  • IASL(iodo acetamide spin label) and MSL(maleimide spin label) disordered the orderly helix arrangement of myosin in the rest state of spin level. Especially the effect of IASL was great. The muscle was isometrically tetanized with three trains of 3ms pulses every 50ms between $5^{\circ}C$ with $25^{\circ}C$. Equatorial reflection change inferred that myosin head was moved to the vicinity of actin filament by spin level. The intensity change of $143{\AA}$ and $72{\AA}$ could offer information of the mass projection of population of myosin head along the filament axis. The slope of intensity profile of the mass projection of $143{\AA}$ and reflection of IASL is appeared and that of MSL is appeared sharply. The decrease of $215{\AA}$ reflection intensity the periodical character of $143{\AA}$ reflection by spin label. The raise of MSL actin reflection at $51{\AA}$ and $59{\AA}$ in the actin reflection change refers that the shifted myosin head binds a certain actin or changes an actin structure by spin label effect. Because iodo acetamide has a tendency to decease the actin reflection, actin dose not bind myosin head. From this result, we can conclude that IASL and MSL are spin labeled on SH of myosin head and disordered the helix arrangement of actin.

  • The esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) is thought to develop through a multi-stage process. Epigenetic gene silencing constitutes an alternative or complementary mechanism to mutational events in tumorigenesis. Posttranscriptional regulation of human leukocyte antigen class I (HLA-I) and antigen processing machinery (APM) proteins expression may be associated with novel epigenetic modifications in cancer development. In the present study, we determined the expression levels of HLA-I antigen and APM components by immunohistochemistry. Then by a bisulfite-sequencing PCR (BSP) approach, we identified target CpG islands methylated at the gene promoter region of APM family genes in a ESCC cell line (ECa109), and further quantitative analysis of CpG site specific methylation of these genes in cases of Kazakh primary ESCCs with corresponding non-cancerous esophageal tissues using the Sequenom MassARRAY platform. Here we showed that the development of ESCCs was accompanied by partial or total loss of protein expression of HLA-B, TAP2, LMP7, tapasin and ERp57. The results demonstrated that although no statistical significance was found of global target CpG fragment methylation level sof HLA-B, TAP2, tapasin and ERp57 genes between ESCC and corresponding non-cancerous esophageal tissues, there was significant differences in the methylation level of several single sites between the two groups. Of thesse only the global methylation level of LMP7 gene target fragments was statistically higher ($0.0517{\pm}0.0357$) in Kazakh esophageal cancer than in neighboring normal tissues ($0.0380{\pm}0.0214$, p<0.05). Our results suggest that multiple CpG sites, but not methylation of every site leads to down regulation or deletion of gene expression. Only some of them result in genetic transcription, and silencing of HLA-B, ERp57, and LMP7 expression through hypermethylation of the promoters or other mechanisms may contribute to mechanisms of tumor escape from immune surveillance in Kazakh esophageal carcinogenesis.

  • Fenton reaction with zerovalent iron (ZVI) and $Fe^{2+}$ ions was studied to treat pharmaceutical wastewaters (PhWW) including antibiotics and non-biodegradable organics. Incremental biodegradability was assessed by monitoring biochemical oxygen demand (BOD) changes during Fenton reaction. Original undiluted wastewater samples were used as collected from the pharmaceutical factory. Experiments were carried out to obtain optimal conditions for Fenton reaction under different $H_2O_2$ and ion salts (ZVI and $Fe^{2+}$) concentrations. The optimal ratio and dosage of $H_2O_2$/ZVI were 5 and 25/5 g/L (mass basis), respectively. Also, the optimal ratio and dosage of $H_2O_2/Fe^{2+}$ ions were 5 and 35/7 g/L (mass basis), respectively. Under optimized conditions, the chemical oxygen demand (COD) removal efficiency by ZVI was 23% better than the treatment with $Fe^{2+}$ ion. The reaction time was 45 min for ZVI and shorter than 60 min for $Fe^{2+}$ ion. The COD and total organic carbon (TOC) were decreased, but BOD was increased under the optimal conditions of $H_2O_2$/ZVI = 25/5 g/L, because organic compounds were converted into biodegradable intermediates in the early steps of the reaction. The BOD/TOC ratio was increased, but reverse-wise, the COD/TOC was decreased because of generated intermediates. The biodegradability was increased about 9.8 times (BOD/TOC basis), after treatment with ZVI. The combination of chemical and biological processes seems an interesting combination for treating PhWW.

