The study was carried out to investigate the characteristics of vertical velocity distribution measured by current meter at Kangkyung station in Keum river during the period of 1995 to 1997. It suggests the quadratic parabola equation to estimate the vertical velocity profile only from the measurement data of surface velocity. The equation was found to be statistically very stable and showed high significance to express the surface velocity and bottom velocity. The vertical velocity profile was detennined by the relationships to the surface velocity, and a coefficient of the quadratic parabolic equation. The equation was verified to the reserved survey data, and the results were confirmed to be good for the estimation of the characteristics of the vertical velocity distribution. The vertical velocity profile can be applied to calculating the mean velocity and discharge, and to analyse the dispersion of pollutant materials in the streamflow.
This study was conducted to investigate the effects of kinesio taping in patients with degenerative arthritis. 40 female patients with degenerative arthritis were voluntarily recruited and randomly divided into experimental and control group. Experimental group(mean age was 73.4 years, height was 153.5cm, and weight was 59.9kg) was applied patellar inferior and medial gliding, quadriceps, tibial external rotation, gastrocnemius, and soleus using a kinesio tape. And control group(mean age was 72.7 years, height was 154cm, and weight was 58.6kg) was received a interferential current therapy(ENDOMED 582, Enraf-Nonius, Holland). And we received a consent form from all subjects. Measuring was conducted by using a 3-dimensional gait analysis system for measuring of stride length, cadence, and velocity. The results were as follow: Stride length was significantly increased after than before treatment(p<.05). Cadence was significantly increased after than before treatment(p<.05). And Velocity was significantly increased after than before treatment(p<.05). Cadence was a significant difference between experimental and control group(p<.05), but there was no significant difference stride length and velocity between two groups. So we suggest that kinesio taping has a effectiveness in patients with degenerative arthritis.
The flow around free end of a finite circular cylinder(FC) embedded in an atmospheric boundary layer has been investigated experimentally. The experiments were carried out in a closed-return type subsonic wind tunnel with varying aspect ratio of the finite cylinder mounted vertically on a flat plate. The wake structures behind a 2-D cylinder and a finite cylinder located in a uniform flow were also measured for comparison. Reynolds number based on the cylinder diameter was about Re=20,000. A hot-wire anemometer was employed to measure the wake velocity and the mean pressure distributions on the cylinder surface were also measured. The flow past the FC free end shows a complicated three-dimensional wake structure and flow phenomenon is quite different from that of 2-D cylinder. The three-dimensional flow structure was attributed to the downwashing counter rotating vortices separated from the FC free end. As the FC aspect ratio decreases, the vortex shedding frequency is decreased and the vortex formation length is increased compared to that of 2-D cylinder. Due to the descending counter-rotating twin-vortex, in the region near the FC free end, regular vortex shedding from the cylinder is suppressed and the vortex formation region is hardly established. In the wake center region, the mean velocity for the FC located in atmospheric boundary layer has large velocity deficit, compared to that of uniform flow.

In this study, the modification of turbulent boundary layer flow by local wall vibration is investigated. The wall is locally vibrated using a wall deformation actuator, which moves up and down at the frequencies of 100Hz and 50Hz. Simultaneous measurements of the streamwise velocities in the spanwise direction are performed at several wall-normal and streamwise locations using an in-house multi-channel hot wire anemometer and a spanwise hot-wire-probe rake. The mean velocity is reduced in most places due to the wall vibration and its reduced amount becomes small as flow goes downstream. Interestingly, the mean velocity is found to increase very near the wall and near the actuator. This is due to the motion induced by the streamwise vortices which are generated by the downward motion of the actuator. In case of the streamwise velocity fluctuations, their magnitude increases as compared to the unperturbed turbulent boundary layer, and the increased amount becomes small as the flow moves downstream. The modified flow field at the forcing frequency of 50Hz is not much different from that of 100Hz, except the reduced amount of modification.

