This tutorial paper has been written for biologists, physicians or beginners in fuzzy sets theory and applications. This field is introduced in the framework of medical diagnosis problems. The paper describes and illustrates with practical examples, a general methodology of special interest in the processing of borderline cases, that allows a graded assignment of diagnoses to patients. A pattern of medical knowledge consists of a tableau with linguistic entries or of fuzzy propositions. Relationships between symptoms and diagnoses are interpreted as labels of fuzzy sets. It is shown how possibility measures (soft matching) can be used and combined to derive diagnoses after measurements on collected data. The concepts and methods are illustrated in a biomedical application on inflammatory protein variations. In the case of poor diagnostic classifications, it is introduced appropriate ponderations, acting on the characterizations of proteins, in order to decrease their relative influence. As a consequence, when pattern matching is achieved, the final ranking of inflammatory syndromes assigned to a given patient might change to better fit the actual classification. Defuzzification of results (i.e. diagnostic groups assigned to patients) is performed as a non fuzzy sets partition issued from a "separating power", and not as the center of gravity method commonly employed in fuzzy control. It is then introduced a model of fuzzy connectionist expert system, in which an artificial neural network is designed to build the knowledge base of an expert system, from training examples (this model can also be used for specifications of rules in fuzzy logic control). Two types of weights are associated with the connections: primary linguistic weights, interpreted as labels of fuzzy sets, and secondary numerical weights. Cell activation is computed through MIN-MAX fuzzy equations of the weights. Learning consists in finding the (numerical) weights and the network topology. This feed forward network is described and illustrated in the same biomedical domain as in the first part.

In this paper, a novel dual-band power amplifier using metamaterials has been realized with one RF GaN HEMT diffusion metal-oxide-semiconductor field effect transistor. The CRLH TL can lead to metamaterial transmission line with the dual-band tuning capability. The dual-band operation of the CRLH TL is achieved by the frequency offset and the nonlinear phase slope of the CRLH TL for the matching network of the power amplifier. We have managed only the second- and third-harmonics to obtain the high efficiency with the CRLH TL in dual-band. Also, the proposed power amplifier has been realized by using the harmonic control circuit for not only the output matching network, but also the input matching network for better efficiency. Two operating frequencies are chosen at 900 MHz and 2140 MHz in this work. The measured results show that the output power of 39.83 dBm and 35.17 dBm was obtained at 900 MHz and 2140 MHz, respectively. At this point, we have obtained the power-added efficiency (PAE) and IMD of 60.2 %, -23.17dBc and 67.3 %, -25.67dBc at two operation frequencies, respectively.

This paper presents a two-stage power amplifier MMIC using a $0.4{\mu}m$ GaN-HEMT process. The two-stage structure provides high gain and compact circuit size using an integrated inter-stage matching network. The size and loss of the inter-stage matching network can be reduced by including bond wires as part of the matching network. The two-stage power amplifier MMIC was fabricated with a chip size of $2.0{\times}1.9mm^2$ and was mounted on a $4{\times}4$ QFN carrier for evaluation. Using a downlink LTE signal with a PAPR of 6.5 dB and a channel bandwidth of 10 MHz for the 2.6 GHz band, the power amplifier MMIC exhibited a gain of 30 dB, a drain efficiency of 32%, and an ACLR of -31.4 dBc at an average output power of 36 dBm. Using two power amplifier MMICs for the carrier and peaking amplifiers, a Doherty power amplifier was designed and implemented. At a 6 dB back-off output power level of 39 dBm, a gain of 24.7 dB and a drain efficiency of 43.5% were achieved.

