In this paper, we consider the problem of testing for parameter changes in time series models based on a sequential test. Although the test procedure is well-established for the mean and variance change, a general parameter case has not been discussed in the literature. Therefore, we develop a sequential test for parameter changes in a more general framework.
Background: This study evaluated the efficacy of virtual reality (VR) distraction and counter-stimulation (CS) on dental anxiety and pain perception to local anesthesia in children. Methods: A prospective, randomized, single-blinded interventional clinical trial with a parallel design was used. Seventy children 7-11 years old who required local anesthesia (LA) for pulp therapy or tooth extraction were recruited and allocated to two groups with equal distribution based on the intervention. Group CS (n = 35) received CS and Group VR (n = 35) received VR distraction with ANTVR glasses. Anxiety levels (using pulse rate) were evaluated before, during, and after administration of local anesthesia, while pain perception was assessed immediately after the injection. Wong-Baker faces pain-rating scale (WBFPS), visual analog scale (VAS), and Venham's clinical anxiety rating scale (VCARS) were used for pain evaluation. Student's t-test was used to test the mean difference between groups, and repeated measures ANOVA was used to test the mean difference of pulse rates. Results: Significant differences in mean pulse rates were observed in both groups, while children in the VR group had a higher reduction (P < 0.05), and the mean VCARS scores were significant in the VR group (P < 0.05). Mean WBFPS scores showed less pain perception to LA needle prick in the CS group while the same change was observed in the VR group with VAS scores. Conclusions: VR distraction is better than CS for reducing anxiety to injection in children undergoing extraction and pulpectomy.
The purpose of this study was to determine pH value of some alcoholic drinks sold in Korea and to provide the basic information which can cause dental erosion. Alcoholic drinks commercially sold were purchased from various big markets in Korea. The sorts of drinks tested in this study consisted of 5 brands of beers, 24 brands of makgeollis, 9 brands of wines and 12 brands of sojus. The test groups were selected randomly and the pH of each beverage was determined using a pH meter he each pH was measured. For statistical data, Mann-Whitney test was used to analyze difference for red wine and white wine and Kruskal-Wallis test was used to compare the pH of each test group. The result of this study was as followings: the mean pH of 5 brands of beers was 4.21, that of 24 brands of makgeollis 3.88, of 9 brands of wines 3.34 and of 12 brans of sojus 7.86. Each test group was significantly different (p<0.05). Except for soju groups, the test groups had a low pH value which can cause dental erosion. In terms of comparing between pH value of red wine and white wine, the result of this study represented that the mean pH of red wine was 3.45 and that of white wine was 3.21. This result showed the pH of two kinds of wine had a low pH which can lead to dental erosion and the difference of two wine were significantly different (p<0.05). As a result, some drinks sold in Korea have a high erosive potential on teeth since they have a comparatively low pH expect soju. Hence, when we consume some kinds of alcoholic drinks, we make sure to remember that the alcoholics which had a low pH, can have an effect on dental erosion that mean we should avoid to drink some alcoholic drinks with low pH for long time.
Heights of children ranged from 91.10 to 144.70 and the mean height rate after the administration of Boyangsungjangtang was significantly greater than that, 0.036, of prepuberty children who are in 50 percentile(One sampled T test, p<0.001). A highly significant difference was observed among three groups, divided according to the duration of taking Boyangsungjangtang(ANOVA, p=0.015). Further analysis(Tukey's Multiple Range test) indicated that the mean height rate of the group taking Boyangsungjangtang for under 3 months was significantly higher than that of both group for 3 to 6 months and group for over 6 months. The mean height rate of the latter two groups were not significantly different.
