Netflix in Indonesia: Influential Factors on Customer Engagement among Millennials' Subscribers

  • Purpose: This study is to explore how Netflix Customers' Engagement was influenced by Instagram Content, Perceived Price, Exclusivity, and Motivation in the context of Media Streaming and the role of Willingness to Subscribe as the mediating variable. This study underlines millennial's willingness to engage and the form of engagement. Research design, data, and methodology: The data for this research were collected from 100 Netflix's Millennials subscribers who follow @netflixid Instagram. All the results were analyzed and verified using SEM-PLS. Results: Research findings indicated that Willingness to Subscribe, Exclusivity, Motivation, and Instagram Content positively influenced Customer Engagement among Netflix millennials' subscribers. In contrast, Perceived Price had a negative effect on Customer Engagement. Conclusions: As a consequence, the exclusivity that Netflix offers to its audience by a recommendation algorithm has been proven to increase the engagement. This study also disclosed that the most definite form of positive engagement shown by Netflix millennials' subscribers is a behavioral aspect, where they positively recommend Netflix (word of mouth). The study findings can be a reference for the media streaming industry in their efforts to strengthen the engagement with their customers, especially the millennials, and provide knowledge about consumer behavior in digital technology.

  • This study aims to utilize big data contents of news and social media for developing a corporate strategy of multinational enterprises and their global decision-making through the data mining technique, especially text mining. In this paper, the data of 2 news media (BBC and CNN) and 2 social media (Facebook and Twitter) were collected for the three global leading Korean companies (Samsung, Hyundai Motor Company, and LG) from April, 2018 to April, 2019. The findings of this paper have shown that traditional news media and also modern social media have become devastating tools to extract global trends or phenomena for businesses. Moreover, this presents that a company can adopt a two-track strategy through two different types of media by deriving the key issues or trends from news media channels and also grasping consumers' sentiments, preference or issues of interest such as battery or design from social media. In addition, analyzing the texts of those media and understanding the association rules greatly contribute to the comparison between two different types of media channels to see the difference. Lastly, this provides meaningful and valuable data empowered insights to find a future direction comprehensively and develop a global strategy for sustainability of business.

Estimated Environmental Distribution of Benzoic Acid using EQC Model (EQC모델을 이용한 Benzoic acid의 환경분포 예측)

  • Benzoic acid is produced about 700 tons/year in Korea as of 1998 survey. Most is used as a stabilizer in the processes of synthesis of pharmaceuticals and dyes. It is also used for ingradient of paint, disinfections, and antifungals. Due to the antioxidant activity of benzoic acid, the chemical is also used as food preservatives. Although the chemical is widely used in Korea, exposure levels in air, water, soil or sediment have not been monitored or estimated so that risk evaluation of benzoic acid was not possible. In this study, distribution of the chemical among environmental media was estimated using EQC model based on the chemical-physical properties. In Level I and II of which the chemical are hypothesized in equilibrium and no transfer through the media, more than 93% of benzoic acid are estimated to be distributed in water. However, in Level III of which non-equilibrium and intermedia transfer could be occurred, the chemical is estimated to distributed to soil, 64% and water,35% as of total amount.

  • This paper presents the operation technology and the remote monitoring system of distribution pole transformer. Especially, this system uses CDMA wireless data communication network as media which is serviced on a national scale. It has four major components such as sensor for measuring the secondary voltage and currents of distribution transformer, CDMA wireless modem for data modulating/demodulating, communication media for sending/receiving of data, and PC server for monitoring the results of sensing or computing information. This paper also describes the configuration of each component's functions with its development process.

Energy Efficient IDS Node Distribution Algorithm using Minimum Spanning Tree in MANETs

  • In mobile ad hoc networks(MANETs), all the nodes in a network have limited resources. Therefore, communication topology which has long lifetime is suitable for nodes in MANETs. And MANETs are exposed to various threats because of a new node which can join the network at any time. There are various researches on security problems in MANETs and many researches have tried to make efficient schemes for reducing network power consumption. Power consumption is necessary to secure networks, however too much power consumption can be critical to network lifetime. This paper focuses on energy efficient monitoring node distribution for enhancing network lifetime in MANETs. Since MANETs cannot use centralized infrastructure such as security systems of wired networks, we propose an efficient IDS node distribution scheme using minimum spanning tree (MST) method to cover all the nodes in a network and enhance the network lifetime. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm has better performance in comparison with the existing algorithms.

  • Recently convergence of IT in logistics system as a typical application RFID/NFC technology is being used, such as, according to the distribution of the flow is generated by a lot of big data. Study on the Natural Convection Heat Transfer Characteristics in the Air Duct

  • Temperature distribution measurements in the mockup apparatus of reactor vessel were performed to determine the effective thermal conductivity of porous media with different geometry and to obtain the experimental data for the heat transfer processes by natural convection occurring in the air duct. The temperature distributions at four separated sections with different arrangements of porous media have different slopes according to the geometrical configuration. From the measured temperature distribution, effective thermal conductivity have been derived using the least square fitting method. The test at air duct was performed to the high heat removal at 3.4kW/$m^2$ by the natural convection from the outer wall to the air. And also the temperature distributions in the air duct agree well with the 1/7th power-law turbulent temperature distribution. The obtained heat transfer data have been compared with the Shin's and Sieger's correlations.

A Study on the Minimum Fluidization Velocity and Expansion of Various Media (여과재(濾過材)의 종류(種類)에 따른 최소유동상(最小流動狀) 속도(速度) 및 팽창(膨脹)에 관한 연구(硏究))

  • Backwashing is one of the most important processes in water treatment. Several models have been utilized to predict minimum fluidization velocity and expansion of media. However, it is not unusual that the actual bahavior of media dose not agree well with the prediction. This study has investigated the applicability of models in predicting the minimum fluidization velocity of sand media. However even the better model has predicted minimum fluidization velocity 1.1 to 1.8 times higher than actual fluidization velocity. The expansion rate of sand media was inspected. It is found that the actual expansion rate was greater than the predicted. In this study condition, use of $d_{10}$ instead of $d_{60}$ was better to predict the expansion of media. On the contrary to the sand media, the actual expansion of anthracite media was less than that predicted. Sometimes it is reported that the dual media has been overflown during backwashing and mixed severely at the interface. It is because the grain size distribution of anthracite has not been selected properly. The numerical values for media expansion found in this study could be referred as the useful data in operating and/or designing filter media.

Removing Out - Of - Distribution Samples on Classification Task

  • Out - of - distribution (OOD) samples are frequently encountered when deploying a classification model in plenty of real-world machine learning-based applications. Those samples are normally sampling far away from the training distribution, but many classifiers still assign them high reliability to belong to one of the training categories. In this study, we address the problem of removing OOD examples by estimating marginal density estimation using variational autoencoder (VAE). We also investigate other proper methods, such as temperature scaling, Gaussian discrimination analysis, and label smoothing. We use Chonnam National University (CNU) weeds dataset as the in - distribution dataset and CIFAR-10, CalTeach as the OOD datasets. Quantitative results show that the proposed framework can reject the OOD test samples with a suitable threshold.

  • American media market produces and consumes video contents the most in the world. Recently, Korean media contents appeals more than ever to Americans who consume them through online streaming service. This phenomenon reveals a green light which shows a need to seek for new methods in concentrated export area of Korean broadcasting market. To revitalize the exportation in this market, more differentiated strategies of exportation are needed. Therefore, in this study, we find out the activation plans to increase the exportation in American market. Through secondary data analyses with articles, home pages of each Korea TV station and depth interviews of executives of exportation of Korean broadcasting company.
