  • The design of learning environments which encourage students to work in a creative manner on mathematical problems is a creative process in itself. The concept of the Saturday University program is described in which pre-service teachers are guided at teaching students in extra-curriculum activities on interdisciplinary topics.   • The purpose of this paper is to find role of in and logic in creative problem solving process. Intuition and logic have played an important role in creative problem solving process. Nevertheless, Intuition has been treated less importantly than logic. Therefore, I intend to review the role of intuition, and then the relationship of intuition and logic, and the role of intuition and logic in creative problem solving process. Although intuition gives an important clue in problem solving process, it may sometimes cause an error. This fact gives an idea that intuition and logic have to be harmoniously cultivated. In fact, Intuition and logic have been playing a complementary role in creative problem solving process. A creative learner is regarded as a mathematician of his age. It must be through intuition and logic that he/she solves the problem creatively, just as a mathematician invents the new mathematical fact through unconscious and conscious process. In this respective, teachers also should make every effort to cultivate intuition and logic themselves.

A Survey of Teachers' Perspectives on Process-Focused Assessment in School Mathematics (수학적 과정 중심 평가에 대한 교사들의 인식 조사)

  • The recent Korean mathematics curriculum stresses to teach mathematics focusing on mathematical process composed of problem solving, reasoning and communication. To be successful in applying the rationale of the process-focused mathematics education, the assessment practice in classrooms should be also centered on mathematical process. In this study we conducted a large-scale survey on teachers' perspectives about the process-focused mathematics assessment. First, we surveyed teachers' opinion on current assessment practices in school mathematics related to regular school exams and performance assessments. Second, we investigated teachers' perception on mathematical process components such as problem solving, reasoning, and communication regarding how they should be assessed. Finally, we examined the difference of teachers' opinion according to their teaching experience, city size, and the type of school. Based on the results, we discussed implications for mathematics assessment and process-focused mathematical assessment.

  • The purpose of this study is to compare the process of mathematical modeling in mathematical modeling class according to group organization, and to investigate whether it shows improvement in mathematical reasoning ability. A total of 24 classes with 3 mathematical modeling activities were designed to investigate the research problem. The result of this study showed that the heterogeneous groups performed better than the homogeneous groups in terms of both the performance ability of mathematical modeling and mathematical reasoning ability. This study implies that, with respect to group design for applying mathematical modeling in teaching mathematics, heterogeneous group design would be more efficient than homogeneous group design.

  • For the maximum partial sum of linear process generated by a doubly infinite sequence of identically distributed $\rho$-mixing random variables with mean zeros, a complete convergence is obtained under suitable conditions.