This paper presents a 868/915 MHz CMOS RF transceiver for the ZigBee application. Using a switchless matching network, the off chip switch is removed to achieve the low cost RF transceiver, and by the elimination of the switch's insertion loss we can achieve the benefits for the RF receiver's noise figure and transmitter's power efficiency at the given output power. The receiver is composed of low-noise amplifier, mixer, and baseband analog(BBA) circuit. The transmitter is composed of BBA, mixer, and driver amplifier. And, the integer N type frequency synthesizer is designed. The proposed ZigBee RF full transceiver is implemented on the $0.18{\mu}m$ CMOS technology. Measurement results show that the maximum gain and the noise figure of the receiver are 97.6 dB and 6.8 dB, respectively. The receiver consumes 32 mA in the receiver mode and the transmitter 33 mA in the transmission mode.
The Optical Wide-field patroL-Network (OWL-Net) is a global optical network for Space Situational Awareness in Korea. The primary operational goal of the OWL-Net is to track Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellites operated by Korea and to monitor the Geostationary Earth Orbit (GEO) region near the Korean peninsula. To obtain dense measurements on LEO tracking, the chopper system was adopted in the OWL-Net's back-end system. Dozens of angle-only measurements can be obtained for a single shot with the observation mode for LEO tracking. In previous work, the reduction process of the LEO tracking data was presented, along with the mechanical specification of the back-end system of the OWL-Net. In this research, we describe an integrity assessment method of time-position matching and verification of results from real observations of LEO satellites. The change rate of the angle of each streak in the shot was checked to assess the results of the matching process. The time error due to the chopper rotation motion was corrected after re-matching of time and position. The corrected measurements were compared with the simulated observation data, which were taken from the Consolidated Prediction File from the International Laser Ranging Service. The comparison results are presented in the In-track and Cross-track frame.
This paper presents the design method of a Colpitts type oscillator with coplanar waveguide(CPW) structures in the range of Ka-band frequency for transmitter and receiver modules. Series short stubs of CPW patterns provide inductances and capacitances in the range of Ka-band which can be expressed as a CLC-$\pi$ equivalent circuit. The experimentation has employed ro4003 substrates as a CPW substrate which has a dielectric constant of 3.38 and a signal and ground space of 100um. A method of momentum simulation for the CPW patterns has performed with an ADS software tool of Hewlett-Packard Corp. Inductance and capacitance circuits of a Colpitts oscillator was interconnected to a MESFET with CPW bend structures of including the input and output impedance matching circuits of the active transistor. Circuit parameters for impedance matching were determined through the network conversion to the equivalent length of CPW transmission lines by using T-network 1 $\pi$-network conversion circuit. A Colpitts oscillator was fabricated on the substrate of a area of 8.5mm x 17.4mm with a MESFET of Fujitsu FMM5704X and CPW series short stubs. The design suggested the possibility of realizing oscillators on a planar surface for the wireless system of tansmitter and receiver modules in the frequency range of 30GHz

In this paper, parasitic patches gap-coupled microstrip antenna and stacked microstrip patch antenna combined with parallel coupled lines, which are a kind of wideband impedance matching network, are proposed to get the wider bandwidth. The iterative method using a distributed network is proposed to design the parallel coupled lines as a wideband impedance matching network. Measurements show that the proposed antennas provide wider bandwidths ~1.6 times and ~1.5 times those of conventional parasitic gap-coupled microstrip patch antenna and stacked microstrip patch antenna. In addition, measured radiation patterns show no serious variation of radiation patterns though the parallel coupled lines is added. The antenna gain is, however, lowered about 1 dB and 0.5 dB by the coupling loss in the parallel coupled lines.

Broadband ISDN will support advanced communication services such as multimedia conference, VOD and electronic news service. Because many of these advanced services require multimedia data delivery, future communication networks must have flexible and efficient multiparty communications capabilities. In this paper we propose a new multicasting method which uses packer filtering capabilities both in a physical network and in a logical network layers. This new scheme has potential to reduce the transmission and packet processing overheads of multicast communications. For the new multicasting method, we develop a group matching algorithm which finds a suitable set of groups that covers multiple target hosts. We show the application of the multicasting method and the group matching algorithm with two simple examoles.
With the development of social network services, graph structures have been utilized to represent relationships among objects in various applications. Recently, a demand of subgraph matching in real-time graph streams has been increased. Therefore, an efficient approximate Top-k subgraph matching scheme for low latency in real-time graph streams is required. In this paper, we propose an approximate Top-k subgraph matching scheme considering data reuse in graph stream environments. The proposed scheme utilizes the distributed stream processing platform, called Storm to handle a large amount of stream data. We also utilize an existing data reuse scheme to decrease stream processing costs. We propose a distance based summary indexing technique to generate Top-k subgraph matching results. The proposed summary indexing technique costs very low since it only stores distances among vertices that are selected in advance. Finally, we provide k subgraph matching results to users by performing an approximate Top-k matching on the summary indexing. In order to show the superiority of the proposed scheme, we conduct various performance evaluations in diverse real world datasets.

Visual place recognition (VPR) is a fundamental yet challenging task of mobile robot navigation and localization. The existing VPR methods are usually based on some pairwise similarity of image descriptors, so they are sensitive to visual appearance change and also computationally expensive. This paper proposes a simple yet effective four-step method that achieves adaptive convolutional neural network (CNN) landmark matching for VPR. First, based on the features extracted from existing CNN models, the regions with higher significance scores are selected as landmarks. Then, according to the coordinate positions of potential landmarks, landmark matching is improved by removing mismatched landmark pairs. Finally, considering the significance scores obtained in the first step, robust image retrieval is performed based on adaptive landmark matching, and it gives more weight to the landmark matching pairs with higher significance scores. To verify the efficiency and robustness of the proposed method, evaluations are conducted on standard benchmark datasets. The experimental results indicate that the proposed method reduces the feature representation space of place images by more than 75% with negligible loss in recognition precision. Also, it achieves a fast matching speed in similarity calculation, satisfying the real-time requirement.
