  • The objective of this study is to develop a knowledge-based scheduler applying simulation and knowledge base. This study utilizes a machine induction to build knowledge base which enables knowledge acquisition without domain expert. In this study, the best job dispatching rule for each order is selected according to the specifications of the order information. And these results are built to the fact base and knowledge base using the attribute-oriented induction method and simulation. When a new order enters in the developed system, the scheduler retrieves the knowledge base in order to find a matching record. If there is a matching record, the scheduling will be carried out by using the job dispatching rule saved in the knowledge base. Otherwise the best rule will be added to the knowledge base as a new record after scheduling to all the rules. When all these above steps finished the system will furnish a learning function.

  • An efficient corner matching algorithm is developed to minimize the amount of calculation. To reduce the amount of calculation, all available information from a corner detector is used to make model. This information has uncertainties due to discretization noise and geometric distortion, and this is represented by fuzzy rule base which can represent and handle the uncertainties. Form fuzzy inference procedure, a matched segment list is extracted, and resulted segment list is used to calculate the transformation between object of model and scene. To reduce the false hypotheses, a vote and re-vote method is developed. Also an auto tuning scheme of the fuzzy rule base is developed to find out the uncertainties of features from recognized results automatically. To show the effectiveness of the developed algorithm, experiments are conducted for images of real electronic components.

  • Packet classification is an important factor to support various services such as QoS guarantee and VPN for users in Internet. Packet classification is a searching process for best matching rule on rule tables by employing multi-field such as source address, protocol, and port number as well as destination address in If header. In this paper, we propose hardware based packet classification algorithm by employing tree bitmap of multi-bit trio. We divided prefixes of searching fields and rule into multi-bit stride, and perform a rule searching with multi-bit of fixed size. The proposed scheme can reduce the access times taking for rule search by employing indexing key in a fixed size of upper bits of rule prefixes. We also employ a marker prefixes in order to remove backtracking during searching a rule. In this paper, we generate two dimensional random rule set of source address and destination address using routing tables provided by IPMA Project, and compare its memory usages and performance.

  • In the active databases, whenever an event occurs, active rules with the matching event specifications are triggered automatically, its action will be executed. Because these rules may in turn trigger other rules including themselves, the set of rules may be executing each other indefinitely. These problem can be solved by rule termination analysis, and it is efficient for the rule termination to execute in compile time of rule. In this paper we not only design rule compiler with rule termination analyzer, but also propose its execution model and algorithm. The completeness of proposed model is verified by algorithm formalization of rule termination analysis.

  • This paper introduces computerized version of Hangout(Korean Language) Standard Pronunciation Rule that can be used in Korean processing systems such as Korean voice synthesis system and Korean voice recognition system. For this purpose, we build Petri net models for each items of the Standard Pronunciation Rule, and then integrate them into the vocal sound conversion table. The reversion of Hangul Standard Pronunciation Rule regulates the way of matching vocal sounds into grammatically correct written characters. This paper presents not only the vocal sound conversion table but also character conversion table obtained by reversely converting the vocal sound conversion table. Making use of these tables, we have implemented a Hangeul character into a vocal sound system and a Korean vocal sound into character conversion system, and tested them with various data sets reflecting all the items of the Standard Pronunciation Rule to verify the soundness and completeness of our tables. The test results shows that the tables improves the process speed in addition to the soundness and completeness.

  • In this paper, a knowledge base editor is presented as a supporting environment for an expert system building tool, OPS5. The knowledge base editor is especially useful for the fast and easy development of a knowledge base when the OPS5 production language is used. This knowledge base editor has some special facilities such as syntax and type checking, rule browsing and automatic bokkeeping. The syntax and type checking provides the facilities to find syntax and type errors in an edited knowledge base, respectively. The rule browsing facility offers various pattern matching schemes to see the causes and effects of a concerned rule. Automatic bookkeeping keeps the updated date and user name of a rule for the later reference whenever a user adds or changes a rule.

  • Context-aware services recognize the context of situation environments of users and provide useful services according to the context for users. Usual rule-based systems can be used for context-aware services with the specified rules that express context information and operations. This paper proposes a light-weight rule engine that minimizes memory consumption for resource-constrained smart things. The rule engine manages rules at the minimum condition level, removes memories for intermediate rule matching results, and uses hash tables to store rules and context information efficiently. The implemented engine is verified using a rule set of a mouse training system and experiment results shows the engines consumes very little memory compared to the existing Rete algorithm with some sacrifice of execution time.

  • As a representative area-decomposed algorithm, an area-based quad-trie (AQT) has an issue of search performance. The search procedure must continue to follow the path to its end, due to the possibility of the higher priority-matching rule, even though a matching rule is encountered in a node. A leaf-pushing AQT improves the search performance of the AQT by making a single rule node exist in each search path. This paper proposes a new algorithm to further improve the search performance of the leaf-pushing AQT. The proposed algorithm implements a leaf-pushing AQT using a hash table and an on-chip Bloom filter. In the proposed algorithm, by sequentially querying the Bloom filter, the level of the rule node in the leaf-pushing AQT is identified first. After this procedure, the rule database, which is usually stored in an off-chip memory, is accessed. Simulation results show that packet classification can be performed through a single hash table access using a reasonable sized Bloom filter. The proposed algorithm is compared with existing algorithms in terms of the memory requirement and the search performance.

  • In this paper, we propose a matrix based real-time pattern matching method, called MDPI, for real-time intrusion detection on several Gbps network traffic. Particularly, in order to minimize a kind of overhead caused by buffering, reordering, and reassembling under the circumstance where the incoming packet sequence is disrupted, MDPI adopts independent partial matching in the case dealing with pattern matching matrix. Consequently, we achieved the performance improvement of the amount of 61% and 50% with respect to TCAM method efficiency through several experiments where the average length of the Snort rule set was maintained as 9 bytes, and w=4 bytes and w=8bytes were assigned, respectively, Moreover, we observed the pattern scan speed of MDPI was 10.941Gbps and the consumption of hardware resource was 5.79LC/Char in the pattern classification of MDPI. This means that MDPI provides the optimal performance compared to hardware complexity. Therefore, by decreasing the hardware cost came from the increased TCAM memory efficiency, MDPI is proven the cost effective high performance intrusion detection technique.

  • Like CPUs, regular expression processors that perform regular expression pattern matching using instructions have been proposed recently. Of these, only REMPc provides features for character class matching. In this paper, we propose an architecture for efficient character class matching in a regular expression processor, which use character class bitmap format in a instruction operand field and implement the hard-wired character class comparator for several frequently used character classes. Using the proposed method, most of the character classes used in Snort rule can be represented by an operand or an instruction. Thus, character class matching can be performed more efficiently in the proposed archiecture than in REMPc.
