  • Gate capacitances have been measured directly on small-geometry MOSFET's with the drain voltage as a parameter for various channel lengths and for p and n channel types and the characteristics have been compared with each other. The influence of 'hot carrier effect' of short channel devices on capaciatance has been compared with long channel devices. The results show that gate capacitance characteristics of short channel device deviate from those of long channel device. The accuracy of the measurement system is less than a few femto Farad, and the minimum geometry (W/L) of device for which reliable measurement can be obtained is 6/3.

  • Exact optical characterization of virtual and augmented reality devices using conventional luminance measuring methods is a time-consuming process. A new measurement method is proposed to estimate in a relatively short time the boundary of ray trajectories emitting from a specific position on a virtual images. It is assumed that the virtual image can be modeled to be formed in front of one's eyes and seen through some optical aperture (field stop) that limits the field of view. Circular and rectangular shaped virtual images were investigated. From the estimated ray boundary, optical characteristics, such as the viewing direction and three dimensional range inside which a eye can observe the specified positions of the virtual image, were derived. The proposed method can provide useful data for avoiding the unnecessary measurements required for the previously reported method. Therefore, this method can be complementary to the previously reported method for reducing the whole measurement time of optical characteristics.

  • There are many test parameters in the DTV measurement, which uses several test measuring instruments and miscellaneous devices. To operate all of those devices and analyse test results is a tedious and time-consuming process with a high error rate committed by inexperienced test crews. In this paper, we propose an integrated DTV measurement and analysis system(IMAS) that remotely controls and manages any instruments with standard network interface. This system can take, organize, store the field data into an integrated database and easily produce systematic output according to user-defined form. It can also measure several types of digital broadcasting signals such as DTV, DMB, DAB with generalized measurement procedures. Proposed measurement system was applied in the DTV field test by KBS and proved that it could enhance the accuracy and efficiency of entire test sequences and also dramatically reduce measurement time compared to conventional measurement systems.

  • PURPOSE. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the repeatability and matching accuracy between two identical intraoral spectrophotometers. MATERIALS AND METHODS. The maxillary right central incisor, canine, and mandibular left central incisor of each of 30 patients were measured using 2 identical intraoral spectrophotometers with different serial numbers (EasyShade V). The color of each shade tab from 3 shade guides (VITA 3D-Master) was also determined with both devices. All measurements were performed by a single operator. Statistical analyses were performed to verify the repeatability, accuracy, and the differences between the devices with paired t-tests, one-way ANOVA, and intra-class correlation coefficients (ICCs) (${\alpha}=.05$). RESULTS. A high level of measurement repeatability (ICC>0.90) among $L^*$, $a^*$, and $b^*$ color components was observed within and between devices (P<.001). Intra-device matching agreement rates were 80.00% and 81.11%, respectively, while inter-device matching agreement rate was 51.85%. ANOVA revealed no significant different color values within each device, while paired t-test provided significant different color values between both devices. The CIEDE2000 color differences between both devices were $2.28{\pm}1.61$ ${\Delta}E_{00}$ for in-vivo readings. Regarding the clinical matching accuracy of both devices, ${\Delta}E_{00}$ values between teeth and matching shade tabs were $3.05{\pm}1.19$ and $2.86{\pm}1.02$, respectively. CONCLUSION. Although two EasyShade V devices with different serial numbers show high repeatability of CIE $L^*$, $a^*$, and $b^*$ measurements, they could provide different color values and shade for the same tooth.

  • This paper deals with the analysis results of surge voltage and current measured on information devices installed in a power substation. The power recorder to measure surge voltage and current was connected to signal lines near power transformers and switches, and the time resolution of the power recorder is 4 MS/s. Peak value of the measured surge voltage and current were ranges of 500~1,300v and 500~3,100k, respectively. During the period of measurement, over 5~10 events per day were recorded. Consequently, information devices installed in around high voltage power facilities should be designed considering the surge voltage and current caused in the condition.

  • In this study, the heat flow analysis compatible commercial code CFX 11 was used to develop the structure inside PCB circuit board devices, which could stable radiant heat as well as the cooling device within it. In case of modifying the arrangement of electronic parts on the PCB inside the multi channel temperature measurement board devices, radiant heat effects did not show a rising tendency, whereas the overall temperature went down in case of installing the vents in the outer case of PCB circuit board devices. In terms of installation location, it was the most appropriate to install it on the electronic parts with no heat. Besides, in case of mounting the fan as a cooling device by considering various user environments for multi channel temperature measurement board devices, the radiant heat effects were shown higher than in case of installing the vents, and the middle sections were the most appropriate to its installation location. In case of changing the wind quantity of the fan from its selected installation location, the best radiant heat effects were shown at high speed as expected.

  • The paper presents some methods to improve characteristics of film bulk acoustic resonator (FBAR) devices. The FBAR devices were fabricated on Bragg reflectors. Thermal treatments were done by sintering and/or annealing processes. The measurement showed a considerable improvement of return loss $(S_{11})$ and quality factor $(Q_{s/p}).$ These thermal treatment techniques seem very promising for enhancing FBAR resonance performance.

  • The design and fabrication of Q-band 3-stage monolithic microwave integrated circuit(MMIC) amplifier for WLAN are presented using 0.2$\square$ AIGaAs/lnGaAs/GaAs pseudomorphic high electron mobility transistor (PHEMT). In each stage of the MMIC, a negative feedback is used for both broadband and good stability. The measurement results are achieved as an input return loss under -4dB, an output return loss under -10dB, a gain of 14dB, and a PldB of 17dBm at Q-band(36~44GHz). These results closely match with design results. The chip size is 2.8${\times}$1.3mm$^2$. This MMIC amplifier will be used as the unit cell to develop millimeter-wave transmitters for use in wideband wireless LAN systems.

  • In modern electronic warfare, a variety of devices are being operated in the fields for the purposes of communication and surveillance. Therefore, if such devices work in the same band, interference may occur and affect each other. Regarding L-band in which various devices including radar systems are operating, interference from existing devices may affect new ones in the band. In this paper, we estimate a probability distribution of the interference environment in L-band from the selected measurement data, which is fundamental for the mathematical analysis. After selecting the candidates of probability distribution, we suggest the best one from the group. The results of this study are expected to be utilized as fundamental data for the mathematical approach to the L-band interference environment.

  • AGeneral radiation measuring devices have been developed in the form of spatial dose rate detection devices that measure dose rates to radioactive contaminant and 2D or 3D imaging devices for radioactive contamination information. Each of these radiation detection techniques has advantages. The advantages of both detection devices are necessary to minimize personal injury and rapid decontamination in the area of a radioactive accident. In this paper, we proposed a technique that can measure the dose rate and direction information about the radioactive pollutant source in real time using a detection sensor, a rotating body, and a directional shield for radioactive pollutant detection. The rotational-based detection device is configured to check the dose rate and direction using the location information of the rotator and measurement value. We proposed a measurement technique for vertical and horizontal directions through multiple holes. It was confirmed that the measurement error for direction information was less than 1% when detected in the horizontal direction.
