  • This paper presents a methodology of machining error compensation by using Artificial Neural Network(ANN) model based on the inspection database of On-Machine-Measurement(OMM) system. First, the geometric errors of the machining center and the probing errors are significantly reduced through compensation processes. Then, we acquire machining error distributions from a specimen workpiece. In order to efficiently analyze the machining errors, we define two characteristic machining error parameters. These can be modeled by using an ANN model, which allows us to determine the machining errors in the domain of considered cutting conditions. Based on this ANN model, we try to correct the tool path in order to effectively reduce the errors by using an iterative algorithm. The iterative algorithm allows us to integrate changes of the cutting conditions according to the corrected tool path. Experimentation is carried out in order to validate the approaches proposed in this paper.

  • Digital holographic microscopy allows optical path difference measurement. Optical path difference depends on the both refractive index and morphology of sample. We developed a dual-wavelength in-line digital holographic microscope that can measure simultaneously the refractive index and morphology of a sample, providing highly precise three-dimensional information. Here we propose theoretical and experimental methods for dual-wavelength in-line digital holographic microscopy. The measured data were reasonable, although there was data error. By improving the experimental method, we could measure the refractive index more precisely and obtain more accurate three-dimensional information on samples.

  • The insertion loss is the measured change in power flux at a specified receiver, when the acoustic transmission path between it and the source is modified by the insertion of silencer element. Such measurements have clear and valid physical meaning particularly if the source impedance remains while the transmission path is altered. When the invarient condition is satisfied, the insertion loss is given by the ratio of the acoustic pressure in upstream to that in downstream of the silencer, and that of the particle velocity. The measurement is consisted of using an adaptation of the two microphone method to obtain the complex amplitude of the sound in upstream tube as well as in downstream tube of the silencer. Examples of the data, reduced and presented in terms of the pressure ratio and particle speed ratio, are compared with the theoretical calculations.

  • Although laser interferometer measurement system has the advantage of range and accuracy, the traditional error measurement methods for geometric errors(two straightness and three angular errors) of a machine tool measures error components one at a time. It may also create an optical path difference and affect the measurement accuracy. In order to identify and compensate for geometric error of a moving body, an on-line measurement system for simultaneous detection of the five error components of a moving axis is required. An on-line measurement system with 5 degrees of freedom was developed for geometric error detection. Performance verification of the system was performed on an error generating mechanism. Experimental results show the feasibility of this system for identifying geometric errors of a side of machine tool.

  • In this paper, the method is proposed that the equivalent result can be obtained by compensating the variation of gain and phase in the comparison with the result of near-field measurement which is obtained in the steady state, although the gain and phase variation of rx-channels occurred in the near-field rx-measurement of digital active phased array antenna. The proposed concept has the time section for monitoring the state of the rx-channels through the calibration path in the measurement timeline, and is the method for compensating the variation of state. For validating the proposed method, the fabricated X-band digital active phased array antenna and the planar near-field measurement facility is utilized. The proposed method is validated in the comparison with the compensated pattern which the unstable state of rx-channels is calibrated and the reference pattern obtained under the steady state of the rx-channels.

  • Linear GPA(Gas Path Analysis) and non-linear GPA programs for performance diagnostics of a turboprop engine were developed, and a study for selection of optimal measurement variables was performed. Simultaneous faults in the compressor, the compressor turbine and the power turbine, which occur damage of the engine, were assumed. The non-linear GPA analysis was carried out with an iterative method, where the performance degradation rate of independent parameters was divided into same intervals. It was compared with the result by the Newton-Raphson method for observing the effect of an iterative method. According to the analysis result, it was found that performance of non-linear GPA can be influenced on the type of the iterative method. For showing effects of the number of measurement variables both the linear and non-linear GPAs were analyzed with 10, 8 and 6 measurement sets, respectively. RMS error between them were compared each other. It was realized that the more measurement parameters are used, and the more accurate result may be obtained. However much better result can be obtained with measurement parameters selected properly Moreover, RMS error by using non-linear GPA was less than that by using linear GPA.

  • Assuming omnidirectional antenna reception, the ITU-R recently developed a new propagation model on building entry loss (BEL) for 5G millimeter-wave frequency sharing and compatibility studies, which is a simplified outdoor-to-indoor path loss model. Considering the utilization of high-gain narrow-beamwidth beamforming, the omnidirectional-based ITU-R BEL model may not be appropriate to predict propagation characteristics for directional beamforming scenarios. This paper studies the effects of beamwidth on the ITU-R BEL model. This study is based on field measurements collected with four different beamwidth antennas: omnidirectional, 10° horn, 30° horn, and 60° horn. The measurement campaigns were conducted at two types of building sites: traditional and thermally efficient buildings. These sites, as well as the measurement scenarios, were carefully chosen to comply with the ITU-R BEL measurement guidelines and the ITU-R building types. We observed the importance of accurate beam alignment from the BEL variation range. We were able to quantify the beamwidth dependency by fitting to a model that is inversely proportional to the beamwidth.
