PURPOSES : A study on the efforts to minimize the road traffic noise has been underway. An attempt has been made to measure the noise level using a noise map; however, the attempt is limited to certain areas only. In general, a noise barrier is employed to prevent road traffic noise; however, unplanned noise barriers developed without considering the surrounding environment, including excessively high walls, cause problems such as infringement on prospect right. Noise ceiling at daytime in Korea is 68 dB(A), which is relatively higher than in other countries. METHODS: The noise barrier used mainly for road noise reduction was analyzed to estimate the optimal height. Related variables such as road width, the height of the upper part, distance to the building, and angle (for instance, $30^{\circ}$). RESULTS : A formula to calculate the optical height of the noise barrier, considering the road environment (i.e., parameters such as road width and distance to building), was developed in this study in an attempt to mitigate the noise generated from the road. CONCLUSIONS : The formula to calculate the noise barrier is expected to lead to cost saving, accurate installation of barriers, and protection of the right of prospect.
This study aimed to investigate the effect of differing heel height on static balance and muscle activation of ankle joint during standing. Twenty-one young females volunteered to participate in this study. To measure balance function and EMG activity of tibialis anterior and gastrocnemius muscles, the subjects were asked to perform 1-min standing with eyes open and closed state under 3 different heel heights: barefoot, 3cm, and 7cm each. During the standing, postural sway distance and area, and EMG activity of tibialis anterior and gastrocnemius muscles were significantly augmented with increasing heel height (p<0.05). For comparison between eyes open and closed in terms of postural sway area and EMG activity of tibialis anterior muscle, barefoot and 7cm height conditions respectively showed significant differences as well. The findings indicate that high-heeled shoes may have disadvantages in maintaining balance function because of extra-muscular effort of ankle joint. This study provides useful information that will inform future studies on how heel height affects muscle activity around the ankle joint in aspects of static and dynamic balance.
Vertical and horizontal growth occur in the craniofacial complex which ensues continuous changes in facial morphology, until the end of active growth period. Longitudinal study for individual is essential, in the research on growth and development, however, the difficulties in obtaining long term subjects in Korea, the research has been limited. The author analyzed the cephalometric roentgenogrems of 43 boys and 47 girls taken from the ages 6 to 10. The subjects were divided into 3 groups according to SN-MP angle and 2 groups according to gonial angle. In this longitudinal study, 21 variables were measure 4. The obtained results were as follows: 1. SN-MP angle and genial angle had no significant changes in each group with age. 2. With age, facial convexity of hard tissue decreased in all groups, facial angle of hard tissue increased in low SN-MP angle group, but facial convexity of soft tissue had no significant changes in all groups with age. 3. In comparison of high SN-MP angle group and low SN-MP angle group, the former had greater facial convexity and smaller facial angle than the latter. 4. SN-MP angle and the ratio of posterior dental height to anterior dental height had reverse correlation in all groups. 5. High genial angle group revealed larger SN-MP angle, anterior dental height facial convexity, but smaller mandibular length, and the ratio of posterior dental height to anterior dental height compared with low genial angle group.
Production machines have been more important, due to quality level of vehicle motor core is getting higher. That is why, to improve assembly fit of tooling and to be emphasized how much moving down caused of deterioration of high speed press, it is also getting more important parts as solution of problems. To analyze how much move based on condition of movement as tooling and high speed press, and to measure how much impact to embossing height caused of changing movement down. As the result of investigation, in case of material thickness 0.5mm, there is highest pull and force power when emboss height is 0.45mm. If emboss height is less than 0.45mm, pull and force power is getting lower, if emboss height is higher than 0.45mm, it is impossible to make it forming caused of changed press movement, also it has been piercing.

