나선형 홈에 의한 하이브리드 로켓 고체연료의 연소율 증가 특성 (The Increase in Regression Rate due to Helical Grain in Solid Fuel of Hybrid Rocket)

  • 하이브리드 로켓 연료의 연소율 향상을 위한 나선형 홈이 유동 특성에 미치는 영향을 규명하기 위하여 난류 증가와 선회 유동 발생에 대한 수치계산을 수행하였다. 나선형 튜브의 열전달 관계식을 이용하여 여러 형상의 나선형 홈이 있는 연료의 열전달 향상을 예측하였으며 연소율 측정값과 비교하여 상호 연관성을 확인하였다. 실험 결과와 열전달 향상 예측 값은 동일한 경향을 나타내더라도 수치는 큰 차이를 나타냈는데 이것은 연료가 연소하기 위하여 기화할 때 발생하는 분출속도가 존재하기 때문이다. 분출효과를 고려하여 RANS 계산을 수행한 결과, 난류에너지는 상당히 증가한 반면 선회 수는 조금 증가하는 결과를 보여 주었다. 그럼에도 불구하고 나선형 홈에 의한 난류 증가 또는 선회유동 생성은 연소율을 증가시키는 중요한 메커니즘임이 밝혀졌다. 그러나 분출로 인하여 난류에너지가 증가되어도 열전달 향상에 기여하지 못하는 것으로 확인되었는데 이것은 분출 속도가 표면의 경계층을 밀어내어 대류 열전달이 증가되는 것을 차단하기 때문인 것으로 밝혀졌다.

The health effects of low blood lead level in oxidative stress as a marker, serum gamma-glutamyl transpeptidase level, in male steelworkers

  • Background: This study aimed to investigate the association between lead exposure and serum gamma-glutamyl transpeptidase (γGT) levels as an oxidative stress marker in male steelworkers. Methods: Data were collected during the annual health examination of workers in 2020. A total of 1,654 steelworkers were selected, and the variables for adjustment included the workers' general characteristics, lifestyle, and occupational characteristics. The association between the blood lead level (BLL) and serum γGT level was investigated by multiple linear and logistic regression analyses. The BLL and serum γGT values that were transformed into natural logarithms were used in multiple linear regression analysis, and the tertile of BLL was used in logistic regression analysis. Results: The geometric mean of the participants' BLLs and serum γGT level was 1.36 ㎍/dL and 27.72 IU/L, respectively. Their BLLs differed depending on age, body mass index (BMI), smoking status, drinking status, shift work, and working period, while their serum γGT levels differed depending on age, BMI, smoking status, drinking status, physical activity, and working period. In multiple linear regression analysis, the difference in models 1, 2, and 3 was significant, obtaining 0.326, 0.176, and 0.172 (all: p < 0.001), respectively. In the multiple linear regression analysis stratified according to drinking status, BMI, and age, BLLs were positively associated with serum γGT levels. Regarding the logistic regression analysis, the odds ratio of the third BLL tertile in models 1, 2, and 3 (for having an elevated serum γGT level within the first tertile reference) was 2.74, 1.83, and 1.81, respectively. Conclusions: BLL was positively associated with serum γGT levels in male steelworkers even at low lead concentrations (< 5 ㎍/dL).

Simultaneous quantitative analysis of salivary cortisol and cortisone in Korean adults using LC-MS/MS

  • The levels of salivary cortisol and cortisone in Korean adults were measured for the first time using liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS). The salivary cortisol and cortisone were separated within 10 min. The regression coefficients (r) of the calibration curves were greater than 0.999 for the two steroids. The limits of quantitation (LOQ) were 0.2 ng/ml for cortisol and 1 ng/ml for cortisone. The intra-day precisions of the assay were <3.9% and 8.6% for cortisol and cortisone respectively, and the inter-day precisions were <1.9% and 4.3% for cortisol and cortisone, respectively. The salivary cortisone concentrations were approximately 4-9 times higher than those of salivary cortisol during the daytime. Diurnal rhythms, during which the cortisol and cortisone concentrations were higher in the morning than in the afternoon, were also observed. The present assay may be useful for the diagnosis of several adrenal dysfunctions in clinical biochemistry.

