A study on wireless network mac cap considering efficiency of energy in ad-hoc network

  • The release of IEEE 802.15.4 PHY-MAC standard represents a milestone in developing of commercial wireless sensor network pursuing low power and low cost. In this paper, IEEE 802.15.4 Medium Access Control (MAC) protocol was analysed at the point of power consumption. This analysis measured the amount of the rest of power after transmitting data with beacon enabled mode and the power consumption of each node in the time period. ns-2 simulation is used to verify the analysis.

Slotted CDMA_ALOHA Protocol with Hybrid ARQ in Wireless Communication Network

  • In this paper, a slotted CDMA_ALOHA protocol with hybrid ARQ is proposed for the wireless CDMA communication networks. The proposed protocol combines the characteristics of the slotted ALOHA, CDMA, and the hybrid ARQ, in order to increase the throughput by reducing the number of retransmissions when the channel experiences heavy traffic. The main feature of the proposed protocol is the utilization of the forward error correction capability to correct errors that appear after the CDMA dispreading of the packets. The base station does not need to ask so often for retransmission of erroneous packets. It will request for retransmission only when the FEC capability is exceeded. The performance of the proposed protocol is analyzed by considering the packet collision probability as well as the bit error probability. The numerical results show that the system throughput is closely related to the bit error rate of the wireless link and the FEC coding rate.

Cross-Layer Design for Mobile Internet Services in Cellular Communications Systems

  • Recently, cross-layer design approach has been greatly attracting researchers' attention as an alternative for improving the performance of wireless data networks. The main reason why cross-layer approaches are particularly well suited for wireless networks is that there exists direct coupling between physical layer and upper layers. Therefore, with cross-layer approach, the protocol designers try to exploit the interaction between layers and promote adaptability at all layers, based on information exchange between layers. In this article we focus on the cross-layer engineering for high data-rate mobile Internet services through cellular networks. First, the general considerations in cross-layer engineering are outlined. Then, we discuss the common approach in literatures, which mainly deals with adaptability in physical and medium access control layer. Finally, we show that the cross-layer engineering taking account of all layers is more adequate for the mobile Internet services cellular network.

  • 본 연구는 멀티미디어 트래픽의 하나인 VBR(Variable Bit Rate) 서비스를 위한 무선 단말기의 효율적인 채널 사용을 위한 무선 ATM MAC(Medium Access Control) 프로토콜에 관한 연구이다. 현재 유선망에서는 멀티미디어 서비스를 위하여 ATM 기술을 사용하고 있기 때문에 유무선망의 통합을 위한 ATM 무선망의 설계가 대두되고 있다. 이를 위해서는 무선망이 가지는 대역폭의 한계와 링크의 높은 에러율을 극복하기 위해서 효율적인 MAC 알고리즘 개발이 필요하다. 본 논문에서는 무선 ATM망에서 VBR 트래픽 소스를 갖는 단말기의 QoS를 보장하고 채널 사용의 효율을 높이기 위하여 신경망을 이용한 Neural DSA(Dynamic Slot Assignment) 알고리즘을 제안하고 시뮬레이션을 통해 기존에 제안된 MAC 알고리즘과 성능 비교 분석을 통해 그 우수성을 확인하였다.

  • The next generation of wireless communication seems to be multimedia communications based on ATM and requires the efficient MAC(Medium Access Control) protocol to support multimedia traffic with the various characteristics of QoS(Quality of Service). A Proposed D-PRMA++ MAC protocol is operated dynamically by the retransmission probability and the number of reservation channel on the side of MS(Mobile Station) Also, On the side of BS(Base Station) it analyzes the parameters receive d from all MS and allocates the slots by priority in order to guarantee QoS.

  • WATM(Wireless ATM)에서의 매체접근제어(Medium Access Control)는 QoS를 보장하기 위해 다양한 방식들이 제안되어 왔다. 현재까지 제안되어 온 매체접근제어 방식들은 시분할 다중화 방식 (TDMA)과 예약경쟁방식을 주로 사용하고 있다. 이때 활용되는 기능에는 QoS를 보장하기 위해 통계적 다중화, 스케쥴링 또는 예약 방식 등이 있는데 경쟁 방식은 아직까지 slotted-ALOHA를 그대로 사용하고 있다. Slotted-ALOHA방식의 단점을 개선하기 위하여 통계적 방식으로 경쟁을 제어하거나 물리적 방식으로 경쟁을 분리시켜 그 효율을 향상 시켜왔으나 우선 순위가 같은 이동국들이 많을 경우에는 해결할 방법이 없었다. 이러한 문제점들은 기지국 중심의 경쟁방식이라는 점이 그 문제를 해결하는데 있어서의 걸림돌이다. 본 논문에서는 이미 슬롯을 할당받은 동료 이동국에게 예약요청을 피기백킹(piggybacking)함으로써 신속하게 슬롯을 할당을 받을 수 있는 분산 경쟁방식을 제안한다.

  • In this paper, high-speed Hybrid MAC (Medium Access Control layer) implementation suitable for smart grid applications is researched. MB-OFDM (Multi-Band Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing) is considered for high-speed communication method in smart grid application. In this paper, the MAC adopts the distributed network managing method. Also, the MB-OFDM merit of high-speed transfer rate of up to 480Mbps must be supported. Hence, this paper presents an efficient hardware-software integration (co-design) method in order to realize a high- speed transmission, and a realizing method of distribution network. Finally, MAC performance and reliability based on MB-OFDM PHY (PHYsical layer) are confirmed through simulation and emulation.

  • In this paper, we evaluate the throughput and delay performance of a wireless Local Area Network(WLAN) employing the OFDM-based IEEE 802.lla Medium Access Control(MAC) protocol by compute. simulations under wireless indoor. channel. Packet Error Rate(PER) is also investigated for the various Eb/No. It is shown that, with soft-decision Viterbi decoder, throughput and delay performance are close to those of error-free channel at Eb/No above 8dB and PER is about 2${\times}$10$\^$-5/ at Eb/No=10dB.

A Metro WDM Star Network with a Hybrid MAC Protocol Based on an Arrayed Waveguide Grating

  • In this paper, we introduce a reliable, scalable, and cost-effective switchless wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) network based on a quality-of-service supporting reservation-based medium access control (MAC) protocol. The protocol not only provides both packet and circuit switching but also supports multicasting. The network efficiency is significantly increased by spatially reusing wavelengths and exploiting multiple free spectral ranges (FSRs) of arrayed waveguide grating (AWG) employed in the architecture. We have demonstrated the feasibility of this architecture by simulating in $Optsim^{TM}$.

노인 보행환경 평가항목 신뢰도 분석연구 (Reliability Analysis on the Assessment Indicators for Senior Walking Environment)

  • Developing reliable measures of the environment is important to increase our understanding of the environmental effects on walking among seniors. As a preliminary study for developing an instrument for measuring walkability of seniors' environment, the purpose of this study are to identify important assessment indicators associated with seniors' walking and to test their reliability using inter-rater and intra-rater reliability methods. A set of assessment indicators was identified through literature review, and field studies by trained raters were conducted in three senior centers located in Seongnam area in order to test reliability of the audit tool. The results indicated high percent agreement for most indicators and overall 91.6% and 86.1% of items assessed had good or medium inter-rater and intra-rater reliability, respectively. The reliable assessment indicators would provide reliable data for use in community-based audits of built environment in relation to walking among older adults. The findings showed that the indicators of aesthetics had lower reliability compare to safety, convenience, and access. Rater training with various images would improve rater agreement while reduce rater bias.