The present study suggests the application of a depth camera for wave height field measurement, focusing on the calibration procedure and test setup. Azure Kinect system is used to measure the water surface elevation, with a field of view of 800 mm × 800 mm and repetition rate of 30 Hz. In the optimal optical setup, the spatial resolution of the field of view is 288 × 320 pixels. To detect the water surface by the depth camera, tracer particles that float on the water and reflects infrared is added. The calibration consists of wave height scaling and correction of the barrel distortion. A polynomial regression model of image correction is established using machine learning. The measurement results by the depth camera are compared with capacitance type wave height gauge measurement, to show good agreement.
The purpose of this is providing a simple, relatively errorless body surface area calculation. Subjects were 10 married women and 10 singles women whose age was 20 to 29 years old. The Gypsum method has applied for the sampling of body surface. The Weight method has been used to measure body surface by means of transferring gypsum shape on uniform plane polypropylene films. In this study, compare analyzed errors between the traditional formulas for measuring body surface area and measuring data in this experiment. More than all, it has been to induce a regression equation for measuring body surface area, which is so simple to calculate with less errors, with variable factors as weight and height. The results of this experiment as follows : 1. In the traditional formulas, weight formula was shown high average error : Niya\`s height formula. which was modified K value as 0.62 in the height formula (S = KH) is shown lower average error than Lassabliere\`s Height formula. 2. In the weight-height formula (S=K √WH), it was shown high average error according to the increasing of K value. Kawanami\`s formula, which 5.378 as K value, was shown low average error both the singles and the married women. 3. Dubois weight-heingt formula (S=W/sup a/·H/sub b/·K) was shown low average error than the weight, height, weight-height (S=K√WH) formula. 4. The regression equations with variable factors as weight and height are 156.74W + 86.05H - 660.25 (Single women) and 136.02W + 90.57H - 6241.32 (Married women) the average error and absolute average error to the singles are 0.09%, 0.94% and resoectively -0.13%, 1.16% for the married women.
Objective: This paper investigates gait changes according to different heel heights and speeds, and the interaction between the effects of the heel height and the speed during walking on stride parameters and joint angles. Furthermore, the relationship among heel height, speed and gait variables is investigated using linear regression. Background: Gait changes by heel height or speed have been studied respectively, but has not been reported whether there is an interaction effect between heel height and speed. It would be necessary to understand how gait changes when a person wears heels in different heights at various speeds, for example, high-heeled walking at fast speed, since it may cause unusual gait patterns and musculoskeletal disorders. Method: Ten females were asked to walk at five fixed cadences (94, 106, 118, 130 and 142 steps/min.) wearing three shoes with different heel heights (1, 5.4 and 9.8cm). Nineteen gait variables were analyzed for stride parameters and joint angles using two-way repeated measure analysis of variance and regression analysis. Results: Both heel height and speed affect movement of ankle, knee, spine and elbow joint, as well as stride length and Double/Single support time ratio. However, there is no significant interaction effect between heel height and speed. The regression result shows linear relationships of gait variables with heel height and speed. Conclusion: Heel height and speed independently affect stride parameters and joint angles without a significant interaction, so the gait variables are linearly amplified or diminished by the two factors. Application: Walking in high heels at fast speed should be careful for musculoskeletal disorders, since the amplified movement of knee and spine joint can lead to increased moment. Also, the result might give insight for animators or engineers to generate walking motion with high heels at various speeds.

Dispersion coefficient preprocessing schemes have been examined to improve plume dispersion model performance in complex coastal areas. The performances of various schemes for constructing the sigma correction order were evaluated through estimations of statistical measures, such as bias, gross error, R, FB, NMSE, within FAC2, MG, VG, IOA, UAPC and MRE. This was undertaken for the results of dispersion modeling, which applied each scheme. Environmental factors such as sampling time, surface roughness, plume rising, plume height and terrain rolling were considered in this study. Gaussian plume dispersion model was used to calculate 1 hr $SO_2$ concentration 4 km downwind from a power plant in Boryeung coastal area. Here, measured data for January to December of 2002 were obtained so that modelling results could be compared. To compare the performances between various schemes, integrated scores of statistical measures were obtained by giving weights for each measure and then summing each score. This was done because each statistical measure has its own function and criteria; as a result, no measure can be taken as a sole index indicative of the performance level for each modeling scheme. The best preprocessing scheme was discerned using the step-wise method. The most significant factor influencing the magnitude of real dispersion coefficients appeared to be sampling time. A second significant factor appeared to be surface roughness, with the rolling terrain being the least significant for elevated sources in a gently rolling terrain. The best sequence of correcting the sigma from P-G scheme was found to be the combination of (1) sampling time, (2) surface roughness, (3) plume rising, (4) plume height, and (5) terrain rolling.

The drawbeads, which is used for controlling the flow of the sheet by imposing the tension and for preventing the springback in the sheet metal forming process, affects a lot the formability because of the differences in the restraint and opening forces according to the drawbead shapes and dimensions. In this study, the experimental device enabling to measure the drawbead restraining and opening forces was manufactured and the drawing forces of circular, square, and step drawbeads are measured. The drawbead restraining and opening forces of a circular drawbead are increased as its drawbead height is increased. Similarly, those of a square drawbead are increased as its height is increased and shoulder radii decreased. Also, those of a step drawbead are increased as its height and difference in their heights are increased.
This paper discusses the influence on long-tenn predictions of the ship response in ocean by using the Global Wave Statistics data, GWS, and wave information from the remote sensing satellites. GWS's standard scatter diagrams of significant wave height and zero-crossing wave period are suggested to be corrected to a round number of 0.01/1000 fitted with a statistical analytic model of the conditional lognormal distribution for zero-crossing wave period. The GEOSAT satellite data are utilized which presented by I. R. Young and G. J. Holland (1996, named as GEOSAT data). At first, qualities of this data are investigated, and statistical characteristic trends are studied by means of applying known probability distribution functions. The wave height data of GEOSAT are compared to the data observed onboard merchant ships, the data observed by measure instrument installed on the ocean-going container ship and so on. To execute a long-tenn prediction of ship response, joint probability functions between wave height and wave period are introduced, therefore long-term statistical predictions are executed by using the functions.
