  • This paper deals with robust control problems of linear systems with matched nonlinear uncertainties. In order to handle the uncertainties, a Lyapunov min-max control approach can usually be adopted. By the way, the min-max control input is required to be switched and provokes chattering phenomena which limit the practical implementation. The magnitude of switching control input which cause chattering is dependent on the size of uncertainties. In this paper, it is shown that the magnitude of the min-max control input can be made small using a well-known disturbance observer technique and only considers the disturbance observing errors. The chattering phenomena can be reduced as small as possible by selecting a high diturbance observer gain. The simulations show that the min-max control with a disturbance observer can reduce chattering phenomena much smaller and guarantee much better robust performance rather than the one without a disturbance observer.

  • It was to adjust the luminance of light by the rotation angle of the polarizes and analyzer. The luminance value Lmax, Lmin of Contrast Sensitivity could be obtained from the rotation angle ${\theta}_m$ of the average luminance($L_m$), the rotation angle(${\theta}_{max}$, ${\theta}_{min}$) of the maximum and the minimum's amplitude. $$L_{max}=I(0)e^{-2at}{\cdot}cos^2{\theta}_m(1+C_s^{-1})$$ $$L_{min}=I(0)e^{-2at}{\cdot}cos^2{\theta}_m(1-C_s^{-1})$$ We obtained the rotation angle(${\theta}_{max}$, ${\theta}_{min}$) of the polarizes and analyzer from the rotation angle ${\theta}_m$ of the average luminance($L_m$) and the Contrast Sensitivity($C_s$). $${\theta}_{max}=cos^{-1}[cos{\theta}_m{\cdot}(1+C_s^{-1})^{1/2}]$$ $${\theta}_{min}=cos^{-1}[cos{\theta}_m{\cdot}(1-C_s^{-1})^{1/2}]$$.

  • Online analytical processing (OLAP) systems are introduced to support decision support systems. Many researches focussed on efficient processing of aggregate functions that usually occur in OLAP queries. However, most previous researches in the literature are deal with the situation in which aggregate functions arc applied to all the values in a given range. Since those approaches utilize characteristic of aggregate functions applied to a range, they are difficult to be applied to a muitipoint query that is a query considering only some points in a given range. In this paper, we propose the Ranking Index and the flanking Decision Tree (RDT) for efficient evaluation of multipoints MAX/MIN queries. The ranking of possible MAX/MIN values are computed with RDT Then MAX/MIN values can be acquired from the Ranking Index. We show through experiments that our method provides high performance in most situations. In other words, the proposed method is robust as well as efficient. A single common set of precomputed results for both MAX and MIN values is another advantage of the proposed method.

  • In object analysis by image processing, finding lines plays a universal role. And these lines can be easily found by detecting ridges and valleys in digital gray scale images. In this paper, a new method of detecting ridges and valleys by using local min/max operations was presented. This method detects ridges and valleys of desired width by using erosion and dilation properties of local min/max operations, and requires no information of ridge or valley direction. Therefore the method is efficient and computationally simple in comparision with the conventional analytical method.

  • A new gray-scale thinning algorithm using local min/max operations is proposed. In this method, erosion and dilation properties of local min/max operations are using for generating new rides and detecting ridges in gray scale image, and gray-scale skeletons are gradually obtained by accumulating the detected ridges. This method can be applicable to the unsegmented image in which object are not specified, and the obtained skeletons correspond to the ridges (high gray values) of an input image.

  • When the bandwidth resources in a packet-switched network are shared among sessions by MAX-MIN flow control each session is required to transmit its data into the network subject to the MAX-MIN fair rate which is solely determined by network loadings. This passive behavior of sessions if fact can cause seri-ous QoS(Quality of Service) degradation particularly for real-time multimedia sessions such as video since the rate allocated by the network can mismatch with what is demanded by each session for its QoS. In order to alleviate this problem we extend the concept of MAX-MIN fair bandwidth allocations as follows: Individual bandwidth demands are guaranteed if the network can accommodate them and only the residual network band-width is shared in the MAX-MIN fair sense. On the other hand if sum of the individual bandwidth demands exceeds the network capacity the shortage of the bandwidth is shared by all the sessions by reducing each bandwidth guarantee by the MAX-MIN fair division of the shortage. we present a novel flow control algorithm to achieve this extended MAX-MIN fairness and show that this algorithm can be implemented by the existing ATM ABR service protocol with minor changes. We not only analyze the steady state asymptotic stability and convergence rate of the algorithm by appealing to control theories but also verify its practical performance through simulations in a variety of network scenarios.

  • Computed tomography, which obtains section images from reconstruction process using projection images, has been applied to various fields. The spatial resolution of the reconstructed image depends on the device used in CT system, the object, and the reconstruction process. In this paper, we investigates the effect of the number of projection images and the pixel size of the detector on the spatial resolution of the reconstructed image under the parallel beam geometry. The reconstruction program was written in Visual C++, and the matrix size of the reconstructed image was $512{\times}512$. The numerical bar phantom was constructed and the Min-Max method was introduced to evaluate the spatial resolution on the reconstructed image. When the number of projections used in reconstruction process was small, artifact like streak appeared and Min-Max was also low. The Min-Max showed upper saturation when the number of projections is increased. If the pixel size of the detector is reduced to 50% of the pixel size of the reconstructed image, the reconstructed image was perfectly recovered as the original phantom and the Min-Max decreased as increasing the detector pixel size. This study will be useful in determining the detector and the accuracy of rotation stage needed to achieve the spatial resolution required in the CT system.

  • The purpose of this research is to suggest a model or method of needs analysis for designing syllabuses. As the learner-centered approach in teaching and learning methods becomes general, the learners' needs or wants should be reflected on the syllabus design. However, standardized scores in the previous research have disadvantages to be distorted in data interpretations because the difference between the maximum value and minimum value is so big compared to the Likert 5 scales. To solve this disadvantage, the Max-Min method is used in the needs analysis for the syllabus design. So, the differences are presented. Needs analyses need to be selected variously according to situations. Thus, further researches are needed to develop several new methods as well as the Max-Min method or the standardized score method for the whole needs analyses.
