Peroxidase as one of the organic enzyme catalyst is useful for the oxidation treatment of various aromatic compounds such as phenols. The peroxidase content of Oenanthe javanica was 24.85 unit/g-fw in leaf, 5.74 unit/g-fw in stem, and 34.69 unit/g-fw in root respectively. The crude peroxidase extracted from Oenanthe javanka can be kept under low temperature (-70$\circ$C) condition for 6 months with the maximum 1% activity reduction. The optimum conditions of removal for 100 ppm phenol was pH 6, hydrogen peroxide 3.5 mM, peroxidase activity 8 unit/ml, temperature 20$\circ$C respectively. In the wide range of concentration from 50 ppm to 750 ppm phenol reveals average 54% removal rate under the same peroxidase activity (8 unit/ml) and different amount of hydrogen peroxide proportional to phenol concentration. Especially at the concentration of 100 ppm the maximum phenol removal rate was 72%.
The possibility of using carica papaya leaf powder for removal of copper from wastewater as a low cost adsorbent was explored. Different parameters that affect the adsorption process like initial concentration of metal ion, time of contact, adsorbent quantity and pH were evaluated and the outcome of the study was tested using adsorption isotherm models. A maximum of 90%-94.1% copper removal was possible from wastewater having low concentration of the metal using papaya leaf powder under optimum conditions by conducting experimental studies. The biosorption of copper ion was influenced by pH and outcome of experimental results indicate the optimum pH as 7.0 for maximum copper removal. Copper distribution between the solid and liquid phases in batch studies was described by isotherms like Langmuir adsorption and Freundlich models. The adsorption process was better represented by the Freundlich isotherm model. The maximum adsorption capacity of copper was measured to be 24.51 mg/g through the Langmuir model. Pseudo-second order rate equation was better suited for the adsorption process. A dynamic mode study was also conducted to analyse the ability of papaya leaf powder to remove copper (II) ions from aqueous solution and the breakthrough curve was described by an S profile. Present study revealed that papaya leaf powder can be used for the removal of copper from the wastewater and low cost water treatment techniques can be developed using this adsorbent.
The possibility of application of membrane type immobilized adsorbent to the fed-batch or perfusion culture system with anchorage-independent cells as well as batch system was investigated. The improvement in cell density and cell viability due to the combination of immobilized adsorbent with each culture system was evaluated for the investigation, and the optimum culture system employing immobilized adsorbent system was suggested based on the results. It was observed that the system with immobilized adsorbent showed better cell growth and cell viability than that without immobilized adsorbent in every operation system of batch, fed-batch, and perfusion. In case of batch system, 200% improvement of maximum cell density was observed in the system where ammonium chloride was added on purpose. And 50% improvement of maximum cell density was observed in the fed-batch system where ammonium ion accumulates significantly, while small increase in maximum cell density was observed in the perfusion system where dilution of waste byproducts exists. Especially, the fed-batch system showed the most significant improvement on cell growth because both compensation of nutrient and removal of ammonium ion occurred simultaneously in the system. Therefore a combined system of immobilized adsorbent and fed-batch operation could be suggested as an optimum system with in situ removal of ammonium ion.
To investigate factors affecting the removal of phosphorus from the practical wastewater in the F-STEP PROCESS using a loess ball and Chromobacterium WS 2-14, first, the loess ball size and calcining temperature, initial pH, initial phosphorus concentration, working temperature, and aeration were studied. A $2\~4mm$ of loess ball made at $960^{\circ}C$ of calcining temperature was the most suitable one for the removal of phosphorus. When the initial pH was increased from 3.0 to 6.0, the removal efficiency of phosphorus was increased. Especially, at 6.0 of initial pH, the maximum removal efficiency of phosphorus was $88.7\%$. The maximum removal efficiency of phosphorous was gained, 1.8mg/h when the initial concentration of phosphorous was 5.0mg/1. When the operating temperature was $30^{\circ}C$, the maximum removal efficiency of phosphorus was obtained. In the case of aeration, when it was increased from 0.5 to 5.0L/min, the removal efficiency of phosphorus was increased. On the other hand, above 7.0 L/min, the removal efficiency of phosphorus did not increased. Using the optimum operation conditions, pilot tests for the effective removal efficiency of phosphorus were carried out for 65 days. The average removal efficiency of phosphorus was $92.0\%$. The average removal efficiency of COD, BOD, and SS were 77.1, 74.2, and $86.4\%$, respectively. from the results, it can be concluded that F-STEP PROCESS using loess ball might be useful process for phosphorus removal.
This study compared the performance of a bioscrubber, a biofilter, and a combined system of bioscrubber and biofilter employed being operated at the laboratory-scale. for the removal of hydrogen sulfide. The bioscrubber maintained 100% removal of hydrogen sulfide up to inlet load of $56\;g-S/m^3{\cdot}hr$, while the removal efficiency was decreased with the increase of inlet load. The biofilter showed 100% removal efficiency up to inlet load of $126\;g-S/m^3{\cdot}h$ and the maximum elimination capacity of $126\;g\;S/m^3{\cdot}h$ for the inlet load of $224\;g-S/m^3{\cdot}h$. On the other hand, the combined system of bioscrubber and biofilter showed 100% removal for an inlet hydrogen sulfide load of up to $85\;g-S/m^3{\cdot}h$ and the maximum elimination capacity of $153\;g-S/m^3{\cdot}h$ for inlet loads of $224\;g-S/m^3{\cdot}h$.