Background: The purpose of this study was to investigate effects of six-week biofeedback training for prevention of falling in elderly persons. Biofeedback training for using the TETRAX system. Methods: Thirty healthy elderly persons(men=17, women=13) who were 79 years of mean age participated in sensory regulation training. They were trained for thirty minutes a day, three times per week. We measured subjects sensory regulated function by TETRAX system, and analyzed mean difference of observed variables by paired t-test between the pre and post test. Results: The first experimental group were significantly difference between pre and post test. The second control group were not significantly between the pre and post test. The third there are significant between group. Conclusion: The results of this study reveal that biofeedback training exercise will improve sensory balance function, and further studies needs to identify which specific factors are related to fall in the elderly population, and it is expected this study may contribute in reducing fall and therapeutic exercise in falling.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to explore family function, social support, perceived quality of life(QOL) in adolescent period and to find out the correlations between family function, social support, perceived QOL in adolescents. Method: The questionnaire to get some information for this study consisted of adolescents'general characteristics, 20 questions regarding family function, 11 questions regarding social support, 8 questions regarding perceived QOL in adolescents. The subjects of this study consisted of 128 adolescents who were living in S area. The data were analyzed by percentage, mean, t-test, ANOVA and Pearson's correlation using the WINSPSS program. Result: The mean score for family function was 3.07(max. : 5) and there was significant difference according to middle-high school student. The mean score for social support was 2.86(max : 5) and there was no significant difference. The mean score for perceived QOL was 4.02(max score: 7) and there was significant difference according to disease condition. There was a positive correlation between family function, social support, perceived QOL in adolescents. Conclusion: Consequently, the development of program, policy assistance and policy implementation to elevate juveniles' perceived quality of life is strongly required.
In order to improve the cryopreservatory techniques of livestock embryos, the quick freezing method which is directly plunged in liquid nitrogen via prefreezing procedure without freezing machine was carried out for mouse embryos treated with permeable and nonpermeable cryoprotectants. The viability of frozen-thawed embryos were evaluated by FDA vital dye test. The results obtained was summaried as follows: 1. A total of 720 embryos were recovered from frozen embryos for viability test. Evalution of the fluorescein diacetate(FDA) vital dye test with mice embryos were resulted of 2.3 total mean score - evaluted in orderly higher mean grade of P3 453 (63%), P2 133(18%), P1 51(7%) and P0 83(12%). 2. An all-round evalution of these combination, the highest viability was showed in 3M ethylene glycol + 0. 25M trehalose treated with the copper prefreezing. 3. Effects of permeable and nonpermeable cryoprotectants combination were evaluated by means FDA score. 3M ethylene glycol + 0.25M trehalose showed the highest survival rates of 2.8 mean FDA score. 4. Effects of permeable cryoprotectants were evaluated by mean FDA score but the results were not significantly different each other. 5. In evalution of the nonpermeable cryoprotectants, 0. 25M trehalose obtalned higher mean FDA score than of 0.25M sucrose and it was significantly different(P<0.05). 6. There was no significantly difference between copper and stainless-steel in prefreezing procedures.
The Study was carried out for the purpose of investigating the degree of perception in nursing activities. The data of this study were collected by self-reported questionnaire composed of 5 point rating scale measure the ideal level and the performance level of nurses activity. For the analysis of the data, percentage, MANOVA and ANOVA were 231 nurses in 3 general hospitals in Taegu. Data was administrated from October 4 through 14, 1994. The results were as follow : 1. The average mean score for the ideal level was 4.19 with a maximum possible score 5points. The highest mean score was Infection Controll and the lowest mean score was nutrition The average mean score for the performance level was 3.75, the highest mean score was fluid and electrolyte, the lowest mean score was nutrition. In the analysis of the relationship between the ideal level and th performance level, significant defference was found in age, position, career, marital status, occupation satisfaction, Nursing unit, parent. 