An experimental model is investigated in this paper using the experimental method with a shock tube and the numerical technique. The shock-vortex interaction generated by this model is visualized with various methods: holographic interferometry, shodowgraphy, and numerical computation. In terms of shock dynamics, there are two meaningful physics in the present problem. They are reflective wave from the slip layer at the vortex edge and transmitted shock penetrating the vortex core. The discussion in this study is mainly focused on the two kinds of waves contributing to the quadrupolar pressure distribution around the vortex center during the interaction.
High-speed moist air or steam flow has long been of important subject in engineering and industrial applications. Of many complicated gas dynamics problems involved in moist air flows, the most challenging task is to understand the nonequilibrium condensation phenomenon when the moist air rapidly expands through a flow device. Many theoretical and experimental studies using supersonic wind tunnels have devoted to the understanding of the nonequilibrium condensation flow physics so far. However, the nonequilibrium condensation can be also generated in the subsonic flows induced by the unsteady expansion waves in shock tube. The major flow physics of the nonequilibrium condensation in this application may be different from those obtained in the supersonic wind tunnels. In the current study, the nonequilibrium condensation phenomenon caused by the unsteady expansion waves in a shock tube is analyzed by using the two-dimensional, unsteady, Navier-Stokes equations, which are fully coupled with a droplet growth equation. The third-order TVD MUSCL scheme is applied to solve the governing equation systems. The computational results are compared with the previous experimental data. The time-dependent behavior of nonequilibrium condensation of moist air in shock tube is investigated in details. The results show that the major characteristics of the nonequilibrium condensation phenomenon in shock tube are very different from those in the supersonic wind tunnels.

Micro shock tubes are now-a-days used for a variety engineering applications such as in the field of aerospace, combustion technology and drug delivery systems. But the flow characteristics of micro shock tube will be different from that of well established conventional macro shock tube under the influence of very low Reynolds number and high Knudsen number formed due to smaller diameter. In present study, experimental studies were carried out to a closed end (downstream) Micro Shock Tube with two different diameters were investigated to understand the flow characteristics. Pressure values were measured at different locations inside the driver and driven section. The results obtained show that with the increase in diameter the shock propagation velocity increases as well as the effect of reflected shock wave will be more significant under the same diaphragm rupture pressure.
The interaction between a normal shock wave and a boundary layer along a wall surface in internal compressible flows causes a very complicated flow. This interaction region containing shock train and mixing region is called as pseudo-shock waves. Pseudo-shock waves in the divergent part of a rectangular nozzle have been investigated by using large-eddy simulation (LES). LES studies have been done for the complex flow phenomena of three-dimensional pseudo-shock waves. The LES results have been validated against experimental wall-pressure measurements. The LES results are in good agreement with experimental results. Pseudo-shock length and corner separation have been studied in three-dimensional LES model. Comparison of centerline pressure measurement and 3D visualization measurement has been discussed for the corner separation position. It has been concluded that the pseudo-shock length should be measured by using 3D visualization measurement.

Shock wave/boundary layer interaction frequently causes the shock wave to oscillate violently and thus the global flow field to unstabilize. In order to stabilize the shock wave system in the diffuser of a supersonic wind tunnel, the present study attempted to control the shock oscillations by using a passive control. A porous wall with the porosity of 19.6% was mounted on a shallow cavity. Experiment was made by means of schlieren optical observation and wall pressure measurements. The flow Mach number just upstream the shock system and Reynolds number based on the turbulent boundary layer thickness were 2.1 and 1.8 * 10$\^$6/, respectively. The results show that the present passive control method on the shock wave/boundary layer interaction in the supersonic diffuser can significantly suppress the oscillations of shock system, especially when the shock system locates at the porous wall.
Recently micro shock tube is extensively being used in many diverse fields of engineering applications but the detailed flow physics involved in it is hardly known due to high Knudsen number and strong compressibility effects. Unlike the macro shock tube, the surface area to volume ratio for a micro shock tube is very large. This unique effect brings many complexities into the flow physics that makes the micro shock tube different compared with the macro shock tube. In micro shock tube, the inter- molecular forces of working gas can play an important role in specifying the flow characteristics of the unsteady shock wave flow which is essentially generated in all kinds of shock tubes. In the present study, a CFD method was used to predict and visualize the unsteady shock wave flows using the unsteady compressible Navier-Stokes equations, furnished with the no-slip and slip wall boundary conditions. Maxwell's slip equations were used to mathematically model the shock movement at high Knudsen number. The present CFD results show that the propagation speed of the shock wave is directly proportional to the initial pressure and diameter of micro shock tube.

TFT-LCD(Thin Film Transistor Liquid Crystal Display) module is representative commercial product of FPD(Flat Panel Display). Thickness of TFT-LCD module is very thin. It is adopted for major display unit for IT devices such as Cellular Phone, Camcorder, Digital camera and etc. Due to the harsh user environment of mobile IT devices, it requires complicated structure and tight assembly. And user requirements for the mechanical functionalities of TFT-LCD module become more strict. However, TFT-LCD module is normally weak to high level transient mechanical shock. Since it uses thin crystallized panel. Therefore, anti-shock performance is classified as one of the most important design specifications. Traditionally, the product reliability against mechanical shock is confirmed by empirical method in the design-prototype-drop/impact testredesign paradigm. The method is time-consuming and expensive process. It lacks scientific insight and quantitative evaluation. In this article, a systematic design evaluation of TFT-LCD module for mobile IT devices is presented with combinations of FEA and testing to support the optimal shock proof display design procedure.
Axisymmetric compressible flow field induced by shock diffraction from a finite cone is investigated with experimental and computational methods. Double-exposure holographic interferograms show ima ges of the density field integrated along the light path. Using the sight-integrated density based on the Able transformation, the axisymmetric computational results are compared qualitatively with the experiment. In the present paper, we observed some distinguishing flow physics: the fault structure of vortex ring, the shock-vortex interaction, and the morphological transformation of shock waves.
In order to control the transonic flow field with a shock wave, a condensing flow was produced by an expansion of moist air on a circular bump model and shock waves were occurred in the supersonic parts of the fields. Furthermore, the additional passive technique of shock-boundary layer interaction using the porous wall with a cavity underneath was adopted in this flow field. The effects of these methods on the shock wave characteristics were investigated numerically. The result showed that the flow fields might be effectively controlled by the suitable combination between non-equilibrium condensation and the position of porous wall.