Determinants of Circulating Soluble Leptin Receptor and Free Leptin Index in Indonesian Pre-Pubertal Obese Male Children: A Preliminary CrossSectional Study

  • Purpose: This study aimed to investigate the clinical and metabolic determinants of circulating soluble leptin receptor (CSLR) and free leptin index (FLI) in pre-pubertal obese male children. Methods: We conducted a preliminary cross-sectional study at three tertiary hospitals and one public primary school. Eighty obese male children without growth and developmental abnormalities aged 5-9 years were recruited. In these children, obesity was solely caused by excessive food intake, and not by acute illness, medications, endocrine abnormalities, or any syndrome. Body mass index (BMI), body fat mass, carbohydrate intake, fat intake, high density lipoprotein cholesterol level, low density lipoprotein cholesterol level, triglyceride level, and Homeostatic Model Assessment for Insulin Resistance are the potential determinants for leptin regulation, which is represented by CSLR level and FLI. Results: Carbohydrate was the main source of energy. BMI and body fat mass had negative weak correlation with CSLR and positive weak correlation with FLI. Furthermore, carbohydrate intake was found to be independently associated with CSLR based on the results of the multiple linear regression analysis. Following an increase in carbohydrate intake, CSLR level decreased progressively without any negative peak. Conclusion: Leptin regulation in prepubertal obese male children is associated with body composition and dietary intake. Carbohydrate intake is useful for predicting CSLR. Lipid profiles and insulin resistance are not related to both CSLR and FLI. Treatment and prevention of leptin resistance in obese children should focus on reducing BMI, fat mass, and carbohydrate intake.

Relationship Between the Body Mass Index and Abnormal Pap Smears

  • This cross-sectional analytic study aimed to investigate any relationship between the body mass index (BMI) and an abnormal Pap smear. The subjects were 7,720 women aged 30-69 years who lived in Khon Kaen Province, Thailand, and had been recruited as participants in the Khon Kaen Cohort Study during 1990-2001. All had received Pap smear screening for cervical cancer. The data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. Multiple logistic regression was used to determine the relationship between body mass index and an abnormal Pap smear. The mean BMI was $24.53kg/m^2$ (SD=3.98), and 2.14% had abnormal Pap smears. Compared with the reference group of women with a BMI ${\leq}22.9kg/m^2$, those with a body mass index of $23.0-24.9kg/m^2$ had a reduced risk of an abnormal smear (ORadj=0.92, 95%CI: 0.57-1.47), but women with a BMI $25.0-29.9kg/m^2$ were found to have an approximately 1.24 times higher risk ($OR_{adj}=1.24$, 95%CI: 0.86-1.80), and those with a BMI ${\geq}30.0kg/m^2$ had an approximately 1.63 times higher risk ($OR_{adj}=1.63$, 95%CI: 0.98-2.69). The results indicated that the risk of Pap smear abnormalities is increased in women who have a higher than normal body mass index, but this finding was not statistically significant. Nevertheless, public health personnel should encourage women to maintain their BMI in the normal range to reduce the possible future risk of cervical cancer.

Total energy intake according to the level of skeletal muscle mass in Korean adults aged 30 years and older: an analysis of the Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Surveys (KNHANES) 2008-2011

  • BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: Since gain or loss of skeletal muscle mass is a gradual event and occurs due to a combination of lifestyle factors, assessment of dietary factors related to skeletal muscle is complicated. The aim of this study was to investigate the changes in total energy intake according to the level of skeletal muscle mass. SUBJECTS/METHODS: A total of 8,165 subjects ${\geq}30years$ of age from the Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Surveys (KNHANES) 2008-2011 were included in the analysis, and multivariate-adjusted regression analyses were performed to analyze the association of the quartiles of sarcopenia index (SI) with energy intake of the study population after adjusting for age and metabolic parameters. RESULTS: The increase in SI quartile was in proportion to the gradual decrease in systemic lipids and the anthropometric measurement of fat accumulation (P < 0.001). Subjects in higher SI quartiles tended to consume more total energy and energy-producing nutrients than those in lower quartiles (P < 0.001). After age, body weight, alcohol consumption, and metabolic parameters were adjusted in the analysis, total energy intake gradually increased according to the increase in SI quartile, and the association between total energy intake and SI was more pronounced in men. However, the risk (odd ratio) of having a low SI was not affected by any single macronutrient intake. CONCLUSION: In this study, total energy intake was positively associated with SI and relative skeletal mass in both men and women. However, no significant association or a weak association was observed between any single macronutrient intake and skeletal muscle mass. The data indicated that acquiring more energy intake within the normal range of energy consumption may help to maintain skeletal muscle mass.

Association of Thigh Muscle Mass with Insulin Resistance and Incident Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus in Japanese Americans

  • Background: Skeletal muscle plays a major role in glucose metabolism. We investigated the association between thigh muscle mass, insulin resistance, and incident type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) risk. In addition, we examined the role of body mass index (BMI) as a potential effect modifier in this association. Methods: This prospective study included 399 Japanese Americans without diabetes (mean age 51.6 years) who at baseline had an estimation of thigh muscle mass by computed tomography and at baseline and after 10 years of follow-up a 75-g oral glucose tolerance test and determination of homeostasis model assessment of insulin resistance (HOMA-IR). We fit regression models to examine the association between thigh muscle area and incidence of T2DM and change in HOMA-IR, both measured over 10 years. Results: Thigh muscle area was inversely associated with future HOMA-IR after adjustment for age, sex, BMI, HOMA-IR, fasting plasma glucose, total abdominal fat area, and thigh subcutaneous fat area at baseline (P=0.033). The 10-year cumulative incidence of T2DM was 22.1%. A statistically significant interaction between thigh muscle area and BMI was observed, i.e., greater thigh muscle area was associated with lower risk of incident T2DM for subjects at lower levels of BMI, but this association diminished at higher BMI levels. Conclusion: Thigh muscle mass area was inversely associated with future insulin resistance. Greater thigh muscle area predicts a lower risk of incident T2DM for leaner Japanese Americans.

기계학습 기반의 영화흥행예측 방법 비교: 인공신경망과 의사결정나무를 중심으로 (A Comparison of Predicting Movie Success between Artificial Neural Network and Decision Tree)

  • 본 연구는 영화산업의 가치사슬단계에 따라 각 단계에서 고려할 수 있는 변인을 활용하여 제작/투자, 배급, 상영단계별 모형을 구성하였다. 모형의 예측력을 높이기 위해 회귀분석으로 유의미한 변인을 도출하여 모형을 추가로 설정하였다. 주어진 변인을 바탕으로 기계학습 분석방법인 인공신경망과 의사결정나무 분석방법 간의 예측력 차이를 비교하였다. 분석 결과, 제작/투자 모형과 배급 모형에서 모든 변인을 투입했을 때는 인공신경망의 정확도가 의사결정나무보다 높았으나, 회귀분석결과에 따라 선정된 변인을 투입하였을 때는 의사결정나무의 정확도가 더 높았다. 상영 모형에서는 회귀분석결과의 반영여부와 관계없이 인공신경망의 정확도가 의사결정나무의 정확도보다 높게 나타났다. 본 논문은 영화흥행 예측연구에 기계학습기법을 적용하여 예측성과가 향상됨을 확인하였다는데 의의가 있다. 선형회귀분석 결과를 기계학습기법에 반영함으로써 기존의 선형적 분석방법의 한계를 극복하고자 하였다.

