Vibration control performance of particle tuned mass inerter system

  • To improve the vibration control performance and applicability of traditional particle tuned mass damper (PTMD) and realize the significant characteristic of lightweight design, this study proposes a novel particle tuned mass inerter system (PTMIS) by introducing inerter system (IS) to the PTMD. In the study, the motion equation of single degree of freedom (SDOF) structure attached with PTMIS is established first, then the variation law of the system's vibration reduction performance (VRP) is discussed through parameter analysis, and it is compared with the PTMD to analyze its VRP advantages. Finally, its vibration reduction (VR) mechanism from the perspective of core control force and energy analysis is explored, and its cavity relative displacement from the application perspective is analyzed. The results show that the PTMIS can remarkably improve the vibration control effectiveness of the PTMD. The reason is that the inerter can store energy and transfer the energy to the cavity and particles, which further stimulates the interaction between the two parts, thereby improving the nonlinear energy consumption effectiveness. Also, the IS can amplify the damping element's energy dissipation efficiency. In addition, the PTMIS can effectively reduce the working stroke of the PTMD, and through the analysis of the lightweight characteristics of the PTMIS, it is found that its lightweight advantage can reach nearly 100%.

An Experimental and Mathematical Study on the Effects of Ignition Energy and System on the Flame Kernel Development

  • A constant volume combustion chamber is used to investigate the flame kernel development of gasoline air mixtures under various ignition systems, ignition energies and spark plugs. Three kinds of ignition systems are designed and assembled, and the ignition energy is controlled by the variation of the dwell time. Several kinds of spark plugs are also tested. The velocity of flame propagation is measured by a laser deflection method, and the combustion pressure is analyzed by the heat release rate and the mass fraction burnt. The results represent that as the ignition energy is increased by enlarging either dwell time or spark plug gap, the heat release rate and the mass fraction burnt are increased. The electrodes materials and shapes influence the flame kernel development by changing he transfer efficiency of electrical energy to chemical energy. The diameter of electrodes also influences the heat release rate and the burnt mass fraction.

A Study on the Linetic Energy of the Laser-Ablated Cation Using Time-of-Flight Mass Spectrometry

  • The initial kinetic energy of laser-ablated Zn cation has been investigated via time-of-flight mass spectrometry. The flight times of the ions have been measured with a high voltage pulse on the extract electrode in the mass spectrometer, which has been delayed from the laser pulse. The time-of-flight equation including the initial kinetic energy term of the ion has been derived for the mass spectrometer. The optimum value of the initial kinetic energy has been extracted by fitting the measured flight times into the time-of-flight equation. The initial kinetic energy of the ions generated by Nd:YAG laser (532 nm) at the power density of 5 × 107 W/cm2 has been determined to be 22-44 kJ/mol.

  • In this article, excitation forces due to unbalance mass in a flywheel energy storage system will be discussed, which mainly consists of a composite flywheel and active magnetic bearings and a motor/generator. Unbalance mass causes moments as well as centrifugal forces to the center of the flywheel when the flywheel rotates. The moment excites the flywheel to revolve in the shape of conical revolution and in real operation, the flywheel shows an aspect that conical revolution is a main mode when system failure occurs. Although there are several excitation sources to the flywheel including unbalance mass, an excitation from motor and control issues of the magnetic bearings, we could infer unbalance mass is the main cause of the failure from a comparison between a composite flywheel and a steel flywheel in the same condition. In this of view, excitation forces and moments induced by unbalance mass should be carefully considered in dynamics of the flywheel so that the energy storage system can be operated in more stable conditions.

