  • Quality of cut is strongly dependent on the cutting pressure, so this relationship can be identified by pressure measuring system. In this paper, the experiments presented were performed with the devised pressure measuring system and the laser cutting of STS 304. Convergent type and convergent-divergent type nozzle were used for pressure variation of the distance between nozzle and workpiece. In laser cutting of STS 304, 1.0 kW CO $\_$2/ laser used. The convergent type nozzle(1.0 mm diameter) pressured above 3 kgf/cm $\^$2/, the MSD(Mach Shock Disk) created, which caused the the pressure variations of the distance between nozzle and workpiece. The maximum cutting pressure exists in accordance with the variation of distance. In spite of far distance the maximum cutting pressure is achieved by using the pressure measuring system. The higher cutting pressure beneath the workpiece the less quantity of dross and the kerf width. Since the higher cutting pressure helps to remove the quantity of dross and to stop the exothermic energy into the material. The optimum laser cutting parameter of STS 304(2.0 mm thickness) with the convergent type nozzle(1.0 mm diameter)is 0.75 mm and 2.5 mm distance between nozzle and workpiece, 4 kgf/cm $\^$2/ cutting pressure. In 3.0 mm thickness case, 1.5 mm and 2.25 mm distance is achieved for good quality.

  • This paper aims to determine the optimal location of expressway patrol vehicle stations that minimizes additional troubles caused by the delay of crash treatments. To do this, we formulate a maximum covering problem and a p-center problem weighted by crash frequency, using the shortest distance as the criteria for allocating service district, and we employ the Lagrangian relaxation algorithm to solve the former and Daskin's heuristic algorithm to solve the latter, respectively. Based on crash data of Korean expressways, the results from the proposed models are compared with the current location of patrol vehicle stations by using several indices as the level of service for crash treatment, such as maximum crash-weighted distance, average crash-weighted distance, and average access distance. The results show that the proposed models improve average access distance and time by about 10km and 10min, respectively. When allocation for service district is changed only with the fixed current location, the level of service can be also improved. The models and results proposed in this paper can contribute to improving the level of service for crash treatment on expressways. They can also provide the theoretical basis on the location decision for other various emergency facilities, and the allocation decision for floating service districts according to time-period crash data.

  • In this paper, we have designed and implemented a system that utilizes a radar sensor to measure distance between a sensor and objects. The sensor module creates raw data and uploads the data on the distance measuring system, which detects the presence of objects by using standard deviation and average filters. The experiment found that an algorithm using average filters measured people with error rates of up to 9.7 meters and a maximum error rate of 0.02 meters or less. While in an algorithm using standard deviations, it was found that an object is measured at an error rate of up to a maximum distance of 9.7 meters and a maximum error rate of 0.15 meters. Therefore, we have concluded that if a distance was measured by using a radar sensor, algorithms using average filters resulted in a higher accuracy than standard deviations filters.

  • This paper presented a adaptation approach based on maximum model distance (MMD) method. This method shares the same framework as they are used for training speech recognizers with abundant training data. The MMD method could adapt to all the models with or without adaptation data. If large amount of adaptation data is available, these methods could gradually approximate the speaker-dependent ones. The approach is evaluated through the phoneme recognition task on the TIMIT corpus. On the speaker adaptation experiments, up to 65.55% phoneme error reduction is achieved. • We show that large subsets of vector spaces over finite fields determine certain point configurations with prescribed distance structure. More specifically, we consider the complete graph with vertices as the points of $A{\subseteq}F^d_q$ and edges assigned the algebraic distance between pairs of vertices. We prove nontrivial results on locating specified subgraphs of maximum vertex degree at most t in dimensions $d{\geq}2t$.

  • PURPOSE. The purpose of this study was to determine the average facial proportions and mandibular movement capacity of 316 first-year dental students who carefully recorded them on each other. MATERIALS AND METHODS. This early exacting clinical experience was closely supervised by the authors in Columbus, Ohio during 1969-70. Five vertical and six horizontal distances were measured on each subject's face. An ala-tragus line and an occlusal line were drawn on the left side of the face to determine if these two lines were parallel. Measurements of mandibular movements involved maximum normal and hinge opening at the incisors and maximum amounts of right, left lateral and protrusive excursions of the mandible. RESULTS. The ala width and distance between the tips of upper right and left canine cusps averaged (35.2 mm and 34.8 mm) but with very large individual variations. The distance between ala to occlusal plane lines was 29.9 mm at the tragus and 31.3 mm near the ala. The angle between orbitale and ala-tragus averaged 13.6 degrees. CONCLUSION. The upper lip length was the most variable and the distance between the pupils was the most stable of the eleven facial measurements. The ala-tragus line and the occlusal plane lines were for all practical purposes parallel. Maximum jaw opening averaged 51.2 mm which was 3.0 times larger than maximal hinge opening of 17.2 mm. The maximum right plus left side jaw excursions (9.2 and 9.4 mm) totaled 18.6 mm, 2.3 times more than the 8.0 mm mean maximum forward protrusion.

  • A study is to predict the effective pulsing distance following to the pulsing pressure, nozzle diameter, filtration velocity using numercial analysis techniques and use it as an efficient operation condition and economic data for on-line type pulse air jet bag filter. Filtration area 6 m2 condition, calculate filter resistance coefficient for simulation through the primary experiments using coke dust. For CFD simulation, analysis pulsing characteristics about nozzle diameter, filtration velocity and pulsing pressure. The maximum pulsing length of on-line type pulse air jet bag filter, in 10mm nozzle, filtration velocity 1.5m/min and pulsing pressure 5 bar conditions, is 2,285 mm, maximum length is 76.2% of the total filter bag, which is sufficient to pulsing. In 12mm nozzle, pulsing pressure 5 bar and filtration area 1.22 m2 conditions, the maximum pulsing length of on-line type pulse air jet bag filter is 1,744~2,952 mm, and the maximum length is 2,952 mm indicates pulsing air can be reached to the bottom of filter bag. When the nozzle diameter is increased 8mm to 10mm, maximum pulsing length is extended 40~47%, and increased 10mm to 12 mm, maximum pulsing length is extended 10~17%. For effective pulsing, over the 5bar of pulsing pressure and larger than 10 mm of nozzle diameter are required.
