  • Piping work of large ships or offshore plants is often done in a narrow and confined space, requiring precise bending and safety. In order to realize an accurate bending angle, it is very important to predict and correct a deformation that may be caused by elasticity in the bending process, that is, an angular deviation due to springback. Therefore, by using CAE analysis to develop a correction angle model for springback based on multiple tube bending angles and using trend line data derived from this correction angle model, at bending the tube as the diameter of the base former and the tube outer diameter change, the springback compensation angle at any angle can be obtained. In this study, the bending mechanism was analyzed to increase the bending precision, and a correction angle model was developed and a trend line was derived in consideration of springback occurring in the bending process. In order to derive a more accurate and reliable trend line, a tube tensile test was performed, and the reliability of the corrected angle trend line was verified by comparing the bending angle measurement and analysis results with a 3D scanner.

  • Angle sensors based on the principle of autocollimation, which are usually called autocollimators, can accurately measure small tilt angles of a light-reflecting flat surface. This paper describes a prototype micro-angle sensor that is based on the laser autocollimation technique. The new angle sensor is compact and consists of a laser diode as the light source and a quadrant photodiode as a position-sensing device. Because of its concise design, the microangle sensor facilitates dynamic measurements of the angular error motions of a precision stage without influencing the original dynamic properties of the stage. This is because the sensor only requires a small extra target mirror to be mounted on the stage. The sensitivity of the angle detection is independent of the focal length of the objective lens; therefore, an objective lens with a relatively short focal length is employed to reduce the size of the device. The micro-angle sensor uses a single lens for the both the laser collimation and focusing, which distinguishes it from the conventional laser autocollimation method that has separate collimate and objective lenses. The new micro-angle sensor has dimensions of $15.1\times22.0\times14.0mm$ and its resolution is better than 0.1 arc-second The optical design and performance of this micro-angle sensor were verified by experimental results.

  • This study was performed to investigate the characteristics of tear staining syndrome in poodle dogs. Schirmer tear test, fluorescein dye test and measurement of the angle of bend between vertical and horizontal bony nasolacrimal duct were conducted in both poodles and German shepherd dogs. There were no significant differences between normal and tear-stained poodles in tear formation determined by Schimer tear test. However, there was significantly higher tear production in German shepherds than that in normal poodles(p<0.05). In the fluorescein dye test for the measurement of tear excretion, the dye was observed within $14.5{\pm}6.5$ minutes after dropping of the dye in normal poodles, but was not observed even over 30 minutes in tear-stained poodles. German shepherds had rather rapid passage time($0.4{\pm}0.3$ minutes) than poodles in the dye excretion. In the measurement of the angle of bend between vertical and horizontal bony nasolacrimal duct through dacryocystorhinography, there were no significant differences between normal tear-stained poodles with showing $85.0{\pm}6.8^{\circ}$ and $89.8{\pm}6.5^{\circ}$, respectively. However, obtuse angle of bend($106.8{\pm}4.7^{\circ}$) was shown in German shepherds. These results have ascertained that tear staining syndrome of poodle dogs was not related to tear production but to the rate of tear excretion.

  • The measurement and analysis of angular change have been studied in many fields. This study developed an angle measurement technique with optical fiber and photodiode. The position and attached angle of photodiode were investigated to find the proper combination of parameter. The results showed that the increased measuring range was achieved when the position of detector was away from the center of rotation. Inverse mathematical model was used to obtain angular changes with an optical fiber. The applications of this study include in optical sensor, joint angle measurement, and sport science.

  • The relationship between the observable noise model and the satellite elevation angle can be modeled quite well by an exponential function.[Jin, 1996] Noise size and dependence on the elevation angle are, however, different for each observation and receiver type. Therefore, the coefficient determination of this model is an issue, and various methods including PR-CP, single difference, and time difference have been suggested. The limitations of them are difficulty to model the carrier phase noise and to eliminate bias. To overcome these disadvantages for using Jin's model, we suggest zero baseline double difference (DD) and noise sorting algorithm. Data DD technique in zero baseline is useful to eliminate all the troublesome GPS biases, and the remaining error is the sum of GPS measurement noises from two satellites. These DD residuals for hours should be sorted by the combination of satellite elevation angles, and then variance value of the residual for each combination can be estimated. Using these values, we construct an over-determined linear equation whose solution is a set of noise variance for each satellite elevation angle. With 24hr Trimble 4000ssi data, we easily worked out the coefficients of the noise model not only for pseudorange but also for carrier phase. We estimated the standard deviation of the measurement DD using our model, and plotted 1 and 3 sigma lines for every epoch to verify the representation of the residual error. 63.3% of pseudorange residual and 65.9% of phase error did not exceed the 1 sigma lines. Additionally, 99.2% and 99.5% of them lied within 3sigma line. These figures prove that the Gaussian property of measurement noise, and that the suggested model by our algorithm corresponds to the observable noise information.

