  • PEMS (printed electro-mechanical system) is fabricated by means of various printing technologies. Passive and active components in 2D or 3D such as conducting lines, resistors, capacitors, inductors and TFT, which are printed with functional materials, can be classified in this category. And the issue of PEMS is applied to a R2R process in the manufacturing process. In many electro-devices, the vacuum process is used as the manufacturing process. However, the vacuum process has a problem: it is difficult to apply toa continuous process as a R2R printing process. In this paper, we propose an ESD (electro static deposition) printing process has been used to apply an organic solar cell of thin film forming. ESD is a method of liquid atomization by electrical forces, anelectrostatic atomizer sprays micro-drops from the solution injected into the capillary, with electrostatic force generated by electric potential of about tens of kV. ESD method is usable in the thin film coating process of organic materials and continuous process as a R2R manufacturing process. Therefore, we experiment the thin films forming of PEDOT:PSS layer and Active layer which consist of the P3HT:PCBM. The result of experiment, organic solar cell using ESD thin film coated method is occurred efficiency of about 1.4%. Also, the case of only used to ESD method in the active layer coating is occurred efficiency of about 1.86% as the applying a spin coating in the PEDOT:PSS layer. We can expect that ESD method is possible for continuous process to manufacture in the organic solar cell or OLED device.

In this paper, we propose an ESD (electro static deposition) printing process has been used to apply an organic solar cell of thin film forming. • Since airborne bacteria have been known to aggravate indoor air quality, studies on reducing bacteria particles increase recently. In this study, a chamber(0.8m x 0.8m x 1.56m) system was built in order to simulate real conditions for reducing airborne bacteria, and evaluated by a simple aerosol reduction test. A method utilizing CFD(Computational Fluid Dynamics) simulation was used to detect the horizontal cross-sectional area which represents particle distribution in the chamber. Then an air-cleaner with HEPA filter and Carbon Fiber Ionizer was located on that area for aerosol reduction test. The CFD result found the area was located at 0.2m height from the bottom of the chamber, and the test showed aerosol reduction efficiencies using measurements of number concentration and CFU(colony forming unit) per each case. At the measurement of number concentration, the reduction efficiency of air-cleaner with filter and ionizer(Case 3) was about 90% after 4 minutes from the stop of the bacteria injection, and that with only filter(Case 2) was about 90% after 8 minutes from the beginning. Lastly, that without filter and ionizer(Case 1) was about 30% after 10 minutes. At the measurement of CFU, it shows similar results but it is related to viability of bio-aerosol.

  • Cu-Cu thermo-compression bonding process was successfully developed as functions of the deposited Cu thickness and $Ar+H_2$ forming gas annealing conditions before and after bonding step in order to find the low temperature bonding conditions of 3-D integrated technology where the interfacial toughness was measured by 4-point bending test. Pre-annealing with $Ar+H_2$ gas at $300^{\circ}C$ is effective to achieve enough interfacial adhesion energy irrespective of Cu film thickness. Successful Cu-Cu bonding process achieved in this study results in delamination at $Ta/SiO_2$ interface rather than Cu/Cu interface.

  • In this study, a cold forging process was developed for the roller tappet housing of an engine valvetrain system. A tappet sample was manufactured and subjected to an endurance test. The material properties were obtained from a compression test, and forging analysis was carried out to design a forging process using a commercial program, Deform-3D. The forging process was set up based on the analysis results, and a die set and sample tappet housing were manufactured. To evaluate the sample, the dimensional accuracy, surface roughness, parallelism, and concentricity were measured and confirmed. To evaluate the actuation and durability, a special test rig was developed to simulate the valvetrain system of the engine. An actuation test was performed based on the idle speed of a general diesel engine, and an endurance test was done based on the maximum speed. The results show minor wear of 0.002 mm. The developed test rig will be used to evaluate the actuation and durability of other valvetrain parts.

