인체 임피던스를 이용한 양방향 통신 시스템의 설계 (Development of a Half-Duplex Communication Device for Use via Human Skin)

  • In this study, a half-duplex mutual communication device via human skin was developed. Frequency-shift keying (FSK) digital modulation and demodulation control were used to transmit and receive data. Data communication through the human body is an effective communication technique and has high-grade security characteristics. In addition, making contact is a natural instinct of humans. Transmitting data through the human body is currently a highly conspicuous technology, because recently a lot of commercial sensors for humans have been developed. A body area network (BAN) can be easily constructed by this communication method on human skin. In this study, a half-duplex FSK mutual communication device was developed using a commercial FSK modulator and demodulator. A special control switching circuit and communication sequence were developed for mutual communication through human skin.

  • In this study, we investigate the deformation behavior of $Hf_{44.5}Cu_{27}Ni_{13.5}Nb_5Al_{10}$ metallic glass powder under repeated compressive strain during mechanical milling. High-density (11.0 g/cc) Hf-based metallic glass powders are prepared using a gas atomization process. The relationship between the mechanical alloying time and microstructural change under phase transformation is evaluated for crystallization of the amorphous phase. Planetary mechanical milling is performed for 0, 40, or 90 h at 100 rpm. The amorphous structure of the Hf-based metallic glass powders during mechanical milling is analyzed using differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and X-ray diffraction (XRD). Microstructural analysis of the Hf-based metallic glass powder deformed using mechanical milling reveals a layered structure with vein patterns at the fracture surface, which is observed in the fracture of bulk metallic glasses. We also study the crystallization behavior and the phase and microstructure transformations under isothermal heat treatment of the Hf-based metallic glass.

Pseudolite/Ultra-low-cost IMU Integrated Robust Indoor Navigation System Through Real-time Cycle Slip Detection and Compensation

  • In recent years, research has been actively conducted on the navigation in an indoor environment where Global Navigation Satellite System signals are unavailable. Among them, a study performed indoor navigation by integrating pseudolite carrier and Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) sensor. However, in this case, there was no solution for the cycle slip occurring in the carrier. In another study, cycle slip detection and compensation were performed by integrating Global Positioning System (GPS) and IMU in an outdoor environment. However, in an indoor environment, cycle slip occurs more easily and frequently, and thus the occurrence of half cycle slip also increases. Accordingly, cycle slip detection based on 1 cycle unit has limitations. Therefore, in the present study, the aforementioned problems were resolved by performing indoor navigation through the integration of pseudolite and ultra-low-cost IMU embedded in a smartphone and by performing half cycle slip detection and compensation based on this. In addition, it was verified through the actual implementation of real-time navigation.

철도 차량용 방진고무의 온도에 따른 뮬린스 효과 (Temperature-dependent Mullins Effect in Anti-vibration Rubber for Railway Vehicles)

  • Rubber materials are widely used for anti-vibration in various industries such as railways, automobile, and aviation. However, various factors hinder the accurate prediction of mechanical properties and lifetime of these materials. Particularly, a stress softening phenomenon Mullins effect greatly affects the accuracy of test results by reducing the initial peak stress. Although the Mullins effect has been studied previously, research on its temperature dependence is lacking. In this study, we performed experiments to estimate the temperature dependence of the Mullins effect. Dumbbell specimens made of natural rubber (NR65) was mounted on a stress softening tester and placed in a heat chamber, where they were tested at temperature of 25, 50, and $80^{\circ}C$. Further, five test sets, each consisting of 10 loading/unloading cycles were sequentially performed at predetermined time intervals. Based on the test results, we assessed the effect of temperature and time interval on stress softening and recovery.

계단 보행 근력 보조를 위한 착용형 로봇의 설계 및 제어 (Design and Control of a Wearable Robot for Stair-Climbing Assistance)

  • This paper describes the development of a thigh wearable robot for power assistance during stair climbing. In the wearable robot developed in this study, high-power BLDC motors and high-capacity harmonic reduction gears are used to effectively assist the thigh muscle during stair climbing. In particular, normal ground and stair are distinguished accurately by using wireless smart shoes, and the stair climbing assistance is performed by activating the actuators at an appropriate time. Impedance of the hip joint was effectively reduced by performing friction compensation of the gears, and a wearing adjustment mechanism was designed to fit the robot to the thigh by conveniently modifying the width and tilting angle of the robot using set collars. Consequently, the performance of the developed thigh wearable robot was verified through stair climbing experiments with EMG measurement.

