effectiveness of the PAM graphite-electrode technology for the treatment of many types of low-level radioactive waste including : combustible material, solidified resins in cement, inorganic materials, steel, glass, and solidified boric acid cement. The objectives of PAM-200 evaluation were to verify that 1) the facility meets air emission regulations, 2) the facility can be safely operated when processing hazardous and radioactive materials and 3) satisfactory final waste forms can be produced. Results, derived from KAERI's(Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute) analyses for samples of vitrified product, scrubbing solution and offgas collected during test period, show that PAM-200 can treat radioactive wastes as well as hazardous wastes with toxic constituents and radionuclides contained in the offgas exiting from the stack to the environment controlled to be far lower than the limit regulated by air conservation law and atomic law.
The microwave of 2450 MHz, generated by a household cooking oven, was evaluated for its applicability to melt various rehydrated media and to remove dissolved oxygen from tubed media for anaerobic culture. The effect on the sterilization of E. coli in selective media was also evaluated. The following results were obtained. 10 The microwave oven was useful in saving time for melting media and in eliminating heat and combustion gas from the laboratory, which were inevitable by-products in the conventional flame method. 2) Dissolved oxygen could be removed without boiling over by exposing the tubes of anaerobic culture medium after putting them in a wire basket in a beaker with water. 30 The count of E. coli during the melting of MacConkey and EMB agar were similar to those treated with open flame. The microwave treatment was not considered a possible mean to replace autoclaving even in these selective media.
Bi-2212 HTS tube was fabricated by centrifugal forming process(CFP). As a variation of melt casting process(MCP) or centrifugal casting technique, the centrifugal forming process is a flexible method for manufacturing Bi-2212 bulk tubes and has been optimized to achieve smooth surface and uniform thickness. At this process, the slurry was prepared in the mixing ratio of 10:1 between Bi-2212 powder and binder and initially charged into the rotating mold under the speed of 300~450 rpm Heat-treatment was performed at the temperature ranges of 860 ~ $890^{\circ}C$ in air for partial melting. The HTS tube fabricated by centrifugal forming process at $890^{\circ}C$ under the rotating speed of 450 rpm was highly densified and the plate-like grains with more than 20$\mu$m were well oriented along the rotating axis. The measured Tc and Jc at 10K were around 85K and 3,000A/cm2 respectively.
Alumino-borosilicate glasses containing nano-sized CuCl crystals for nonlinear optical application were prepared by the melting and precipitation process, and structural and optical properties were investigated by using XRD, TEM, SAXS, and optical spectroscopy. the average radius of the precipitated CuCl particles was about 2 nm. The blue shift of Z3 resonance peak with decreasing the precipitated CuCl particles size was found and the radius increased with decreasing the glass transition temperature of the matrix glass and with increasing the temperature and duration time of the precipitation heat treatment.
Proteolytic enzymes and ginger extract were effective on tenderising M. pectoralis profundus, resulting in higher collagen solubility, a decrease of melting denaturation temperature and WBSF compared with the control. Comparing all treatments, bromelain treatment showed to be higher for collagen solubility than other treatments, but no significant differences in onset and melting denaturation temperature of intramuscular connective tissue were found. These corresponded to WBSF results. The present study indicates that ginger extract might be effectively able to be utilised in pilot level as better alternatives to bromelain and papain for tenderisation of tough meat, such as cull cow and beef cuts with many collagen.
Low melting metals are difficult to weld because it is vaporized. But epoxy resin make bonding possible using low melting material and dismissal materials. This study is to improve the bonding strength of epoxy and substrate by mechanical and electrochemical methods. In case of mechanical work, bonding strength is 17.6MPa and in case of pre-work, bonding strength is 15.3MPa. When anodizing and mechanical work is applied, bonding strength is 25.3Mpa is increased 165%. When anodizing is applied, bonding strength is 27.6Mpa.
A well oriented Bi2212 superconductor thick films were fabricated by screen printing with a Cu-free Bi-Sr-Ca-O mixture powder on a copper plate and heat-treating at 820-88$0^{\circ}C$ for several minute in air. During the heat-treatment, the printing layer partially melted by reaction between the Cu-free precursor and CuO of the oxidizing copper plate. In the partial melting state, it is believed that the solid phase is Bi-free phase and Cu-rich phase and the composition of the liquid is around Bi : Sr : Ca : Cu = 2 : 2 : 0 : 1. Following the partial melting, the Bi2212 superconducting phase is formed at Bi-free phase/liquid interface by nucleation and grows. With decreasing the Bi composition in the precursor powder, the critical temperature(T$_{c}$) of the fabricated Bi2212 thick film increased to about 79 K.K.
Life cycle assessment (LCA) on total sewage sludge treatment system from thickening to incineration and melting was performed for estimating global environmental impact as $CO_2$. In general, the life cycles of actual treatment facilities consist of construction, operation and dismantlement. In this study, the amount of $CO_2$ produced from both whole and each life cycle step of currently used unit sludge treatment processes were calculated by inventory analysis. In addition, in the all processes investigated in this study, individual $CO_2$ production unit (CPU), i.e. total produced $CO_2$ by treating a unit weight of sludge was also calculated. By using the CPU matrix of the unit processes, it was possible to simulate the $CO_2$ production for any type of complex-system as well as to trace a dominant cause of $CO_2$ production in each process. Four selected alternatives examined here, each involve the same disposal way but differ substantially in the $CO_2$ exhaust.
Alkylketene dimer was known as a cellulose reactive or alkaline size because it does not require to fix to the fiber as do the traditional rosin sizes. A proposed sizing mechanism of AKD was the formation of P -ketoester bond between AKD and cellulose which provides the permanent attachment and the orientation of the hydrophobic alkylchains outward. However, some questions about the reaction had arisen and thus, the sizing mechanism of AKD has been a subject of controversy for several decades. The major concern of the controversy is that AKD is really reactive with cellulose or not in the papermaking conditions. In this study, reaction between AKD and pulp fiber was investigated, in order to find out whether AKD forms P-ketoester with pulp fiber during aging under no catalyzed neutral condition with obvious spectroscopic evidence. In addition, effect of aging treatment on the sizing development was studied. It has been disclosed that, in absence of water, AKD reacted with cellulose to form P -ketoester linkage under no catalyzed neutral condition, while, in presence of water, most of AKD was hydrolyzed to a dialkyl ketone or P -ketoacid. In addition, during the aging treatment of AKD-sized paper, its typical IR spectra bands gradually were reduced, completely disappeared after 6hr aging, and formed new absorption bands at 1707cm-' and shoulder peak at 1700cm-' which refer to the typical dialkylketone absorption bands. Therefore, the formation of P -ketoester between AKD and pulp fiber is impossible in the practical papermaking process. It could be suggested that the sizing development of AKD-sized paper is obtained by next two mechanism: 1) formation of a thin-layer of AKD on the fiber surface through melting and spreading of AKD emulsion particles by heat and 2) the hydrolysis of AKD to dialkyl ketone which has higher melting point, during drying and storage of AKD sized papers.
