The ethylene propylene diene terpolymer (EPDM) blends with styrene butadiene rubber (SBR) were prepared from an open 2-roll mill following the conventional rubber blend method, and then cure characteristics, mechanical properties and ozone resistance were subsequently examined. With incorporation of SBR the torque value of the EPDM and SBR blends showed a gradual increase in the cure curve. The maximum torque value was obtained with lowest level at 25wt% of SBR and it was increased linearly with more than 25wt%. As the SBR loading increased scorch time and optimum cure time decreased. Hardness represented a maximum at 50wt% of SBR. However upper and lower than that value it decreased. It was found that the unfavorable characteristics of ozone resistance of pure SBR was significantly improved through the blending of SBR with EPDM.
Thrust is one of the important performance characteristics of an AUV. At the design stage, the resistance of an AUV at its maximum speed is estimated and then the thrust system is designed, including the propeller diameter, propeller rpm, driving system, and required power. However, it is not possible to be certain that the thrust system has been correctly designed until the AUV is launched and its speed is measured. If data from a propeller open-water test is available, the thrust and torque of the propeller at a certain speed can be estimated. In addition, if the motor's torque characteristics are available, the maximum speed saturated by the induced propeller torque can be estimated. In this paper, an easy technique for estimating the maximum speed of an AUV will be shown, even in a case where additional resistance is gained from appendages not considered at the design stage. Furthermore, the thrust performance changes by adjusting the diameter of the propeller can be easily investigated.

Three models with various degree-of-freedom for a manual transmission clutch full-size tester have been developed and the models' reliability and accuracy have been verified using the measured data. A simulation study has also been conducted to understand dynamic behavior of the tester. The model for this simulation study includes clutch disk friction and damper dynamics. The developed model is very accurate in terms of maximum torque exerted on the clutch, slip duration and the vibration response except a slight difference compared to the measured data. In a history graph of the clutch torque, the maximum torque response from simulation is flat but the measured is sunken with a noticeable curvature. This phenomenon is found to be irrelevant to the dynamics of the full-size tester but is originated from the characteristics of the clutch itself. Thus, the full-size tester has been proven to be a reliable tester for clutch's power and torque transmission capability. To obtain a better understanding of clutch's characteristics and relationship between full-size tester and other testing methodologies, future research directions have been suggested.
The DC(Direct-Current) servo motor has widely used for many application areas, FA(Factory Automation), OA(Office Automation) and home applications. But DC servo motor needs periodical inspection because it has brush and commutator. Recently, AC servo motor has expanded it's application areas due to for the development of the power semi-conductor and control technology. But it has large torque ripple for it's small number of commutation. And it also has cogging torque due to permanent magenet rotor. Therefore it can't run balence rotarion. Many torque ripple reduction methods are published. In this paper, phase advanced method adopted for torque ripple reduction of AC servo motor. In this research, AC servo motor torque characteristic variation surveied under the phase advance control through the computer simulation. Under the simulation, the load inertia varied from 0.0001[Kg.m$^{2}$] to 0.0314[Kg.m$^{2}$]. The result os nonlinear simulation, torque and speed ripple of AC servo motor under the phase advance control reduced approximately 50[%] and 10[%]. And maximum torque of AC servo motor under phase advance control condition increased about 5[%] as compare with fixed switching time.

This article describes the analysis of stable grasping for multi-fingered robot. An analysis method of stable grasping, which is based on the three-dimensional acceleration convex polytope, is proposed. This method is derived from combining dynamic equations governing object motion and robot motion, force relationship and acceleration relationship between robot fingers and object's gravity center through contact condition, and constraint equations for satisfying no-slip conditions at every contact points. After mapping no-slip condition to torque space, we derived intersected region of given torque bounds and the mapped region in torque space so that the intersected region in torque space guarantees no excessive torque as well as no-slip at the contact points. The intersected region in torque space is mapped to an acceleration convex polytope corresponding to the maximum acceleration boundaries which can be exerted by the robot fingers under the given individual bounds of each joints torque and without causing slip at the contacts. As will be shown through the analysis and examples, the stable grasping depends on the joint driving torque limits, the posture and the mass of robot fingers, the configuration and the mass of an object, the grasp position, the friction coefficients between the object surface and finger end-effectors.

