In this paper, the correlation of Pressure drop about the Newtonian and non-Newtonian fluid was investigated experimentally for vibrating intravascular lung assist device (VIVLAD) and we determined correlation equation to make a prediction about Pressure drop for designing VIVLAD. Design conditions to predict the pressure drop of the modules were studied through an experimental modeling before inserting the artificial lung assist device into as venous. Experiments were performed by distilled water, glycerol/water mixed solution(40% glycerol) of Newtonian fluids. and the bovine blood of non-Newtonian fluids. These fluids were flowed outside and parallel of hollow fiber membranes. Also we measured pressure drop according to the number of the fiber membranes which ware inserted into the inside diameter of shell of 3 cm, and developed the prediction equations by curve fitting method based on correlation between the experimental pressure drop and the frontal area or the packing density of device. The result showed that the Pressure drop and the friction factor of the water/glycerol mixed solution were similar to that of bovine blood. It was showed that the water/glycerol mixed solution (40% glycerol) could be used for measuring the pressure drop and the friction factor instead of the bovine blood. Also, we could estimate the prediction equation of pressure drop and friction factor as the function of Packing density at the number of hollow fibers. We obtained the reliance of the prediction equations because the pressure drop and the friction factor measured from the experiments were similar to that from the prediction equation. These results may be used to further usefulness for the design of VIVLAD.

This study is to develope the resilient modulus prediction model, which is the function of mean effective principal stress and axial strain, for three types of railroad trackbed materials such as crushed stone, weathered granite soil, and crushed-rock soil mixture. The model consists of the maximum Young's modulus and nonlinear values for higher strain, analogous to dynamic shear modulus. The maximum value is modeled by model parameters, $A_E$ and the power of mean effective principal stress, $n_E$. The nonlinear portion is represented by modified hyperbolic model, with the model parameters of reference strain, ${\varepsilon}_r$ and curvature coefficient, a. To assess the performance of the prediction models proposed herein, the elastic response of a test trackbed near PyeongTaek, Korea, was evaluated using a 3-D elastic multilayer computer program (GEOTRACK). The results were compared with measured elastic vertical displacement during the passages of freight and passenger trains at two locations, whose sub-ballasts were crushed stone and weathered granite soil, respectively. The calculated vertical displacements of the sub-ballasts are within the order of 0.6mm, and agree well with measured values. The prediction models are thus concluded to work properly in the preliminary investigation.
Underwater ambient noise was measured at the eastern and western costal sites of Jeju Island where the water depth was 20 m by a hydrophone moored at mid-depth (10 m) for 4 months. These eastern and western sites were selected as potential sites for offshore wind power generator and the current wave energy generator, respectively. Ambient noise was affected by environmental data such as wind and wave, which were collected from nearby weather stations and an observation station. Below 100 Hz, ambient noise was changed about 5 dB ~ 20 dB due to low and high tide. Below 1 kHz, wave and wind effects were the main source for ambient noise, varying up to 25 dB. Ambient noise was strongly influenced by wave at lower frequency and by wind at higher frequency up to over 1 kHz. The higher frequency range over 10 kHz was influenced by rainfall and biological sources, and the spectrum was measured about 10 dB higher than the peak spectrum level from Wenz curve at this frequency range.

