In order to investigate electrochemical behavior and biocompatibility of Co-Cr dental alloy by electrochemical corrosion test and MTT assay, the xCo-25Cr-yW-zNi alloys were used in this study. Samples of Co-Cr-W-Ni alloys were manufactured using arc melting furnace. The microstructure of the alloys was examined by optical microscopy (OM), Field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS), X-ray diffraction (XRD), MTT assay, and corrosion test. Corrosion resistance increased slightly as cobalt (Co) content increased. And bioactivity was concerned with nickel (Ni) and tungsten (W). Biocompatibility of Co-Cr alloy depended on Ni and W contents.
Branched polypropylenes (PP) with long chain branch were prepared by solid state reaction with three different branching agent of 0.3 wt% content. The chemical structures, non-isothermal crystallization behavior and complex viscosity of the branched PP were investigated by FTIR, DSC, optical microscope, and dynamic rheological measurement. The chemical structure of the branched PP was confirmed by the existence of =C-H stretching peak of the branching agent at 3100 $cm^{-1}$. There was no distinct change in melting temperature in case of PP-D-0-3 and PP-F-0-3, but PP-H-0-3 indicated a decrease in melting temperature. The decrease in melting temperature was interpreted by the fact that the degradation reaction of PP was more dominant than branched reaction, and confirmed by a decrease in complex viscosity. The non-isothermal crystallization behavior of the branched PP was analyzed using by Avrami equation. The Avrami exponent of PP was 3, and the values of the branched PP with DVB and FS were below 3. The activation energy of PP calculated by Kissinger method was 25 kJ/mol, and there were no big difference in activation energies of the branched PPs compared to PP.

This study was carried out to investigate the effect of hydrocolloids on the changes in physical properties of a model ice cream. The model ice cream contained water, sugar, skin milk powder, com oil, and 4 different hydrocolloid stabilizers (gelatin, pectin, hydroxyethylstarch, locust bean gum), was manufactured in a batch type freezer. The following physical characteristics of ice cream were examined: flow behavior, overrun, air cell size, ice crystal size, and melt resistance. With regard to flow behavior, all of aged mixes had a lower apparent viscosity relative to the mix before aging, and ice cream mix containing locust bean gum had the highest viscosity. Air cell size was observed to range from 20 to $38\;{\mu}m$, and ice cream with locust bean gum showed the largest size. There was an inverse correlation between overrun and air cell size. The ice crystal sizes of all samples ranged from 25 to $35\;{\mu}m$. Ice cream with added pectin contained the smallest ice crystal size, which was significantly difference from other stabilizers (p<0.05), and resulted in superior melt resistance with increased melting time compared to other samples.
Antistatic property and crystallization behavior of antistatic poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET) were studied by feeding antistatic agents into polycondensation reactor. Glass transition and melting temperature of antistatic PET were decreased by poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) component of antistatic agent. The crystallization rate of antistatic PET was inhibited by decreasing crystallization temperature. Thermal properties and crystallization behavior was affected POAG content of antistatic agent rather than sodium alkylsulfonate of it. The main antistatic component of antistatic agent was POAG. The main role of sodium alkylsulfonate was increasing melt viscosity of antistatic poly(ethylene terephalate) polymer.
Sintering behavior of nanostructured(NS) W-Cu powders prepared by mechanical alloying (MA) was investigated as a function of sintering temperature. MA NS W-2owt%Cu and W-3owt%Cu composite powders with the crystal size of 20-30 nm were annealed at 90$0^{\circ}C$, and thermal characteristics of those powders were investigated by DSC. Sintering behavior of MA NS W-Cu composite powders was investigated during the solid-state sintering and the Cu-liquid phase sintering. The new nanosintering phenonenon of MA W-Cu powders at solid-state sintering temperature was suggested to explain the W-grain growth in the inside of MA powders. The sintering densification of MA NS W-Cu powders was enhanced at Cu melting temperature by arrangement of MA powders, i.e., the first rearrangement of MA powders was occurred, and then the rearrangement of W-grains in the sintered parts was also took place during liquid-phase sintering, i.e., the second rearrangement was happened. Due to the double rearrangement process of MA NS W-Cu powders, the high sintered density with more than 96%o was obtained and the fine and high homogeneous state of W and Cu phases was achieved by sintering at 1200 $^{\circ}C$.
Iron containing a high amount of chromium is known to be inferior to ductility due to ${\sigma}$ phase formation so that it is generally difficult to apply the plastic deformation process although the alloy possesses a superior characteristics of an excellent corrosion resistance. In this study, Fe-50mass%Cr alloy was melted using high purity powder and the deformation behavior has been investigated by cold rolling and tensile test. The tensile test yielded that the alloy revealed a serration at an early stage of tensile deformation and then the serrated flow vanished to change to a normal work hardening flow at the later stage. The former was governed by twin formation process, the latter by dislocation multiplication one, bringing about a high ductility of 20% or over. The reduction ratio in cold rolling was attained as high as 90%, thus the high corrosion-resistant alloy is able to possess a high ductility.
Poly (N-vinylpyrrolidone) (PVP) groups were grafted onto a poly(3-hydroxybutyrate-co-3-hydroryvalerate) (PHBV) backbone in order to modify its properties and synthesize a novel biocompatible copolymer. The crystallization behavior of PHBV and grafted PHBV was investigated by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and polarized optical microscopy (POM). During the cooling-induced crystallization process, the crystallization temperature and the crystallization rate of the grafted PHBV decreased with increasing PVP weight fraction. On the heating scans of all grafted PHBV samples, a new crystallization exothermic peak appeared at almost the same temperature, suggesting the operation of a recrystallization process, while the melting temperature ($T_m$) and the apparent enthalpy of fusion (${\Delta}H_f$) were not affected by graft modification. During the isothermal crystallization process at the same temperature, the presence of side PVP groups decreased the spherulitic growth rate and the spherulitic band spacing with increasing PVP weight fraction in samples.

