  • Acne vulgaris is a common inflammatory skin disease of the pilose-baceous unit. It appears as lesions consisting of comedones, papules, pustules, and nodules of varying shapes and severity. In general, the first-line treatment for acne vulgaris includes topical and oral medication. Recently, various physical modalities have also been investigated. The use of laser therapy is steadily increasing because of its fewer side effects, short procedure time, and rapid results. In particular, laser therapy assisted with carbon suspension application is effective for acne vulgaris but may sometimes result in discomfort due to odor and dust formation during the procedure. Herein, we report that acne vulgaris and enlarged facial pores can be safely and effectively treated with laser therapy assisted with diamond particle suspension and gold microparticle application, which can address the discomfort caused by the carbon suspension application.

In oriental medicine, He-Ne laser has been used to laser acupuncture and laser oriental physical treatment. In clinic, He-Ne laser have been used to care several parts like as facial palsy, facial spasm, trigeminal neuropathy, rhinitis and tinnitus. Recently, there is argument that He-Ne laser therapy is suitable to medical insurance. Conclusions : Laser therapy in oriental medicine is widespread and We can apply He-Ne laser to facial palsy, facial spasm, trigeminal neuropathy, rhinitis, tinnitus by using laser acupuncture or laser oriental physical treatment. Till now the whole mechanisms are not fully understood, so we hope to study these mechanisms actively and make suitable to medical insurance device in the near future.

  • Femtosecond laser induced shock generation in water and vitreous humor of enucleated porcine eyeball was investigated. When focusing the femtosecond laser into the liquid mediums, the acoustic waves with a frequency of about 15.6kHz could be observed by using wide-band microphone. The amplitude of the acoustic signals from water has attained a maximum under a laser power of about 5mW. Further increment of the power results in a decrement of the acoustic signals due to nonlinear optical process including filamentation of laser beam. We have further investigated the effect of femtosecond laser induced acoustic waves by applying the laser pulse into enucleated porcine eyeball. The comparative studies on both healthy and diseased eyeballs led us propose that the femtosecond laser pulses could be utilized as a novel tools for treatment of partially detached retina layers from their choroid structures.

  • We discuss the simple concepts of laser physics, absorption of laser radiation by tissue and current application in medical and physical therapy field. The continuing development in the field of laser technology has encouraged collaboration between clinician and physicist. This can be reached through more. exactly controlled and regulated laser systems for human. In medicine, surgery and physical therapy a laser should be used when it can be shown clearly established techniques. The purpose of this article is to provide the connection between pure laser physics and the other clinical application.

We treated patients with telangiectasia by laser therapy and experimented it's efficacy and studied the means of clinical application in Korean medicine. We report the capabilities of application of laser therapy, based on Korean medical theories by using resemblance between laser therapy with kyung-rak(經絡) control technique in the line that connects with the past.

  • Currently dental laser is used at a variety of dental treatment and many favorable clinical case reports are presented. We performed this study for the presentation of the validity of dental laser which are available and supportable in the oral and maxillofacial surgery. From October, 1998 to March, 1999, dental laser was used in 70 cases. Male patients were 38, female 32. The age ranged from 5 to 77, with a mean of 45.4. Indicated cases were 18 chronic periodontitis, 11 infections, 6 atypical pain, malignant or benign tumor, precancerous lesion, abnormal frenum, TMJ disorder, mucocele, and so forth. $CO_2$ laser(Sharplan 15F, Sharplan Co.) was used in 40 cases, Ho-YAG laser(Duopulse 2000, Excel Co.) 11, Nd-YAG(Duopulse 2000, Excel Co.) 18. We present and discuss about the objectiveness, availability, and future application of laser with case reports.

  • Low-power laser(LPL) delivers a small amount of energy without elevation of tissue temperature. LPL has been reported to have biostimulation effects including anti-inflammatory, analgesic, regenerative, immunocorrective, and vasodilative effects. However, the effect of LPL on hair growth has rarely been studied. We investigated the effect of LPL on hair growth in the mouse. After depilation of back skin of mice, we classified the mice into 4 groups: control, laser irradiated group, $MoandMore^{(R)}$ applied group, and Spella $707^{(R)}$ applied group. Laser irradiation or application of these drugs were performed on the back skin of the mice for 30 days. The results are summarized as follows. Hair growth of control was first observed at 13 days after depilation, and complete hair regrowth was observed at 25 days. Hair growth of both laser irradiation group and $MoandMore^{(R)}$ applied group was first observed at 9 days after depilation, and complete hair regrowth was observed at 20 days. Hair growth of Spella $707^{(R)}$ applied group was firstly observed at the 9 days after depilation, and complete hair regrowth was observed at the 15 days. Hair growth started at the irradiation site in the laser irradiation group, but it started at the random sites in other groups. In conclusion LPL irradiation have a stimulating effect on the hair growth in the mouse.

  • Low-level laser therapy or photobiomodulation (LLLT/PBM) therapy has been widely applied to enhance and accelerate the recovery of oral mucositis. This study investigates the documented effect of LLLT on oral mucositis caused by chemotherapy. This review appraises 6 animal studies and 12 clinical studies published in the Pubmed database during the past 10 years, related to the application of LLLT for the treatment of mucositis. Despite varied parameters and diverse conditions, the assessed articles indicate that application of LLLT on oral mucositis using near-infrared wavelengths is prophylactic, reduces pain, and enables a rapid recovery. Various combined treatments were also identified among the published papers, which further establishes the efficacy of LLLT as a viable treatment.
