  • A fundamental study for developing a fault diagnosis system of a pump is performed by using neural network. Acoustic signals were obtained and converted to frequency domain for normal products and artificially deformed products. The neural network model used in this study was 3-layer type composed of input, hidden, and output layer. The normalized amplitudes at the multiples of real driving frequency were chosen as units of input layer. And the codes of pump malfunctions were selected as units of output layer. Various sets of teach signals made from original data by eliminating some random cases were used in the training. The average errors were approximately proportional to the number of untaught data. Neural network trained by acoustic signals can detect malfunction or diagnose fault of a given machine from the results.

  • Fault detection and diagnosis is the most important technology in condition-based maintenance(CBM) system that usually begins from collecting signatures of running machines using multiple sensors for subsequent accurate analysis. With the quick development in industry, there is an increasing requirement of selecting special sensors that are cheap, robust, and easy-installation. This paper experimentally investigated performances of four types of sensors used in induction motors faults diagnosis, which are vibration, current, voltage and flux. In addition, diagnostic effects of five popular classifiers also were evaluated. First, the raw signals from the four types of sensors are collected at the same time. Then the features are calculated from collected signals. Next, these features are classified through five classifiers using artificial intelligence techniques. Finally, conclusions are given based on the experiment results.

  • The Hybrid Fault current limit combined the semiconductor switching components, for example IGBT, with mechanical fast switch reduced mechanical and thermal stress on electrical machines, for example circuit breaker, transformer, and so on, in the electric network. We had focused on reducing the voltage stress of the semiconductor switching components by the mechanical fast switch. As a result, we could dramatically reduce amount of semiconductor switching components only using parallel arrangement of them, not series.

  • The development of automatic production system have required intelligent diagnostic and monitoring function to repair system failure and reduce production loss by the failure. In order to perform accurate functions of intelligent system, inference about total system failure and fault analysis due to each mechanical component failures are required. Also the solution about repair and maintenance can be suggested from these analysis results. Generally, bearing is a essential mechanical component in the machinery. The bearing failure is caused by lubricant system failure, metallurgical defficiency, mechanical condition(vibration overloading misalignment), environmental effect. This study described roller bearing fault train due to stress variation and metallurgical defficiency from lubricant failure by using FTA.

  • Chemical facility system have dangerous elements that can injure the human like an explosion and a fire, gas poisoning by a leakage of the harmful chemical material. In addition to a vibration of the machine occurs the leakage. Therefore, the chemical factory requires for periodic monitoring of the vibration. But, until now, the operator has executed a monitoring of the machine by the senses. So, the diagnostic expert system by which the operator can judge easily and expertly a condition of the machine is developed. This paper describes the structure of diagnostic system and the diagnostic algorithm using fuzzy inference

  • Decision tree is one of the most effective and widely used methods for building classification model. Researchers from various disciplines such as statistics, machine learning, pattern recognition, and data mining have considered the decision tree method as an effective solution to their field problems. In this paper, an application of decision tree method to classify the faults of induction motors is proposed. The original data from experiment is dealt with feature calculation to get the useful information as attributes. These data are then assigned the classes which are based on our experience before becoming data inputs for decision tree. The total 9 classes are defined. An implementation of decision tree written in Matlab is used for these data.

  • High and intermittent loading cycles induce fatigue damage to transmission components, resulting in premature gearbox failure. To identify gearbox defects, numerous vibration-based diagnostics techniques, using several artificial intelligence (AI) algorithms, have recently been presented. In this paper, an optimized deep belief network (DBN) model for gearbox problem diagnosis was designed based on time-frequency visual pattern identification. To optimize the hyperparameters of the model, a particle swarm optimization (PSO) approach was integrated into the DBN. The proposed model was tested on two gearbox datasets: a wind turbine gearbox and an experimental gearbox. The optimized DBN model demonstrated strong and robust performance in classification accuracy. In addition, the accuracy of the generated datasets was compared using traditional ML and DL algorithms. Furthermore, the proposed model was evaluated on different partitions of the dataset. The results showed that, even with a small amount of sample data, the optimized DBN model achieved high accuracy in diagnosis.

  • Participants in the Asia Pacific Conference of the Prognostics and Health Management Society 2017 (PHMAP 2017) Data Challenge were given measured vibration signals from motor-driven gearboxes used in pulverizers. Using this information, participants were requested to predict failure dates and the faulty components. The measured signals were affected by significant noise and disturbance, as the pulverizers in the provided data worked under actual operating conditions. This paper thus presents a fault prediction method for a motor-driven gearbox in a pulverizer system that can perform under external noise and disturbance conditions. First, two fault features, an RMS value in the higher frequency zones (HRMS) and an amplitude of a period for high-speed shaft in the quefrency domain ($QA_{HSS}$), were extracted based on frequency analysis using the higher and lower sampling rate data. The two features were then applied to each pulverizer based on results of frequency responses to impact loadings. Then, a regression analysis was used to predict the failure date using the two extracted features. A weighted regression analysis was used to compensate for the imbalance of the features in the given period. In addition, the faulty components in the motor-driven gearboxes were predicted based on the modulated frequency components. The score predicted by the proposed approach was ranked first in the PHMAP 2017 Data Challenge.

  • Acoustic Emission technique is widely applied to develop the early fault detection system, and the problem about a signal processing method for AE signal is mainly focused on. In the signal processing method, envelope analysis is a useful method to evaluate the bearing problems and wavelet transform is a powerful method to detect faults occurred on rotating machinery. However, exact method for AE signal is not developed yet for the rotating machinery diagnosis. Therefore, in this paper two methods which are processed by Hilbert transform and DET for feature extraction. In addition, we evaluate the classification performance with varying the parameter from 2 to 15 for feature selection DET, 0.01 to 1.0 for the RBF kernel function of SVR, and the proposed algorithm achieved 94 % classification of averaged accuracy with the parameter of the RBF 0.08, 12 feature selection.

  • This paper describes a fault-tolerant driving control strategy for an independent steer-by-wire system in sixwheel-drive/six-wheel-steering vehicles. An algorithm has been designed to realize vehicle maneuverability that is as close as possible to that of non-faulty vehicles by inducing high slip ratio of the wheel through a faulty steer-by-wire system in order to reduce the lateral tire force, which is resistant to the yaw motion. Considering the transition of the longitudinal tire force of a wheel with a faulty steer-by-wire component, the longitudinal tire forces are optimally distributed to the other wheels. Fault-tolerant driving performance has been investigated via computer simulations. Simulation studies show that the proposed algorithm can significantly improve the maneuverability of a vehicle with a faulty steer-by-wire system as compared to the optimal traction distribution method.