Reactor pressure vessel (RPV) under severe accident conditions accompanied by core melting is exposed to direct high-temperature thermal loads. Understanding the creep behavior of the material is one of the most important factors for evaluating the structural integrity at these conditions. While damage evaluation studies have been conducted on critical structures of nuclear power plants through finite element (FE) analyses considering creep behavior, for accurate creep damage evaluation, constitutive equations considered in the FE analyses may have different results depending on the time hardening and strain hardening models as well as the tertiary creep consideration. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the creep damage under severe accident conditions by using FE method for a representative domestic RPV material, SA508 Gr.3. The effect of material hardening models and constitutive equations which are the main variables were also investigated.
The electrochemical reaction between lead borate glass frit doped with Sn metal filler and Ni-Cr wire of a J-type resistor during a term of Joule heating is investigated. The fusing behavior in which the Ni-Cr wire is melted is not observed for the control group but measured for the Sn-doped specimen under 30 V and 500 mA. The Sn-doped lead borate glass frit shows a fusing property compared with other metal-doped specimens. Meanwhile, the redox reaction significantly contributes to the fusing behavior due to the release of free electrons of the metal toward the glass. The electrons derived from the glass, which used Joule heat to reach the melting point of Ni-Cr wire, increase with increasing corrosion rate at interface of metal/glass. Finally, the confidence interval is 95 ± 1.959 %, and the adjusted regression coefficient, R in the optimal linear graph, is 0.93, reflecting 93% of the data and providing great potential for fusible resistor applications.

Urea-SCR technology is known as one of the powerful NOx reduction systems for vehicles as well as stationary applications. For its consistent and reliable operation in vehicle applications, however, the freezing and melting of the urea solution in cold environments have to be resolved. In this study, therefore, a numerical study of three-dimensional unsteady problems was analyzed to understand the urea freezing and heating phenomena and heat transfer characteristics in terms of urea liquid volume fraction, temperature profiles, and phase change behavior in urea solutions with time by using the commercial software Fluent 6.3. As a result, it was found that the freezing phenomenon proceeds with a phase change from the tank wall to the center, whereas the melting phenomenon occurs faster in the upper part of the storage tank by natural convection and in the adjacent part of the coolant pipe than in other parts. Furthermore, approximately 190 s were required to obtain 1L of urea solution using a 4-coiled coolant heater under conditions of $70^{\circ}C$ and 200 L/h.