Study on the Equilibrium Point of Heat and Mass Transfer between Liquid Desiccant and Humid Air with in the Solar Air Conditioning System

  • The liquid solar air conditioning system is introduced as an alternative solution to control air condition and to save electrical energy consumption. The heat and mass transfer performances of dehumidifier/regenerator in liquid solar air conditioning system are influenced by air and desiccant condition. The application of this system, the thermal energy from the sun and inlet air are unable to control, but operation parameter of other components such as pump, fan and sensible cooling unit are able to control. The equilibrium point of heat and mass transfer are the liquid desiccant and inlet air conditions, where, the heat and mass are not transferred between the liquid desiccant and vapor air. By knowing equilibrium point of heat and mass transfer, the suitable optimal desiccant conditions for certain air condition are funded. This present experiment study is investigated the equilibrium point heat and mass transfer in various air and desiccant temperature. The benefit of equilibrium point heat and mass transfer will be helpful in choose and design proper component to optimize electrical energy consumption.

Dynamic response of a hinged-free beam subjected to impact at an arbitrary location along its span with shear effect

  • In case of considering the shear effect, the complete solutions are obtained for dynamic plastic response of a rigid, perfectly plastic hinged-free beam, of which one end is hinged and the other end free, subjected to a transverse strike by a travelling rigid mass at an arbitrary location along its span. Special attention is paid to new deformation mechanisms due to shear sliding on both sides of the rigid mass and the plastic energy dissipation. The dimensionless numerical results demonstrate that three parameters, i.e., mass ratio, impact position of mass, as well as the non-dimensional fully plastic shear force, have significant influence on the partitioning of dissipated energy and failure mode of the hingedfree beam. The shear effect can never be negligible when the mass ratio is comparatively small and the impact location of mass is close to the hinged end.

  • TOF 비행시간을 이용한 에어로졸 질량분석기에서 질량분석기의 분해능은 발생하는 이온의 초기에너지와 이온이 움직이는 진행방향에 따라 달라진다. 고출력 펄스형 레이저에 의하여 에어로졸로부터 용발되어 이온화된 원소들은 다른 속도로 사방으로 퍼져 나가게 되어 분해능 저하를 초래하는데 이를 방지하기 위해서 1차 가속된 이온들을 서로 다른 에너지로 후집속하여 같은 시간에 이온센서에 도달하도록 하는 장치에 대하여 연구를 수행하였다. 후집속 전위를 $90^{\circ}$ 방향으로 진행하는 이온을 중심으로 서로 다른 방향으로 걸어 줌으로써 TOF 영역을 지나 센서로 도입되는 이온의 도착 시간이 크게 개선되었음을 알 수 있었으며, 이를 실증하기 위하여 레이저 유도 이온을 만들고 후집속 장치를 구성하여 최적의 시간지연시간 및 전압 조건을 도출하여 그 성능을 증가시켰다.

  • 2중관형과 판형 열교환기에 에틸렌 클리콜-물 수용액으로 만들어진 아이스슬러리를 적용하는 경우의 유동 및 열적 특성을 규명하기 위하여 실험을 수행하였다. 아이스슬러리의 질량유속과 얼음 분율은 각각 800에서 3500 kg/$m^2s$과 0에서 25%이었다. 실험을 통해, 압력강하와 열전달율은 질량유속과 얼음 분율에 따라 증가하였다. 그러나 얼음 분율의 효과는 높은 질량유속 영역에서는 크지 않은 것으로 나타났다. 낮은 질량유속에서는 압력강하와 열전달율의 급속한 증가가 질량 유속에 관계되는 것으로 나타났다.

  • Quadrupole Mass Spectrometer를 이용하여 핵연료봉으로부터 포집된 1기업이하 소량의 기체들로부터 그들의 조성과 동위원소비를 구하는 방법을 검토하였다. He, $N_2$, $O_2$, Ar, Kr, Xe의 개별기체와 혼합기체를 이용하여 기체압력과 조성비에 따른 검정곡선의 직선성을 조사하였다. Sample chamber와 analyser chamber 사이에 부착된 molecular leak의 영향을 조사하였으며, 시료와 유사한 조성을 갖는 혼합표준기체로부터 각 기체의 감도를 얻은 후 동일조건에서 시료를 분석하였다. 측정압력 범위에서 Kr과 Xe의 동위원소간 감도차는 크게 나타나지 않았다.