3. Observations were made on the blood picture of total 196 heads of healthy Korean cattles, including 98 males and females in the purpose of determination of blood chemical values and their sex differences and seasonal variations during one year period from December, 1963 to November, 1964. The blood sampling were scheduled by random in four different seasons and the sample size of both sex included in each season were designated to be same size. The ranges, averages or mean values of the blood glucose, total serum protein, serum globulin, serum albumin, total non-protein nitrogen, blood urea nitrogn, total serum cholesterol, serum inorganic phosphorus and serum calcium were determined in this studies and their respective standard deviation, standard error of means, sex differences and seasonal variations were as follows. 1. The blood glucose values for the male ranged from 32.8 to 70.0 mg/100cc. with a mean of $49.781{\pm}0.823mg/100cc$; for the female the range was 32.0 to 64.0mg/100cc. with a mean of $47.235{\pm}0.782mg/100cc$. Sex difference showed significant at 5% level and seasonal variation was highly significant at 1% level. 2. The total serum protein values for the male ranged from 5.61 to 8.83 gm/100cc with a. mean of $7.366{\pm}0.062gm/100cc$; for the female ranged from 5.53 to 8. 43 gm/100cc. with a mean of $6.832{\pm}0.063gm/100cc$. Sex difference and seasonal variation was not significant. 3. The serum globulin values for the male ranged from 2.97 to 4.78 gm/100cc. with a mean of $3.961{\pm}0.039gm/100cc$.; for the female ranged from 2.87 to 4.41 gm/100cc. with a mean of $3.699{\pm}0.037gm/100cc$. Sex difference showed highly significant at 1% level and seasonal variation was not significant. 4. Sex difference was not significant and seasonal variation showed highly significant at 1 % level. 7. The total serum cholesterol values for the male ranged from 60.0 to 238.6 mg/100cc. with a mean of $140.897{\pm}2.826mg/100cc$.; for the female ranged from 50.0 to 243.0 mg/100cc. with a mean of $124.840{\pm}3.553mg/100cc$. Sex difference and seasonal variation showed highly significant at 1% level. 8. The serum inorganic phosphorus values for the male ranged from 3.5 to 7.8 mg/100cc. with a mean of $5.426{\pm}0.096mg/100cc$.; for the female ranged from 3.1 to 8.8 mg/100cc. with a mean of $5.570{\pm}0.128mg/100cc$. Sex difference and seasonal variation showed no significant. 9. The serum calcium values for the male ranged from 7.8 to 12.8 mg/100cc. with a mean of $10.761{\pm}0.102mg/100cc$.; for the female ranged from 8.0 to 13.0 mg/100cc. with a mean of 10. $756{\pm}0.097mg/100cc$. Sex difference was not significant and seasonal variation showed highly significant at 1% level. 10. The age of test group ranged from 2 years to 6 years in both sex and the averageage were, $4.45{\pm}0.114$ years in male and $4.50{\pm}0116$ years in female. Sex difference and seasonal variation of age were not found to be significant.
Purpose : This was aimed to investigate the effects of empirical smoking prevention program on the knowledge of the harmfulness of smoking, attitude to smoking, smoking temptation among female high school students. Methods : This study used nonequivalent control group pre and post test design. The subjects were recruited from the first and second grade at the two girls' high schools located in Ulsan city, and randomly assigned to two groups(113 in the experimental group and 117 in the control). The intervention was both the events such as nonsmoking promulgation and experiential learning programs and student-oriented educational sessions(once a week for six weeks). Data was analyzed with X2 test, t-test and ANCOVA. Results : The mean knowledge was 12.5 for pretest and 13.7 for posttest in the experimental group, and 12.7 and 13.4 in the control group, retrospectively. The mean attitude was 71.0 for pretest and 72.2 for posttest in the experimental group, and 72.3 and 72.6 in the control group, retrospectively. The mean temptation was 15.0 for pretest and 14.7 for posttest in the experimental group, and 13.9 and 14.0 in the control group, retrospectively. There's no difference in the change of the knowledge of the harmfulness of smoking, attitude to smoking, smoking temptation between experimental and control groups. Conclusion : As the possible reasons, the subjects already had sufficient knowledge on the harmfulness of smoking, the research questionnaires were too plain to get any difference, the effect of intervention was too small to show a difference in such as short-term, and finally, there were many external factors. Hence, we recommend further studies with appropriate questionnaire for longer time.