Iron-based soft magnetic materials are widely used as cores, such as transformer transformers, motors, and generators. Reducing losses generated from soft magnetic materials of these applications results in improving energy conversion efficiency. Recently, the new P/M soft magnetic material realized an energy loss of 68 W/kg with a drive magnetic flux of 1 T, at a frequency of 1 kHz, rivaling general-purpose electromagnetic steel sheet in the low frequency range of 200 Hz to 1 kHz. In this research, the effect of rolling parameters on soft magnetic properties of Fe-based powder cores was investigated. The Fe-based soft magnetic plates were produced by the hot powder rolling process after both pure Fe and Fe-4%Si powders were canned, evacuated, and sealed in Cu can. The soft magnetic properties such as energy loss and coercive power were measured by B-H curve analyzer. The soft magnetic properties of rolled sheets were measured under conditions of a magnetic flux density of 1 T at a frequency of 200 kHz. It was found that rolling reduction ratio is the most effective parameter on reducing both energy loss and coercivity because of increasing aspect ratio with reduction ratio. By increasing aspect ratio from 1 to 9 through hot rolling of pure Fe powder, a significant loss reduction of one-third that of SPS sample was achieved.
This study investigated the existing theoretical backgrounds in order to examine the stability control method of lateral flow caused by the Plasticity of soils when unsymmetrical surcharge works on polluted soils and then compared and analyzed the results measured through model tests. Ultimate bearing power of ML and $ML_{p1}$ and $ML_{p2}$ obtained at surcharge(q)-settlement$(S_v)$ curve showed similar trends to ultimate bearing power obtained from control chart of deflection $(S_v-Y_m)$ by Tominaga.Hashimoto, that of $S_v-(Y_m/S_v)$ by Matsuo.Kawamura and that of $(q/Y_m)-q$ by Shibata.Sekiguchi and so it is considered that it has no problem in actual applicability. ${S_v-(Y_m/S_v)}$ of control chart of $ML_{p1}$ by Matsuo.Kawamura showed smaller value than ultimate bearing capacity value from surcharge-settlement curve $(q-S_v)$. Expression of ML of fracture baseline at stability control charge by Matsuo Kawamura is ${S_v=3.21exp}\{-0.48(Y_m/S_v)\}$ and expression of $ML_{p1}$ is ${S_v=3.26exp}\{-0.96(Y_m/S_v)\}$ and expression of $ML_{p2}$ is ${S_v=6.33exp}\{-0.45(Y_m/S_v)\}$.
With advancements in technology of virtual reality, it is used for various purposes in many fields such as medical care and healthcare, but as the same time there are also increasing reports of nausea, eye fatigue, dizziness, and headache from users. These symptoms of motion sickness are referred to as cybersickness, and various researches are under way to solve the cybersickness problem because it can cause inconvenience to the user and cause adverse effects such as discomfort or stress. However, there is no official standard for the causes and solutions of cybersickness at present. This is also related to the absence of tools to quantitatively measure the cybersickness. In order to overcome these limitations, this study proposed quantitative and objective cybersickness evaluation method. We measured 128-channel EEG waves from ten participants experiencing visually stimulated virtual reality. We calculated the relative power of delta and alpha in 11 regions (left, middle, right frontal, parietal, occipital and left, right temporal lobe). Multiple regression models were obtained in a stepwise manner with the motion sickness susceptibility questionnaire (MSSQ) scores indicating the susceptibility of the subject to the motion sickness. A multiple regression model with the highest under the area ROC curve (AUC) was derived. In the multiple regression model derived from this study, it was possible to distinguish cybersickness by accuracy of 95.1% with 11 explanatory variables (PD.MF, PD.LP, PD.MP, PD.RP, PD.MO, PA.LF, PA.MF, PA.RF, PA.LP, PA.RP, PA.MO). In summary, in this study, objective response to cybersickness was confirmed through 128 channels of EEG. The analysis results showed that there was a clearly distinguished reaction at a specific part of the brain. Using the results and analytical methods of this study, it is expected that it will be useful for the future studies related to the cybersickness.