  • The Precise measurement of the knee's Congruence angle is required for diagnosis of patella dislocation. The purpose of this study is to consider the distortion diagram and usefulness about the test of the bilateral side and one side through the evaluating congruence angle from Merchant view of patellofemoral joint to central X-ray. We've evaluated the sulcus angle and Congruence angle following central X-ray's changes when we took Merchant view of patellofemoral joint aimed to right lower limb from human whole body phantom. The subject of the evaluation was classified as normal group and varus group, and the varus group has experimented with External rotation of legs as 15° and 30°. When normal groups result as 0, 7.5, 15 cm, it was measured as 17.25 ± 1.34°, 19.60 ± 1.41°, 20.55 ± 1.77° each. The gap between minimal and maximum angle was 3.3°, and the value was shown as getting bigger when it further away from the centeral X-ray. When Congruence angle in 15° varus group was 0, 7.5, 15 cm, it was each 16.45 ± 1.34°, 17.10 ± 0.99°, 17.80 ± 1.13°. And when Congruence angle in 30° varus group was 0, 7.5, 15 cm, it was measured each 18.35 ± 1.63°, 18.95 ± 1.06°, 19.60 ± 1.41°. The difference between minimum and maximum of angle in 15° varus group and 30° varus group was each 1.35° and 1.25°, the angles have shown as increasing the further away from the center. The patellofemoral joint showed that the congruence angle increases as the further away from Central X-ray, and also it is judged that is possible to change the congruence angle by a degree of varus knee. Thus, accurate measurement of the congruence angle is shown to advantage that methods for examining by split each side at two times than methods for examining both sides at a time. Therefore, it is expected to helpful on the diagnostic side of patella dislocation and subluxation.

  • Since the spine radiography were explained differently at every several hospitals and textbooks. the technique has not been accurately defined and interfered each other. We would like to define the most appropriate positioning for clinical cases, and reference books, by comparing scoliotic angle and lordotic angle. From Mar 2009 to Sep 2011, 85 patient cases were studied, who had not been undergone surgical treatment among spondylopathy patients. Scoliotic angle and lordotic angle were measured, using Cobb's method. We analyzed statistically using t-test(SPSS 18), and evaluated spine general radiography position. Moreover, we researched on the actual condition at 10 university hospitals in Seoul. The results of scoliotic angle measurement, the value at erect position showed 20.98% higher than supine position, and it has statistical significance (p<.01). In lordotic angle measurement, the value at neutral holding position represented 29.3% higher than supine position, and it also has statistical significance(p<.01). The results of clinical survey, supine posine(70.0%) took much higher possession than erect position(30.0%). In conclusion, compare to supine position, erect position shows increased scoliotic and lordotic angle. It was agreed with the importance of clinical erect position radiography, which gravity affects. So clinical radiologist must recognize the difference, and conduct an accurate study.

  • The squat is an exercise that can effectively improve the muscle strength of the lower body, which can be performed in a variety of places without restrictions on places including homes. However, injuries due to incorrect motion or excessive angles are frequently occurring. In this study, we developed a single sensor-based squat angle measurement system that can inform the squat angle according to the correct motion during the squat exercise. The sensor module, including the acceleration sensor and the gyro sensor, is attached to the user's thigh. The squat angle was calculated using the complementary filter complementing the pros and cons of acceleration and gyro sensor. It was found that the calculated squat angle showed the proper correlation compared to the squat angle measured by a goniometer, and the influence of the coefficient of the complementary filter on the accuracy was evaluated.

  • Purpose: To study inter- and intra-observer reliabilities of computerized measurements of the angular parameters of hallux valgus deformity, using two different kinds of software tools for angle measurement on the digital radiography. Materials and Methods: On 35 digital radiographies of standing foot anteroposterior view of hallux valgus, two observers (A, B) independently measured hallux valgus angle (HVA) and 1-2 intermetatarsal angle ($IMA_{1-2}$) twice, using two methods. In method I, an angle was determined from duplicated lines to longitudinal axes made for bisecting line on the target bones with software tool. In method II, an angle was calculated automatically and directly from bisecting lines (longitudinal axes) made on the target bones. We compared two methods using paired t-test to determine significance of differences. Inter- and intraobserver reliabilities were evaluated using the intraclass correlation coefficients (ICC). Results: There were no significant differences between measurements of method I and II for each observer (p>0.05) and intraobserver reliability were good. (ICC>0.9) Inter-observer reliability for method I and II was good of the HVA (ICCs, 0.912 and 0.905) and moderate of the $IMA_{1-2}$ (ICCs, 0.505 and 0.537). There were interobserver differences in HVA of method I and II. Conclusion: No significant difference was found statistically between measurements of method I and II. Both methods I and II would be acceptable to measure angular parameters of hallux valgus deformity.
