on social media, especially WhatsApp groups in the period of January to June 2020. To reveal the meaning of memes, a semiotic analysis of Roland Barthes' model is used. Qualitative analysis is used to reveal the relationship between memes and the information development of COVID-19 in Indonesia. The results of the study show that meme content has shifted according to three stages of information development of COVID-19 in Indonesia published by the mass media and online media. When COVID-19 was not yet confirmed in Indonesia, meme content contained mostly humor that was not educative, moreover it seemed to underestimate the coronavirus. Meme content which is mostly humorous and pornographic occurred when COVID-19 was confirmed in Indonesia and during the lockdown policy. At last, as the government has begun to distribute social assistance, the meme content looks more critical. The results of this research emphasize the urgency of the mass media as a source of public information during the COVID-19 pandemic, become a reference for the community in making memes as a forum for expressing feelings and social criticism, and serve as a reference for the government to act and make the right decisions related to the pandemic that is endemic in their country.

게이미피게이션은 어떻게 학생들을 움직이는가: 학습시간 관리서비스 분석을 통한 심리적 반엔트로피와 밈에 관한 연구 (How Gamification Moves Students: A Study on Psychic Anti-entropy and Meme through Analysis of Study Time Management Services)

  • 본 연구는 국내 교육 환경에서 특별하게 등장하고 있는 학습시간 관리서비스의 개념과 그 안에서 활용되고 있는 게이미피케이션 요소들의 특성을 파악한 후, 학습시간 관리서비스가 지향하는 심리적 반엔트로피의 의미와 새로운 게이미피케이션 요소로서 밈(meme)의 역할을 제시한다. 교육용 게이미피케이션의 목표는 게임과 학습의 유사한 부분을 찾아 학습 환경에 접목시킴으로써 학습 동기를 강화하고 몰입으로 이끄는 것이다. 학습시간 관리서비스 또한 그러한 목표를 지향한다. 하지만 그것은 앱 차단과 같은 외적 반엔트로피 환경을 게임적 기술이나 게임적 사고로 연결해 외적 동기를 부여한다는 점에서 차이가 있다. 뿐만 아니라 내적 동기를 유발하기 위해 새로운 게이미피케이션 요소로서 밈을 활용한다는 점에서도 차별화된다. 특히, 학습 패턴과 관련된 밈은 학습 활동 수행에 관한 일종의 지침과 같은 것으로서, 우수한 학습 패턴을 모방하려는 내적 동기를 유발하고 심리적 반엔트로피 상태를 지속시킬 수 있는 동력이 된다. 따라서 학습시간 관리서비스안의 게이미피케이션은 게임 기반의 기술이나 게임적 사고를 활용함으로써 외적 반엔트로피 환경을 강화하고, 학습 패턴의 밈을 활용함으로써 심리적 반엔트로피 상태를 지속시키는 것이다.

  • 유전자 발현에 매우 중요한 신호역할을 하는 프로모터 영역은 여러 전사인자들이 결합하는 특정 부위들을 갖고 있다. 전사인자의 결합부위는 프로모터의 다양한 부위에 위치하며, 진화론적으로 잘 보존된 Consensus 형태의 염기서열 패턴을 띠고 있다. 본 논문은 이러한 최적의 패턴들을 탐색하기 위해 유전자 알고리즘을 기반으로 하면서, 동시에 MEME 알고리즘의 N-occurrence-per-dataset 모델의 가정과 패턴의 길이를 결정할 수 있는 Wataru 방법의 장점을 따르는 새로운 방법을 제시하고 있다. 이러한 탐색 방법은 유전체 연구자들이 임의의 DNA 염기서열 상에서 프로모터 영역을 예측하거나 특정 전사인자의 결합부위를 탐색하는데 적극 활용할 수 있다.

소비자 문화 트렌드 변화에 따른 현대 패션산업 특성 고찰 - 리처드 도킨스의 밈(meme) 이론을 중심으로 - (A Study of Contemporary Fashion Industry According as the Change of Customer's Cultural Trend - Focusing on the 'Meme' Theory of Richard Dowkins -)

  • This research is a follow-up study about analysis on the many different customer groups and their various culture trend, which intends to realize diverse values depending on the sense. The purpose of this study was to develop direction forecast for the future fashion industry through consideration about the characteristics of contemporary fashion industry by the change of different customer's culture trend. And also try to find solution to survival strategy of fashion fields able to evolve with customer. Change of the customer's cultural trend draws a shift in policy in the 21st fashion industry as follows : 1) mash-up 2) complexation through decentering and blurring 3) invisible and immaterial value oriented 4) expansion of minor small market. Moreover, this shows sociocultural meaning as follows. First is spread of flexible and horizontal relationship through collaborative consumption and collaboration. Second is concentration on floating and indeterminate chance through dismantling of various different fashion categories. Third is formation of the permanent difference by selection and focus. Last is expansion of understanding about cultural-ecology. Customer cultural trend is 'meme' of cultural gene in fashion field, so it intends to co-evolute with customer by continuous change.

싸이의 영상 뮤직비디오 '강남스타일'에 드러난 키치(Kitsch)와 밈(Meme)에 대한 탐구 (Analysis of the 'Gangnam style' Music Video through the Concepts of Kitsch and Meme)

  • 싸이의 영상뮤직비디오 '강남스타일'은 지난 2012년 7월 15일 세계 최대 동영상 사이트인 유튜브(YouTube)에 공개 된지 161일 만에 조회수 10억 건을 돌파하며, 전 세계 '강남스타일' 열풍을 일으켰다. 싸이의 '강남스타일'이 이토록 짧은 시간에 세계적인 파급을 일으킨 이유는 무엇일까? 학계에서는 이러한 유례없는 세계적 문화 현상에 대해 다양한 분석과 함께 일부 언론에서는 '키치'와 '밈' 이론을 언급하였지만, 그 구체적 검증에 대한 사례가 전무한 상태이다. 본 연구에서는 '강남스타일'에 대한 범지구적 대중의 수용에서는 '키치'를 중심으로 알아보았으며, '강남스타일'의 세계적 '확산' 과정에서는 문화복제이론인 '밈'을 통해 분석하였다. 이는 '강남스타일' 현상에 대해 문화의 모방과 전파의 관점에서 종합적이고, 심도 있는 분석을 하고자 두 이론을 차용하였으며, 이를 통해 사회문화 현상에 대한 해석적 방법을 제시할 수 있는 연구라 사료된다. 이를 위해, 문헌과 사례조사를 통해 키치와 밈을 고찰하고, 이를 바탕으로 분석 조건을 도출한 후 '강남스타일'에 드러난 세계 보편의 대중적 정서와 문화의 확산에 대한 요인에 대해 분석하고자 한다.

프로모터 영역의 전사인자 결합부위 Consensus 패턴 탐색 방법 (Search Method for Consensus Pattern of Transcription Factor Binding Sites in Promoter Region)

  • 유전자의 상위부분에 위치하면서 해당 유전자의 발현을 제어하는 신호부위 역할을 하는 프로모터 영역은 다양한 전사인자들이 결합하는 특정 신호부위들을 갖고 있다. 이러한 전사인자 결합부위들은 프로모터 영역 내의 매우 다양한 위치에 자리잡고 있으며, 진화론적으로 잘 보존된 Consensus 형태의 염기서열 패턴을 띠고 있다. 본 논문은 이러한 Consensus 패턴 탐색에 사용되는 Wataru 방법, EM 알고리즘, MEME 알고리즘, 유전자 알고리즘 및 Phylogenetic Footprinting 기법 등에 대해 소개하고, 향후 연구방향에 대한 전망을 제시하고자 한다.