This paper is to present a new method of cogging torque reduction for axial flux PM machines of multiple rotor surface mounted magnets. In order to start softly and to run a power generator even the case of weak wind power, reduction of cogging torque is one of the most important issues for a small wind turbine, Cogging torque is an inherent characteristic of PM machines and is caused by the geometry shape of the machine. Several methods have been already applied for reducing the cogging torque of conventional radial flux PM machines. Even though some of these techniques can be also applied to axial flux machines, manufacturing cost is especially higher due to the unique construction of the axial flux machine stator. Consequently, a simpler and low cost method is proposed to apply on axial flux PM machines. This new method is actually applied to a generator of 1.0kW, 16-poles axial flux surface magnet disc type machine with double-rotor-single-stator for small wind turbine. Design optimization of the adjacent magnet pole-arc which results in minimum cogging torque as well as assessment of the effect on the maximum available torque using 3D Finite Element Analysis (FEA) is investigated in this design. Although the design improvement is intended for small wind turbines, it is also applicable to larger wind turbines.

The goal of this research is to verify a performance test system for a low speed, high torque, and harsh reducer at low cost. The reducer rotates a cooling fan with a diameter of 10 meters, in a high temperature (50℃) cooling tower in a geothermal power plant. It requires about 500 kgf·m torque and 47.75 kW power to rotate the fan at a maximum power condition. An expensive dynamometer is commonly used for performance test of a motor or a reducer. In this paper, a low cost system is developed using a hydraulic pump as a load unit to generate torque instead of a dynamometer. We accurately calculated the required power, the flow meter, and the pressure of the pump, and selected to design and optimize the system at minimal cost. The system also applied another reverse reducer and a gearbox to increase the rotational speed and to reduce the torque from the low speed and high torque target reducer. This allows low-cost systems to be built using inexpensive components. The developed system was able to successfully measure the high torque and the low rotational speed of the target reducer at high temperature.

It is common knowledge amongst electrical and marine engineers that short-circuit in electrical system may cause large mechanical torque on generator and prime mover However, it is not so widely known that the faulty synchronizing of generators may cause even higher torques than that of short-circuit. In this study, the transient phenomena related to the parallel running of synchronous generators are analyzed and the exact computer simulation method is proposed. In result, maximum transient torque and current take place in case of $120^{\circ}$ voltage angle difference between Master and Slave and that may develop higher torque than the short-circuit according to a condition of synchronizing. When synchronizing in power system using only two generators higher torque and current occur Master, but using multimachine system those occur to Slave. The short-circuit of marine generator does not happen frequently but faulty synchronizing sometimes takes place, therefore, it is necessary for designers to consider these phenomena.

The Ultrasonic motor(USM) has many good characteristics such as high torque at low speed range, large holding torque based upon frictional force, high speed response, flexible free ferns, compactness in size, low magnetic noise and silentness in motion. Because of having low speed rotation, USM is good as an actuator of a small size direct drive (DD) manipulator. The acturators for the DD manipulators must have good controllability on the speed and torque from zero to maximum value continuously. New method was developed for speed and torque control by the phase difference control of the two-phase driving signals of the motor. Then rule adjustable compliant and dumped motion was realized on the output shaft of the motor by PD control of the output shaft angle.
This paper describes the result of structure analysis and load test of torque arm for driving gear unit. The purpose of the analysis and test is to evaluate an safety which torque arm shall be considered fully sufficient rigidity so as to satisfy proper system function under maximum load. Driving gear unit consist of gearbox and torque arm. Both components, torque arm is significant component subjected to the vehicle and motor loads. The evaluation methode is used the FEM analysis, static and fatigue test. The test results have been very safety and stable for design load conditions.