An indoor positioning system using Wi-Fi is essential to produce a radio map that combines the indoor space of two or more dimensions, the information of node positions, and etc. in processing for constructing the radio map, the measurement of the received signal strength indicator(RSSI) and the confirmation of node placement information counsume substantial time. Especially, when the installed wireless environment is changed or a new space is created, easy installation of the node and fast indoor radio mapping are needed to provide indoor location-based services. In this paper, to reduce the time consumption, we propose an algorithm to distinguish the straight and curve lines of a corridor section by RSSI visualization and Sobel filter-based edge detection that enable accurate node deployment and space analysis using cable-type Wi-Fi node installed at a 3 m interval. Because the cable type Wi-Fi is connected by a same power line, it has an advantage that the installation order of nodes at regular intervals could be confirmed accurately. To be able to analyze specific sections in space based on this advantage, the distribution of the signal was confirmed and analyzed by Sobel filter based edge detection and total RSSI distribution(TRD) computation through a visualization process based on the measured RSSI. As a result to compare the raw data with the performance of the proposed algorithm, the signal intensity of proposed algorithm is improved by 13.73 % in the curve section. Besides, the characteristics of the straight and the curve line were enhanced as the signal intensity of the straight line decreased by an average of 34.16 %.

In this paper, we have verified a low-voltage EM(elasto-magnetic) sensing technique for tensile force management of PSC(prestressed concrete) internal tendon in order to apply the technique to actual construction sites where stable power supply is difficult. From observation of past domestic and overseas PSC structural accident cases, it was found that PS tension is very important to maintain structural stability. In this paper, we have tried to measure the tensile force from a magnetic hysteresis curve through EM sensors according to voltage value by using relation between magnetostriction and stress of ferromagnetic material based on elastic-magnetic theory. For this purpose, EM sensor of double cylindrical coil type was fabricated and tensile force test equipment for PS tendon using hydraulic tensioning device was constructed. The experiment was conducted to confirm relationship between changes of permeability and tensile force from the measurement results of the maximum / minimum voltage amount. The change of magnetic hysteresis curve with magnitude of tensile force was also measured by reducing amount of voltage step by step. As a result, the slope of estimation equation in accordance with magnitude of magnetic field decreases with the voltage reduction. But it was confirmed a similar pattern of change of magnetic permeability for the magnetic hysteresis loop. So, in this study, it is considered that it is possible to manage the tensions of PSC internal tendon using EM sensing technique in low-voltage state.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to evaluate possible differences in the location of the inferior alveolar canal in male and female Egyptians. Materials and Methods: This cross-sectional retrospective study involved the evaluation of 210 CBCT scans of Egyptian individuals (18-70 years old). The inferior alveolar canal was localized by measuring 8 linear dimensions: 2 for the vertical localization of the mental foramen (superior and inferior to the mental foramen), 4 at the first molar bifurcation for the vertical and horizontal localization of the inferior alveolar canal (superior, inferior, buccal, and lingual to the inferior alveolar canal), and 2 for the horizontal localization of the mandibular foramen (anterior and posterior to the mandibular foramen). The measurements were statistically analyzed via comparative analysis, stepwise logistic regression, and receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis. Results: Six of the 8 measured distances differed to a statistically significant extent between the sexes. Regression analysis suggested a logistic function with a concordance index of 84%. The diagnostic accuracy capabilities of the linear measurements as sex predictors were calculated using ROC analysis, and the 6 best predictors for sex determination were selected and ranked from highest to lowest predictive power. Moreover, combining these 6 predictors increased the predictive power to 84%. Conclusion: The location of the inferior alveolar canal in the Egyptian population varies significantly by sex; accordingly, this anatomic landmark could be used as a reliable indicator of sexual dimorphism.

A growing interest has emerged in recycling used automobile batteries into energy storage systems (ESSs) to prevent their harmful effects to the environment from improper disposal and to recycle such resources. To transform used batteries into ESSs, composing battery modules with similar performance by grading them is crucial. Imbalance among battery modules degrades the performance of an entire system. Thus, the selection of modules with similar performance and remaining life is the first prerequisite in the reuse of used batteries. In this study, we develop an instrument to measure the impedance spectrum of a battery module to predict the useful remaining life of the used battery. The developed hardware and software are used to apply the AC perturbation to the used battery module and measure its impedance spectrum. The developed instrument can measure the impedance spectrum of the battery module from 0.1 Hz to 1 kHz and calculate the equivalent circuit parameters through curve fitting. The performance of the developed instrument is verified by comparing the measured impedance spectra with those obtained by a commercial equipment.
