  • In this paper, we discuss on the optimal design scheme of the bilayer OLED (Organic Light Emitting Diodes) with micro-cavity structure. We carried out the optical simulation on the OLED device and calculated optimal scale of devices with taking the micro-cavity effect into account. Our emission model is based upon an ensemble of radiating dipole antennas. Consequently, we applied Maxwell's equation to this sequence, followed by the analysis on the electrical behaviors of OLED device using Poisson's equation. It contains carrier injection and transportation mechanism. In this process, we found out the thickness of each layer can affect the recombination rate at the emission layer. Therefore, we optimized the thickness of each layer to improve the efficiency of the device.

  • Based on classical Berotti discrete iron loss calculation model, the iron loss analysis mathematical model of alternator was proposed in this paper. Considering characteristics of high speed and changing frequency of the alternator, Maxwell 3-D model was built to analyze iron loss corresponding to each running speed in alternator. Based on iron loss model of alternator at rated speed, the rotor claw pole size was made an optimization design. The optimization results showed that alternator's output performance had been improved. A new idea was explored in size optimization design of claw pole alternator.

  • Direct-acting solenoid valves are used in the automotive industry due to their simple structure and quick response in controlling the flow of fluid. We performed an optimization study of response time in order to improve the dynamic performance of a direct-acting solenoid valve. For the optimal design process, we used the commercial optimization software PIAnO, which provides various tools for efficient optimization including design of experiments (DOE), approximation techniques, and a design optimization algorithm. 35 sampling points of computational experiments are performed to find the optimum values of the design variables. In all cases, ANSYS Maxwell electromagnetic analysis software was used to model the electromagnetic dynamics. An approximate model generated from the electromagnetic analysis was estimated and used for the optimization. The best optimization model was selected using the verified approximation model called the Kriging model, and an optimization algorithm called the progressive quadratic response surface method (PQRSM).

  • Computational fluid dynamics analysis was carried out for thermo-chemical flow field in Arcjet thruster with mono-propellant Hydrazine ($N_2$H$_4$) as a working fluid. The theoretical formulation is based on the Reynolds Averaged Navier-Stokes equations for compressible flows with thermal radiation. The electric potential field governed by Maxwell equation is loosely coupled with the fluid dynamics equations through the Ohm heating and Lorentz force. Chemical reactions were assumed being infinitely fast due to the high temperature field inside the arcjet thruster. An equilibrium chemistry module for nitrogen-hydrogen mixture and a thermal radiation module for optically thin media were incorporated with the fluid dynamics code. Thermo-physical process inside the arcjet thruster was understood from the flow field results and the performance prediction shows that the thrust force is increased by amount of 3 times with 0.6KW arc heating.

  • We analyze the intensity characteristics of the output beams of the ring laser, in which only one mode is generated in each direction, within the neoclassical model by using the Maxwell-Bloch equation. Considering the Nd:YAG crystal as a gain medium, we investigate the stability and the modulation of the output beam intensity as the pumping rate, the relaxation or the decay rate, and the frequency detuning vary, upon taking into account the effect of the beam in one beam in one direction onto the beam in the other direction. In particular, we examine the variation of the output beam intensity and the stability condition through a computer simulation.

  • In this paper, the characteristics of IPMSM(Interior-type Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor) are simulated using 2-D. finite element method. This paper deals with the following characteristics : air gap flux density considering skew, back e.m.f., torque and inductance. Back e.m.f. is calculated using the flux obtained from the vector potential of FEM solution. Torque is calculated using improved Maxwell stress tensor method and current angle which is obtained from the controller. Direct axis inductance and quadrature axis inductance are also calculated using energy perturbation method. Computed results are found in satisfactory agreement with experimental ones. This method also can be applied for the computation and analysis of the characteristics of SPMSM, current-excited synchronous motor and reluctance motor.

  • When current flows through a thick conductor such, most of the current flows along outside of the conductor, which is called skin effect. This paper represents a method calculating such a current distribution in the conductor region. The conductor region is divided into some pieces and each piece has its own unknown variable, i.e. current density. The governing equation which expresses Maxwell's equation is combined with the circuit equation with voltage source. The combined equation is solved to obtain current distribution in the conductor. This algorithm is applied to EMC(Electromagnetic Casting) to calculate current density with voltage source.

  • In this paper, a method of canceling and suppressing differential mode crosstalk noise signals caused by non-uniform coupling between two transmission lines in UTP (unshielded twisted pair) modular jacks is discussed. Differential mode crosstalk noise signals in balanced transmission lines with UTP modular jacks were suppressed, by applying field cancellation techniques to this modular jack. To verify an effectiveness of the field cancellation techniques, 8 pin modular jacks were made, and the NEXT (Near End Crosstalk) losses were measured to prove its applicability by the network analyzer(HP8720C) at 100 Mb/s.

  • The present paper develops piezo-thermo-elastic analysis of a thick spherical shell for generalized functionally graded piezoelectric material. The assumed structure is loaded under thermal, electrical and mechanical loads. The mechanical, thermal and electrical properties are graded along the radial direction based on a power function with three different non homogenous indexes. Primarily, the non homogenous heat transfer equation is solved by applying the general boundary conditions, individually. Substitution of stress, strain, electrical displacement and material properties in equilibrium and Maxwell equations present two non homogenous differential equation of order two. The main objective of the present study is to improve the relations between mechanical and electrical loads in hollow spherical shells especially for functionally graded piezoelectric materials. The obtained results can evaluate the effect of every non homogenous parameter on the mechanical and electrical components.

  • Hysteretic behavior model of soft magnetic material usually used in electrical machines and electronic devices is necessary for numerical solution of Maxwell equation. In this study, a new dynamic hysteresis model is presented, based on the nonlinear dynamic system identification from measured data capabilities of fuzzy clustering algorithm. The developed model is based on a Gustafson-Kessel (GK) fuzzy approach used on a normalized gathered data from measured dynamic cycles on a C core transformer made of 0.33mm laminations of cold rolled SiFe. The number of fuzzy rules is optimized by some cluster validity measures like 'partition coefficient' and 'classification entropy'. The clustering results from the GK approach show that it is not only very accurate but also provides its effectiveness and potential for dynamic magnetic hysteresis modeling.