Objective: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of length and shape of cutting flute on mechanical properties of orthodontic mini-implants. Methods: Three types of mini-implants with different flute patterns (Type A with 2.6 mm long flute, Type B with 3.9 mm long and straight flute, Type C with 3.9 mm long and helical flute) were inserted into the biomechanical test blocks (Sawbones Inc., USA) with 2 mm and 4 mm cortical bone thicknesses to test insertion and removal torque. Results: In 4 mm cortical bone thickness, Type C mini-implants showed highest maximum insertion torque, then Type A and Type B in order. Type C also showed shortest total insertion time and highest maximum removal torque, but Type A and B didn't showed statistically significant difference in insertion time and removal torque. In 2 mm cortical bone thickness, there were no significant difference in total insertion time and maximum removal torque in three types of mini-implants, but maximum insertion torque of Type A was higher than two other Types of mini-implants. Conclusions: Consideration about length and shape of cutting flute of mini-implant is also required when the placement site has thick cortical bone.
The separation performance of a low-pressure hydrocyclone (LPH) was evaluated for suspended-solids removal in a recirculating aquaculture system (RAS). The dimensions of the LPH were 335 mm cylinder diameter, 575 mm cylinder height, 60 mm overflow diameter, 50 mm underflow diameter, and $68^{\circ}$ cone angle. The inflow rate varied (400, 600, 800, and 1,000 mL $s^{-1}$) with 25%, 25%, 20%, and 10% of bypass ($R_f$), respectively. The maximum total separation efficiency (Et) and reduced separation efficiency (E't) for suspended solids from the effluent of the second settlement tank (before biofiltration) were 58.9% and 45.2%, respectively, at an inflow rate of 600 mL $s^{-1}$ and 25% of $R_f$. The maximum Et and E't for suspended solids from the water supply channel (after biofiltration) were 24.4% and 16%, respectively, at an inflow rate of 1,000 mL $s^{-1}$ and 10% of $R_f$. The maximum grade efficiency (Ei) was 51.6% for a 300 ${\mu}m$ particle size at an inflow rate of 600 mL $s^{-1}$ with 23% of $R_f$. The maximum reduced grade efficiency (E'i) was 37.6% for a 300 ${\mu}m$ particle size at an inflow rate of 1,000 mL $s^{-1}$ with 11% of $R_f$. The results indicate that the separation performance of the LPH for suspended solids removal was size selective and that maximum removal occurred at particle sizes ranging from 300 to 500 ${\mu}m$.
This study was performed to assess the removal efficiency on nitrogen, phosphorus and organic carbon in wastewater by spatial separation and internal recycling in a modified oxidation ditch process (modified OD). The performances of the modified OD were evaluated via laboratory-scale experiments. The process was operated at hydraulic retention times of 6-48 hours and solid retention times of 17-38 days. We found that organic carbon removal efficiency increased after the modified OD operation period. T-N removal efficiency remained stable; average T-N concentration of effluent was 8.02 mg/l after modified OD operation. In contrast, T-P concentration of effluent was over 1 mg/l. Nitrogen and phosphorus removal efficiency of modified OD at HRT 12 hr were 83.1% and 74.1%, respectively. Also, maximum efficiency was found at SRTs from 20 to 30 days. T-N removal efficiency was 83.1% at a C/N ratio from 3.0 to 3.5. However, T-N removal efficiency decreased at C/N ratios over 3.5. Also, T-P removal efficiency increased with HRT at C/P ratios in the same condition. Maximum efficiency was 74.1% at a C/P ratio from 25 to 28. T-N removal efficiency was 79.2% and T-P removal efficiency was 65.3% after M4 mode operation (added to the internal recycle line connected to the anoxic reactor). The modified OD with spatial separation and internal recycling developed in this study is, therefore, believed to be an improvement for solving problems in the nutrient removal technologies.

This paper presents an algorithm to deternine the tool path height for rough machining of sculptured surface. To minimize rough machining of sculptured surface, it is necessary to determine the tool path heights of contour planes. the proposed algorithm searches for the height at which maximum metal removal rate is obtained. This bisection method is accomplished until all shoulder heights are within roughing tolerance. The machining experiment demonstrates the superiority of the algorithm presented in this thesis.
In this study, a comparative removal of chlorine from aqueous solutions of mulberry leaf powder(MLP) and activated carbon(AC) was investigated. The chlorine removal capacities of MLP and AC were shown as a function of contact time, pH and initial chlorine concentration. Optimum contact time and removal pH value of MLP were determined as 2 hr and pH 10, respectively. Chlorine removal increased with increasing initial chlorine concentration up to 1.3g/L. Both Langmuir and Freundlich adsorption models were suitable for describing the short-term removal of chlorine by MLP and AC. According to Freundlich adsorption isotherms, the maximum removal capacity of MLP(0.264 mg Cl$_2$/mg) was nearly two times greater than that of AC(0.56 mg Cl$_2$/mg). These results suggested that MLP might potentially be used as an alternative to traditional water treatment materials for removal of residual chlorine in drinking water or process wastewater.