이산화질소 다중측정을 이용한 실내공기의 환기량 밀 발생량 추정에 관한 연구 (A Study on Estimation on Air Exchange Rate and Source Strength in Indoor Air Using Multiple Measurements of Nitrogen Dioxide)

  • Daily indoor and outdoor nitrogen dioxide ($NO_2$) concentration for 30 days were measured in 28 houses with questionnaire of housing characteristics in Brisbane, Australia. Using mass balance equation and regression analysis, penetration factors and source strength factors were calculated. The penetration factors of 27 houses except one house were between zero and 1, though penetration factor should be between zero and 1 by means of mass balance equation. Relationship between indoor and outdoor concentrations in each 27 house was calculated using regression analysis. According to the obtained linear regression equation, the slope means penetration factor and the intercept means source strength factor. Calculated mean and standard deviation of coefficients of determination ($R^2$) in electric and gas range houses were $0.70{\pm}0.13$ and $0.57{\pm}0.21$, respectively. The source strength factors were more than zero in 27 houses. Mean and standard deviation of slopes in electric and gas range houses were $0.65{\pm}0.18$ and $0.56{\pm}0.12$, respectively. Mean and standard deviation of intercepts in electric and gas range houses were $1.49{\pm}1.25$ and $5.77{\pm}3.55$, respectively. Air exchange rate and source strength were calculated from penetration factor and source strength factor, respectively. Geometric mean and standard deviation of calculated air exchange rates in 27 houses were $1.1/hr{\pm}1.5$. Presence of gas range was the most significant factor contributing to indoor $NO_2$ level in house characteristics (p=0.003). In gas range houses, source strengths ranged from 4.1 to $33.1cm^3/hr{\cdot}m^3$ with a mean $12.7cm^3/hr{\cdot}m^3$ and a standard deviation 9.8. The source strengths of gas range houses were significantly different from those of electric range houses by t-test (p<0.001)

골다공증 예방을 위한 골량증진행위와 건강통제위 유형과의 관계 (A Relations of Bone Mass Promoting Behaviors for Prevention of Osteoporosis and Multidimensional Health Locus of Control Scale Cluster)

  • This study was made to suggest the nursing strategies for promoting the behaviors about bone mass health behaviors in order to prevent middle aged women's osteoporosis. This study was a descriptive-correlational design that also concerned to the types which improve bone mass promoting behaviors by inspecting patterns of health locus of control method out of recognizable variables of health improving models influencing on these bone mass promoting behaviors. For these purpose, data were collected by self reported questionnaire in middle school, from 158 women living in Seoul. The measuring tools used in this study about bone mass promoting behaviors and multidimensional health locus of control, were developed by author on the basis of literature review and analyzed by SPSS-PC window, into pearson's correlation, ANOVA, multiple regression, cluster analysis. Data was analyzed as follows. 1. 6 Multidimensional health locus of control scale clusters were existed. : a)cluster I (pure internal), b)cluster II(pure chance), c) cluster III(Believer in control), d), cluster IV(Type VI), e)cluster V(yea sayer), f) cluster VI(nay sayer). There were no findings of the powerful others external cluster and double external cluster. 2. The higher the value of internal health locus of control was, the better the bone mass promoting behaviors were(r=.2891, $p=.00^{**}$). The higher the value of chance external health locus of control was, the worse the bone mass promoting behaviors were(r=-.1367, $p=.00^{**}$). 3. On the basis of these relationships, 6 clusters were significantly different in the bone mass promoting behaviors(F=2.27, $p=.05^*$). The value of bone mass promoting behaviors was ranked the order of type VI>believer in control>pure internal>yea sayer>nay sayer>pure chance external highly. 4. Bone mass promoting behaviors were not significantly different as to age. Suggestion. Based on the results from the study, I would like to make some suggestions as follows. 1) To delay the loss of bone mass in middle aged women, the study on the cluster of the multidimensional health locus of control should be conducted repeatedly. 2) The tool of multidimensional health locus of control should be developed through a qualitative method adjusted on Korean' health culture.