  • To achieve the ideal performances of paint film, resins and hardeners have to be chosen and designed in a proper way depending on the exposure circumstance of substrate and the requested physical properties. Six different kinds of clear paints were made in this experiment using alkyd polyol, polyester polyol, polyester modified acrylic polyol and another 3 acrylic polyol resins whose $T_g$ and OH value were partially modified. Then the tests for chemical, physical, and mechanical properties were measured after forming the paint films using aliphatic and aromatic polyisocyanate. The viscosity and elasticity of paint film were then measured in terms of gel point and $tan{\delta}$ using Rheometer and DMA. Through this viscoelastic characteristic test of polyurethane resin, we were able to choose the adequate resins and hardeners which are the most important in the top and primer painting system of urethane paint and, as a result of observing the physical, mechanical, and chemical properties of paint film by urethane, we have finally reached the conclusion that we could apply the proper polyol to top and primer paint for developing the polyurethane paint system.

  • This paper presents the strength safety of a LPG cylinder, which is fabricated by a steel sheet forming and a welding technology. The strength safety of a cylinder is guaranteed by analyzing a stress distribution of a LPG cylinder structure using a finite element method. The FEM computed results indicate that the hydraulic test gas pressure of $31kg/cm^2$ generates a concentrated local stress near the upper round end plate, which exceeds the yield strength of a LPG cylinder. Thus, the current hydraulic test pressure may be rechecked and revised because this pressure increases the fatigue failure and decreases the lift of the pressure vessel. The normal operation and sealing gas pressures such as $9kg/cm^2\;and\;18.6kg/cm^2$ are relatively safe for a steel LPG cylinder.

  • Power transmission shafts in rotary wing aircraft use a hollow shaft to reduce weight. We can apply linear elastic fracture mechanics to predict crack propagation behavior. This paper predicted crack growth life of a hollow shaft with a circumferential through-type crack by finite element analysis. A 2D finite element model was created by applying a torsion and forming elements considering cracks. We defined the initial crack length and performed the finite element analysis by increasing the crack length to derive stress intensity factor at crack tips. We defined the length just prior to the stress intensity factor exceeding the fracture toughness as the crack limit length. We calculated the crack limit length using a handbook and numerically integrated the crack growth rate equation to derive growth life of each crack. The growth life of each crack was compared to verify the proposed finite element analysis method.

  • The spray behavior of direct-injection spark-ignition(DISI) engines is crucial for obtaining the required mixture distribution for optimal engine combustion. The spray characteristics of DISI engines are affected by many factors such as piston bowl shape, air flow, ambient temperature, injection pressure and fuel temperature. In this study, the effect of fuel temperature on the spray and combustion characteristics was partially investigated for the wall-guided system. The effect of fuel temperature on the fan spray characteristics was investigated in a steady flow rig embodied in a wind tunnel. The shadowgraphy and direct imaging methods were employed to visualize the spray development at different fuel temperatures. The microscopic characteristics of spray were investigated by the particle size measurements using a phase Doppler anemometry(PDA). The effect of injector temperature on the engine combustion characteristics during cold start and warming-up operating conditions was also investigated. Optical single cylinder DISI engine was used for the test, and the successive flame images captured by high speed camera, engine-out emissions and performance data have been analyzed. This could give the way of forming the stable mixture near the spark plug to achieve the stable combustion of DISI engine.

  • A phased array ultrasonic nondestructive inspection system is being developed to obtain images of the interior of steel structures by modifying a medical ultrasound imaging system. The medical system consists of 64 individual transceiver channels that can drive 128 array elements. Several modifications of the system were required mainly due to the change of sound speed. It was necessary to fabricate array transducers for steel structure and to obtain A-scan signal that is necessary for the nondestructive testing. Boundary diffraction wave model was used for the prediction of radiation beam field from array transducers, which provided guidelines to design array transducers. And a RF data acquisition board was fabricated for the A-scan signal acquisition along a selected un line within an image. For the proper beam forming in the transmission and reception for steel structure, delay time was controlled. To demonstrate the performance of the developed system and fabricated transducers, images of artificial specimens and A-scan signals for selected scan lines were obtained in a real time fashion.