  • Chitosan, hydroxycitrate and L-carnitine have been known to be antiobesity components. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the combined effects of chitosan, hydroxycitrate and L-carnitine mixture as a potential antiobesity supplement in overweight women. Pre-menopausal healthy females who were overweight (percent ideal body weight > 110) were included in this study. Forty-nine subjects randomly received a placebo (n = 25) or antiobesity-supplement (n = 24), which was a mixture of chitosan, hydroxycitrate, and L-carnitine. Before and after the eight-week experimental period, anthropometric parameters, blood components and computerized tomography were measured. At baseline, the two groups were well matched in terms of age, body mass index and lipid profile. After the eight weeks of potential antiobesity supplementation, the subjects' body fat percent had decreased significantly (p < 0.001) by 5.6% (39.1 $\pm$ 1 vs 36.9 $\pm$ 1%) while lean body mass increased (p < 0.01). Vsceral fat area at the L4 vertebra decreased significantly (p < 0.01) by 8.6% in the supplemented group and the total fat area at the L4 vertebra showed a tendency to decrease (p = 0.051) by 2.4%. Also, in the group given the antiobesity-supplement rather than the placebo, the fasting triglyceride level decreased significantly (p < 0.05) by 10.0%. In addition, serum total cholesterol levels in the antiobesity-supplement group showed a tendency to decrease (p=0.159) by 2.7% (194 $\pm$ 6 vs 189 $\pm$ 6 mg/dl). No side effects were found in either group during the intervention. In conclusion, the present study demonstrated that taking a mixture of chitosan, hydroxycitrate, and L-carnitine as a potential antiobesity supplement for eight weeks produced advantageous changes in the weight and visceral fat accumulation of overweight women without any side effects. • The purpose of this study was to examine the cellular response of Salmonella typhimurium exposed to tea polyphenols (TPP) extracted from Korean green tea (Camellia sinensis L.). TPP showed a dose-dependent bactericidal effect on S. typhimurium. Analysis of cell membrane fatty acids of S. typhimurium cultures treated with TPP identified unique changes in saturated and unsaturated fatty acids, while scanning electron microscopic analysis demonstrated the presence of perforations and irregular rod forms with wrinkled surfaces in cells treated with TPP. Two-dimensional polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis of soluble protein fractions from S. typhimurium cultures showed 16 protein spots increased by TPP. These up-regulated proteins including proteins involved in antioxidants and chaperons, transcript and binding proteins, energy and DNA metabolism were identified by peptide mass fingerprinting using MALDI-TOF. These results provide clues for understanding the mechanism of TPP induced stress and cytotoxicity on S. typhimurium.

  • This study focuses on the Russian Constructivist Textile Design in the post-revolutionary period, of the early 20th century. Russian textile of the time is highly valued in the west in terms of innovative changes in aesthetic directions, which has become one of the most important centers for the development of new textiles, or the origin of industrial design. Most of brilliant mass-production patterns were produced specially by the pioneers of constructivists such as Stepanova and Popova who were influenced by 'Maxism' through the Revolution regarded themselves as productivists for the proletariat. They were inspired by the avant-garde movements, which were involved with traditionalism, futuristic mechanism, stylization of nature, pure geometrical and abstract form. Early textile design was based on the relationship between the graphic methods of design and the technology because they regarded art as physical, intellectual and technical production. They created all the excitement made from the primary simplest forms of precise mathmatical shapes, such as the circle, the triangle, the rectangle and horizontle and vertical lines. These geometric design can be interpreted as the mechanization of the artists'labor, or methods in line with the technology of mass production, however partly roots in the rich tradition of Russian decorative art. On the other hand, stable crystalline construction on the surface reflect urban architectural complex, and the world of industry in graphic form. They were interested in illusion of movement, cinematic movement of vertical linear rhythms, optical formations and vibrations, by composing a multi-leveled constructions by several spatial planes, or color-field, and combining structures of several intersecting matrices, and superimposing parts of the forms on each other. All these characteristics of the Russian textile designs reflect the complex interactions between 'art and society' of Constructivist's idea and represent the traits of the epoch.

  • The previous studies for dynamic behavior of spatial structure have been zoomed in on roof structure by numerical analytic method. But the roof structure of real spatial structures is supported by lower structure as column and wall. So, when earthquake is occurred, it is predicted that dynamic behavior of roof structure is affected by lower structure. Therefore, on this study, natural period characteristics of arch structures are analyzed according to section, length and the modulus of elasticity of brass column and polycarbonate column and additional mass of roof structure by the scale-down model of arch structure as the most simple structure of spatial structures. The changes of natural periods are generally alike. But, when Polycarbonate column is connected to roof structure, the change of natural period for change of section is relatively large. That means that change of section and section and length of column and additional mass of roof structure have less influence on change of stiffness because the modulus of elasticity of brass is relatively large.
