The knock characteristics in an engine were investigated under homogeneous charge compression ignition (HCCI) operation. Liquefied petroleum gas (LPG)and gasoline were used as fuels and injected at the intake port using port fuel injection equipment. Di-methyl ether (DME) was used as an ignition promoter and was injected directly into the cylinder near compression top dead center (TDC). A commercial variable valve timing device was used to control the volumetric efficiency and the amount of internal residual gas. Different intake valve timingsand fuel injection amounts were tested to verify the knock characteristics of the HCCI engine. The ringing intensity (RI) was used to define the intensity of knock according to the operating conditions. The RI of the LPG HCCI engine was lower than that of the gasoline HCCI engine at every experimental condition. The indicated mean effective pressure (IMEP) dropped when the RI was over 0.5 MW/m2and the maximum combustion pressure was over 6.5MPa. There was no significant relationship between RI and fuel type. The RI can be predicted by the crank angle degree (CAD) at 50 CA. Carbon monoxide (CO) and hydrocarbon (HC) emissions were minimized at high RI conditions. The shortest burn duration under low RI was effective in achieving low HC and CO emissions.

A fuel cell vehicle has the hydrogen detection sensors for checking the hydrogen leakage because it use hydrogen for its fuel and can't use a odorant to protect the fuel cell stack. To verify the hydrogen safety of leakage we select the high possible leak points of fittings in hydrogen storage system and test the leaking behavior at them. The hydrogen leakage flow rate is 10, 40, 118 NL/min and the criterion for maximum hydrogen leakage is based on allowing an equivalent release of combustion energy as permitted by gasoline vehicles in FMVSS301. There are total 18EA hydrogen leakage detection sensors installed in test system. we acquire the hydrogen leakage detection time and determine the ranking. Hydrogen leakage detection time decrease when hydrogen leakage flow rate increase. The minimum hydrogen leakage detection time is about 3 seconds when the flow rate is 118NL/min. In this study, we optimize hydrogen sensor position in fuel cell vehicle and verify the hydrogen leakage safety because there is no inflow inside the vehicle.

In this paper the flow dynamics of the flue gas equipment in the desulfurization system was numerically analyzed by simulating the problems for the turbulent and combustion flow from Induced Draft Fan(I.D.Fan) outlet to Booster Up Fan(B.U.Fan) inlet using the commercial CFD software of CFD-ACE+ in CFDRC company for Computational Fluid Dynamic Analysis. The guide vane of this section was examined for the minimum pressure loss and the uniform flow dynamic to B.U.Fan with the proper velocity from I.D,Fan exit to B,U,Fan inlet section at the boiler both the maximum continuous rating and the design base. The guide vanes at I,D.Fan outlet and B.U.Fan inlet were removed and modified by numerical simulation of the CFD analysis. The flue gas at the system had the less pressure loss and the uniform flow dynamics of the flow velocity and flow line by comparing with the old design equipment.

Amid growing global damage due to abnormal weather caused by global warming, the introduction of eco-friendly cars is accelerating to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from internal combustion engines. Accordingly, many studies are being conducted in each country to prepare for the explosion of hydrogen fuel in semi-closed spaces such as tunnels and underground parking lots to ensure the safety of hydrogen-electric vehicles. As a result of predicting the explosion pressure of the hydrogen tank using the equivalent TNT model, it was found to be about 1.12 times and 2.30 times higher at a height of 1.5 meters, respectively, based on the case of 52 liters of hydrogen capacity. A review of the impact on the human body and buildings by converting the predicted maximum explosive pressure into the amount of impact predicted that all predicted values would result in lung damage or severe partial destruction. The predicted degree of damage was applied only by converting the amount of impact caused by the explosion, and considering the additional damage caused by the explosion, it is believed that the actual damage will increase further and safety and disaster prevention measures should be taken.

The shipbuilder's requirement for a higher power output rating has led to the development of a super large two stroke low speed diesel engines. Usually a large-sized bore engine ranging from $8{\sim}14$ cylinders, this engine group is capable of delivering power output of more than 100,000 bhp at maximum continuous rating(mcr). Other positive aspects of this engine type include higher thermal efficiency, reliability, durability and mobility. This plays a vital role in meeting the propulsion requirement of vessels, specifically for large container ships, of which speed is a primary concern to become more competitive. Consequently, this also resulted in the modification of engine parameters and new component designs to meet the consequential higher mean effective pressure and higher maximum combustion pressure. Even though the fundamental excitation mechanisms unchanged, torsional vibration stresses in the propulsion shafting are subsequently perceived to be higher. As such, one important viewpoint in the initial engine design is the resulting vibration characteristic expected to prevail on the propulsion shafting system(PSS). This paper investigated the torsional vibration characteristics of these super large engines. For the two node torsional vibration with a nodal point on the crankshaft, a tuning damper is necessary to reduce the torsional stresses on the crankshaft. Hence, the tuning torsional vibration damper design and compatibility to the shafting system was similarly reviewed and analyzed.

