  • We analyzed the mechanism of EM emission in telecommunication system and extracted the dominant parameter in EMC design. The I/O cable, ventilation hole and shield design of chassis are important EMC design Issues in telecommunication systems. Because telecommunication systems have much more I/O cables than other electronic products, EMC design of I/O cable is very important in telecommunication systems. Therefore by the method of experimentation and simulation, EM coupling mechanism of I/O cable was analyzed and the design rule for low emission was extracted. On the base of these EMC design rules, EMC design of telecommunication system was executed without complex redesign or debug. The result obtained by these methods was shown in this paper.

  • Non-explosive shockless holding and release mechanism for a nano class small satellite application has been proposed and investigated. The great advantages of the mechanism are a much lower shock level and larger constraint force than the conventional mechanism using pyro and the heating wire cutting mechanism which has been generally applied to the cube satellite program. To investigate the effectiveness of the mechanism design, EM mechanism was developed and tested to verify the basic function of the mechanism. The test results indicate that the proposed mechanism is well functioning as the mechanism design intends.

  • The main objective of this study is to develop a gripper mechanixm that can be employed for assembly and removal tasks of a nozzle-dam of steam genetator in the process of the nuclear reactor maintenances. Brief description of the open-close thpe gripper mechanism, its position analysis, and its kinematic analysis are given. The optimal design of the gripper mechanism with and without slipping on its two gipping surfaces is considered. As an optimal design index, the ratio of the actuator force of prismatic cylinder to gripping load is proposed. Then, based on this index the oiptimal design is carried out to identify values of optimal design parameters for the gripper dechanism.

  • A new method for designing moment resisting concrete frames failing in a global mode is presented in this paper. Starting from the analysis of the typical collapse mechanisms of frames subjected to horizontal forces, the method is based on the application of the kinematic theorem of plastic collapse. The beam section properties are assumed to be known quantities, because they are designed to resist vertical loads. As a consequence, the unknowns of the design problem are the column sections. They are determined by means of design conditions expressing that the kinematically admissible multiplier of the horizontal forces corresponding to the global mechanism has to be the smallest among all kinematically admissible multipliers. In addition, the proposed design method includes the influence of second-order effects. In particular, second-order effects can play an important role in the seismic design and can be accounted for by means of the mechanism equilibrium curves of the analysed collapse mechanism. The practical application of the proposed methodology is herein presented with reference to the design of a multi-storey frame whose pattern of yielding is validated by means of push-over analysis.

  • This paper presents, the design of a latch mechanism for wafer containers in a standard mechanical interface environment. For an integrated circuits fabrication factory, the standard mechanical interfaced wafer container is an effective tool to prevent wafers from particle contamination during wafer storage, transporting or transferring. The latch mechanism inside the container door is used to latch and further seal the wafer container for safety and air quality. Kinematic characteristics of the mechanism are established by analyzing the required functions of the mechanisms. Based on these characteristics, a methodology for enumerating feasible latch mechanisms is developed. New mechanisms with one degree-of-freedom and up to five links are generated. An optimum design is also identified with respect to the criteria pertinent to the application. The computer-aided simulation is also built to verify the design.

  • The purpose of earthquake resistant design for typical bridges is the No Collapse Design and the Earthquake Resistant Design Part of Roadway Bridge Design Code provides a design process to construct the Ductile Failure Mechanism for the bridge structure. However, if it is not practical to provide the Ductile Failure Mechanism due to structure types or site conditions, the Brittle Failure Mechanism is an alternative way to get the No Collapse Design. As well as the existing design process constructing the Ductile Failure Mechanism, the Earthquake Resistant Design Part provides a ductility-based design process as an appendix, which is prepared for bridges with reinforced concrete piers. According to the new design process, designer determines a required response modification factor for substructure and transverse reinforcement for confinement therefrom. In this study, a typical bridge with steel bearing connections and reinforced concrete piers is selected for which the existing as well as the ductility-based design processes are applied and different results from the two design processes are identified. Based on the results, an earthquake resistant design procedure is proposed in which designers should consider the two design processes.

  • This paper presents the dimensional synthesis and kinematic analysis of the RSCS-SSP motion generating spatial mechanism using the displacement matrix method. This type of spatial mechanisms is used for the Mcpherson suspension in small automobiles. It is modeled for the wheel bump/rebound and steering motion. First, the suspension is modeled as a multiloop spatial rigid body guidance mechanism for the two major motions. Then the design equations for SSP, RS, and SC strut links are applied to synthesize an RSCS-SSP for up to three prescribed positions for the steering motiom from the suspension design specification. Thus a RSCS-SSP mechanism which is synthesized is also analyzed for the displacement during the steering motion.

  • This study proposes an integrated serial spring-damper mechanism as a dual pulse generation system. Compared to the traditional dual pulse generation system, which used multiple springs and a damper to generate a dual pulse critical for impact testing of naval equipments, currently used separated serial spring-damper mechanism is comprised of two components: an air spring, and a damper. The proposed mechanism combines the two components into one integrated system with a unique design that lets simply changing the volume and the pressure of the air tank, and the length of the annular pipe adjust the stiffness and damping constants for testing, eliminating the need to have multiple sets of air springs and dampers. Simulations using MatLab and Simulink were conducted to verify the feasibility of this design. The results show the potential of an integrated serial spring-damper mechanism as a more convenient and flexible mechanism for dual pulse generation system.

  • In this paper, a forearm Mechanism design inspired by ligamentous structure of the human body is proposed. The proposed mechanism consists of four rigid bodies and fourteen wires without any mechanical joints. Actually, the mechanism is based on the concept of the tensegrity structure. Therefore, the proposed mechanism has inherently compliant characteristics due to the flexibility of the wires composing the structure. Rigid bodies and wires of the mechanism mimic bones and major ligaments in the forearm of the human. The proposed mechanism is classified as one of the interconnected hybrid flexure systems. The analysis method of the degree of freedom (DOF) of the proposed mechanism is also introduced through analyzing technique of the interconnected hybrid flexure systems, in this paper. Ultimately, the proposed mechanism, whose structure is complicated with rigid bodies and wires, mathematically drives that it has 3-DOFs.

  • For a linkage mechanism deiven by cam, cam profile is the major design factor and is determined by the motion type od cam follower. If a cam mechanism has additional kinematic linkages besides cam and follower then the follower motion should be specified form the motion of end linkage member so that cam would be able to generate the desired end linkage motion. In this paper, a cam-linkage mechanism is constructed with the combinations of modular linkage elements including cam and follower and as a resullt, a planar cam-linkage mechanism design software with the cam profile optimization function is developed and presented.