라인레이저를 이용한 3D 모델 추출 방법 (3D Extraction Method Using a Low Cost Line Laser)

  • In this paper, we proposed a three-dimensional(3D) scanning system based on laser vision technique for 3D model reconstruction. The proposed scanning system consists of line laser, camera, and turntable. We implemented the 3D scanning system using low quality elements. Although these are low quality elements, we reduced the 3D data reconstruction errors greatly using two methods. First, we developed a maximum brightness detection algorithm. This algorithm extracts the maximum brightness of the line laser to obtain the shape of the object. Second, we designed a new laser control device. This device helps to adjust the relative position of the turntable and line laser. These two methods greatly reduce the measuring noise. As a result, point cloud data can be obtained without complicated calculations.

  • To avoid radiation exposure from repeated x-rays taken during orthopedic surgery, an x-ray permeable teleoperated Stewart platform for orthopedic fracture surgery was developed. This system is composed of a user interface device and a teleoperated operational robot, both of which use a Stewart platform mechanism. The links of the operational robot are made from an x-ray permeable material, polycarbonate, to minimize the interference. The forward and inverse kinematics algorithm applied and the structural reliability were both verified through an analysis using commercial engineering software. To monitor the operating status in real time and stop the device during an emergency, a monitoring software was developed. The performance of the x-ray permeable teleoperated Steward platform was validated experimentally.

  • Three dimensional (3D) position determination and motion recognition using a 3D depth sensor camera are applied to a developed penguin-shaped robot, and its validity and closeness are investigated. The robot is equipped with an Asus Xtion Pro Live as a 3D depth camera, and a sound module. Using the skeleton information from the motion recognition data extracted from the camera, the robot is controlled so as to follow the typical three mode-reactions formed by the operator's gestures. In this study, the extraction of skeleton joint information using the 3D depth camera is introduced, and the tracking performance of the operator's motions is explained.

무릎관절 재활기구에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Rehabilitation Equipment for Knee Joint)

  • This paper presents upgraded equipment to assist a patient in rehabilitating of their knee-joint by themselves. A new automatic mechanism is suggested and developed in order to add functions for enforcing the leg muscles, which were absent in previous rehabilitation machines. Using the Pro-engineer software, we analyze the displacements and speeds of several moving points of the equipment during various planned exercises. In addition, an appropriate control panel for operation is developed. Three motors andthree motor drivers are used in a tilting part for the ankle joint, sliding guide part for the knee joint, and up-down moving part for the whole leg. Finally, various newly upgraded motions can be generated by controlling the three motors simultaneously. we show that by using this equipment, we can adjust the proper length of the equipment according to the user's height and the intensity of the rehabilitation exercise.

21세기 기계산업의 변화 - 광기술의 발전 동향 (Optical Technology of Mechanical Industries in the 21st Century)

  • 광기술은 차세대 산업 분야에서 기계, 전자와의 융합을 통한 첨단 산업의 핵심요소이다. 또한 광기술은 현재 신성장동력인 IT, 디스플레이, 자동차, 의료, 반도체 등 국내 기간산업 제품의 품질 및 기능을 향상시켜 고부가 가치를 창출할 수 있는 기초 원천 핵심 기술 및 응용 기술로 활용되고 있으며, 향후 첨단 산업 분야에서 광기술 활용도는 더욱 더 높아질 것으로 예상되고 있다. 본 논문에서는 오늘날 산업 분야에서 중요도가 점차 높아지고 있는 광기술의 발전 동향을 21 세기 기계 산업과 관련하여 설명한다. 특히 다양한 광기술 분야 중에서 보다 기계산업과 관련성이 높은 반도체 조명, 광계측, 산업용 레이저 및 레이저 가공 기술을 중심으로 발전 동향을 살펴본다.