This paper treats with the history and current trends in the developments of liquid-propellant rocket engine in Russia and Ukraine which are among world leaders in the technology of liquid rocket engine(LRE). In 1960s formerly the Soviet Union accepted the closed cycle engine for increasing the pressure in the combustion chamber and specific impulse to the maximum. However, since financially difficult times after 1990, they have decreased the cost for the development of new rocket engines. It was achieved by using existing units for new developed engines and minimizing the total number of engines and tests through the reasonable planning in the process for the experimental improvement of LRE. In addition, nowadays international cooperation in supplying LRE for commercial rocket and development of next generation LRE, such as 3 components engines and mathane engines, are proceeding.

In this study, the numbers, sizes of particles from a single cylinder direct injection spark-ignition (DISI) engine fuelled with gasoline and LPG are examined over a wide range of engine operating conditions. Tests are conducted with various engine loads (2~10bar of IMEP) and fuel injection pressures (60, 90, and 120 bar) at the engine speed of 1,500 rpm. Particles are sampled directly from the exhaust pipe using rotating disk thermodiluter. The size distributions are measured using a scanning mobility particle sizer (SMPS) and the particle number concentrations are measured using a condensation particle counter (CPC). The results show that maximum brake torque (MBT) timing for LPG fuel is less sensitive to engine load and its combustion stability is also better than that for gasoline fuel. The total particle number concentration for LPG was lower by a factor of 100 compared to the results of gasoline emission due to the good vaporization characteristic of LPG. Test result presents that LPG for direct injection spark ignition engine help the particle emission level to reduce.
Hydrogen is usually produced by using syngas generated by the fuel reforming for natural gas so far. The further process is needed for increasing the hydrogen yield of syngas. However, the process for upgrading the hydrogen yield is accompanied by additional energy sources and economic costs. Thus related studies on the method for using as a mixture in itself have been conducted in order to utilize more efficiently syngas. The effect on the engine performance for methane/syngas mixture of 30kW spark ignition gas engine for power generation has been investigated in this study. As a result, it was found that the combustion phenomena such as the maximum in-cylinder pressure and crank angle at that time have been improved by methane/syngas mixture. Through these, fuel conversion efficiency could be enhanced by about 98% of methane/hydrogen mixture and $NO_x$ emissions could be reduced by about 12% of methane-hydrogen mixture.
The purpose of this study is preventing the stick, scuffing, scratch between piston and cylinder in advance, and obtaining data for duration test in actual engine operation. The temperature gradient in cylinder bore according to coolant temperature were measured using $1.5{\ell}$ class diesel engine. 20 thermocouples were installed 2mm deep inside from cylinder wall near top ring of piston in cylinder block, at which points major thermal loads exist. It is suggested as proper measurement points for engine design by industrial engineers. Under full load and $70^{\circ}$, $80^{\circ}C$ and $90^{\circ}C$ coolant temperature conditions, the temperature in cylinder block and engine oil increased gradually according to the increase of coolant temperature, the siamese side temperature of top dead center is $142^{\circ}C$ in peripheral distribution, that is about $20^{\circ}C$ higher than that at thrust, anti-thrust, and rear side temperature, respectively. The maximum pressure of combustion gas in $70^{\circ}C$ coolant temperature is about 2 bar lower than those of $80^{\circ}C$ and $90^{\circ}C$ coolant temperature. The engine torque in $80^{\circ}C$, $90^{\circ}C$ coolant temperature condition is about 4.9Nm higher than that of $70^{\circ}C$ coolant temperature.

Syngas, also known as synthesis gas, synthetic gas, or producer gas, is a combustible gas mixture generated when organic material (biomass) is heated in a gasifier with a limited airflow at a high temperature and elevated pressure. The present research was aimed at modifying the existing LPG engine generator for fully operated syngas. During this study, the designed gasifier-powered woodchip biomass was used for syngas production to generate power. A 6.0 kW LPG engine generator was modified and tested for operation on syngas. In the experiments, syngas and LPG fuels were tested as test fuels. For syngas production, 3 kg of dry woodchips were fed and burnt into the designed downdraft gasifier. The gasifier was connected to a blower coupled with a slider to help the air supply and control the ignition. The convection cooling system was connected to the syngas flow pipe for cooling the hot produce gas and filtering the impurities. For engine modification, a customized T-shaped flexible air/fuel mixture control device was designed for adjusting the correct stoichiometric air-fuel ratio ranging between 1:1.1 and 1.3 to match the combustion needs of the engine. The composition of produced syngas was analyzed using a gas analyzer and its composition was; 13~15 %, 10.2~13 %, 4.1~4.5 %, and 11.9~14.6 % for CO, H2, CH4, and CO2 respectively with a heating value range of 4.12~5.01 MJ/Nm3. The maximum peak power output generated from syngas and LPG was recorded using a clamp-on power meter and found to be 3,689 watts and 5,001 watts, respectively. The results found from the experiment show that the LPG engine generator operated on syngas can be adopted with a de-ration rate of 73.78 % compared to its regular operating fuel.
