  • We introduce a simple optically passive detection scheme for Bragg grating sensors. This detection scheme is based on two cavity lengths in Fabry-Perot read-out interferometers to produce two quadrature phase shifted signals from the Bragg grating sensor. The passive detection technique is demonstrated by the use of Bragg grating sensors in measuring the dynamic vibrations of the composites.

  • Due to a variable noises in the field underground lines, clear technology of noises is very important in the diagnosis technology of partial discharge. Therefore we progressed filter test to improve the measuring test of partial discharge in a field. We applied to field test after making W-LC filter for partial discharge measurement, and then designed experimental environment such as under- ground distribution lines of field. Measuring sensor for test was UHF sensor. And we analysed those using the Lemke Probe and oscilloscope (TDS-3054, Tektro- nix). Finally, we obtained excellent data of noise decrement in the joint box of 22.9[kV] distribution lines from above experiment.

  • Many researches on measurement technology has been made and developed by various methods. Considering the measurement environment with cutting fluid, coolant and the like, contact type measurement methods are mostly used. But contact measurement method has measuring force and so the sensing head becomes worn. By these reasons, we considered sensors not influenced by the former fluid and so can acquire accrate measured values using error compensation due to temperature and vibration. For this purpose, eddy current sensors and Extended kalman Filter Algorithm for processing measured data has been used. In this paper, we present new technology that can be used for measuring workpiece with previous bad environment using direct method and comparison measurement method. We used cylindrical workpieces which were produced by grinding machine for the target.

  • According to the development of the ubiquitous computing technic today, the sensor base system is becoming a big issue in IT fields. This study is to develop a smart weather watching system which allows us to carry out temperature measuring without regard to location and altitude using the sensor devices. this system is composed of the wireless receiver module(PC base) and the wireless measuring module(ATmega2560 base).

  • The simplest method for measuring output currents of the three phase inverters is to measure them with three current sensors such as hall sensors. This method requires at least two current sensors, and these types of sensors are somewhat expensive. More economical method is measuring DC link current with a simple shunt resistor, then, reconstructing output current using the DC link current value and the switching status. However, in low speed region, the measurement becomes difficult and even impossible due to the requirement of minimum switching duration for A/D conversion. These problems can be overcome by limitation of switching duration. Limitation of switching, however, causes voltage and current distortion. Owing to compensation, distortion can be effectively suppressed. However these increase acoustic noise due to increment of current ripple. In this paper, a current measurement method is proposed, which can reduce minimum switching duration resulting in reduction of acoustic noise. The validity of proposed method is confirmed through experiment.

  • Generally, The position of mobile robot moving on the plane is measured by the method of dead reckoning, using the encoder system coupled on a wheel axis. But it is noted that the encoder system cannot check the slip of a wheel, often occurring in tracking of the mobile robot. In this study, using velocity angular velocity sensor with a tuning fork vibration system, the system is developed which can measure the directional angle of positional variables on the mobile robot. By measuring the variations of tracking direction mobile robot equipped with this system, following result is found; In spite of the slip at a wheel when measuring the tracking directional angle, the error occurs in the range of .+-. 1 (degree).

  • We experimentally investigated the mechanical and electrical characteristics of the poly vinyl alcohol(PVA) hydrogel which have attracted special interest as a mechanochemical material, and the applicability of the hydrogel membrane to a sensor for measuring large strain. As a result, the PVA hydrogel could be regarded as a Hookean elastic material and was treated as an electric resistance which was proportional to the tensile strain within a linearly elastic range.

  • This paper deals with semisphere-type sensor fo measuring the electric field waveforms by lightning discharges. The theoretical principle and design rule of the device are introduced, and also the calibration and application investigations are carried out. From the calibration experiments, the frequency bandwidth of the semisphere-type electric field measuring device ranges from 200 [Hz] to 1.56 [MHz], and the sensitivity of sensor is 0.96 [mV/V/m]. The electric field waveforms produced by lightning discharges were observed for June and August 1995. It is shown that the electric field waveforms produced at the distance of more than 50 [km] include only radiation component.

  • In order to evaluate the safety of navigation at sea and the safety of mooring ship on berthing, it is necessary that the wave and wind induced ship dynamic motion should be measured in real time domain for the validity of theoretical evaluation method such as sea-keeping performance and safety of mooring. In this paper, the basic design of sensors is discussed and some system configurations were shown. The developed system mainly consists of 4 kinds of sensors such as three dimensional accelerator, two dimensional tilt sensor, two displacement sensors and azimuth sensor. Using the this measuring system, it can be obtained the 6 degrees of freedom of ship dynamic motions at sea and on berthing such as rolling, pitching, yawing, sway, heave, surge under the external forces.

  • In the labor-intensive construction site, potential threats of the musculoskeletal diseases mainly caused by various repetitive physical tasks, vulnerable environment, and the aging of the labor worker exist. However, quantitative measuring method of construction labor worker's work posture has not been improved yet. This study proposed musculoskeletal measuring method by using wearable motion recognition sensor for quantitative evaluation and analysis of working posture of construction workers. This method is expected to be used as a basic data for posture analysis and prevention construction safety accidents, as well as physical workload and labor productivity analysis by labor work type.