This paper presents modal analysis and mean conveying velocity (M.C.V.) control of bowl parts feeder activated by piezoactuators. Bowl parts feeders are being widely used in many industry fields for automatic assembly line. In general, the electromagnet has been and being used as exciting actuator of these vibratory bowl feeders. However, because of complexity of its mechanism and limited capability of the electromagnet actuator, there exist various impending problems such as severe noise, nonlinear motion of parts, passive characteristics and so forth. As one of solutions for these problems, piezoelectric actuators as new actuating technology have been proposed recently to excite the bowl parts feeder. In this paper, modal analysis of the proposed model has been performed to examine the modal characteristics of the model by using commercial FEM software and modeling with respects to MCV is constructed. Finally, MCV of the parts is to be controlled to track the desired one with PID controller.
Magnetic resonance velocimetry (MRV) is a versatile flow visualization technique using magnetic resonance imaging machine developed for the medical purpose. Recently, MRV is often utilized to analyze engineering flows due to its superior features of MRV such as capabilities of measuring flows with complicated, opaque flow geometry unlike optical techniques, 3-dimensional volumetric velocity vectors within a few hours, and etc. The purpose of this study was to validate the MRV data and evaluate the accuracy of the mean velocity profiles that we acquired for a turbulent flow in a circular pipe using a MR machine installed in Korea Basic Science Institute, Ochang, Korea. In addition, we briefly describe a procedure of parameter optimization for the operation of MRV. The results indicate that the MRV measurements provided well resolved mean velocity fields with a quite reasonable accuracy according to the inner and outer layer scaling laws of the turbulent pipe flows.
Pulsed ultrasonic Doppler system is a useful diagnostic instrument to measure blood-flow-velocity, velocity profile, and volume-blood-flow. This system is more powerful compare with 2-dimensional B-scan tissue image. A system has been deve- loped and ii being evaluated using TMS 32010 DSP. We use this DSP for the purpose of real-time spectrum analyzer to obtain spectrogram in singlegate pulsed Doppler system and for the serial comb filter to cancel clutter and zero crossing counter to estimate Doppler mean frequency in multigate pulsed Doppler system. The Doppler shift of the backscattered signals is sensed in a phase detector. This Doppler signal corresponds to the mean velocity over a some region in space defined by the ultrasonic beam dimensions, transmitted pulse duration, and transducer ban(iwidth. Multi- gate pulsed Doppler system enable the transcutaneous and simultaneous assessment of the velocities in a number of adjacent sample volumes as a continuous function of time. A multigate pulsed Doppler system processing the information originating from presented.

Average particle deposition velocity toward a horizontal semiconductor wafer in vertical airflow is measured by a wafer surface scanner(PMS SAS-3600). Use of wafer surface scanner requires very short exposure time normally ranging from 10 to 30 minutes, and hence makes repetition of experiment much easier. Polystyrene latex (PSL) spheres of diameter between 0.2 and $1.0{\mu}m$ are used. The present range of particle sizes is very important in controlling particle deposition on a wafer surface in industrial applications. For the present experiment, convection, diffusion, and sedimentation comprise important agents for deposition mechanisms. To investigate confidence interval of experimental data, mean and standard deviation of average deposition velocities are obtained from more than ten data set for each PSL sphere size. It is found that the distribution of mean of average deposition velocities from the measurement agrees well with the predictions of Liu and Ahn(1987) and Emi et al.(1989).
Compressional wave velocity (Vp), shear wave velocity (Vs), elastic and physical properties, and electrical resistivity for two core sediments obtained from Southeastern Yellow Sea Mud (SEYSM) were measured and computed. The sediments consist of homogeneous mud (mostly silt and clay) with shells and shell fragments. As a result, the mean grain size is uniform ($7.5-8.5{\Phi}$ throughout the core sediments. However, physical properties such as wet bulk density and porosity show slightly increasing and decreasing patterns with depth, compared to the mean grain size. The compressional (about 1475 m/s in average) and shear wave (about 60 m/s in average) velocities with depth accurately reflect the pattern of wet bulk density and porosity. Electrical resistivity is more closely correlated with compressional wave velocity than physical properties. The computed Vp/Vs and Poisson's ratios are relatively higher (more than 10) and lower (approximately 0.002) than Hamilton's (1979) data, respectively, suggesting the typical characteristics of soft and fully water-saturated marine sediments. Thus, the Vp/Vs ratio in soft and unconsolidated sediments is not likely sufficient to examine lithology and sediment properties. Relationships between the elastic constant and physical properties are correlated well. The elastic constants (Poisson's ratio, bulk modulus, shear modulus) given in this paper can be used to characterize soft marine sediments saturated with seawater.

Atomization characteristics and spatial distribution of the spray emanating from an injector of liquid-propellant thruster are investigated by using dual-mode phase Doppler anemometry (DPDA). Spray characteristic parameters such as the mean velocity, Sauter mean diameter (SMD), and velocity fluctuation are measured at various locations along the spray axis as well as on the radial direction. Those data are quantified in radial profile and also used to scrutinize the correlation between diameter and turbulence intensity of spray droplets. For the better visual grasp, dynamic behavior of spray droplets along the spray stream is presented through the velocity vectors projected on the plane of geometric axis of nozzle orifice and radial coordinate.
