  • MALDI-TOF-MS technique was applied to obtain structural and compositional information of synthetic polyamides, Nylon6 and Nylon66. Mass spectra of both the original and the hydrolyzed polyamide samples were analyzed using the self calibration method as well as the internal calibration method with the standard materials of known masses. The MALDI-TOF mass spectra of Nylon6 samples showed the presence of protonated, sodiated, and potassiated ions that were assigned to cyclic and NH2/COOH terminated linear oligomers. From the MALDI-TOF mass spectra of Nylon66 samples, the potassiated linear oligomers with three different end groups are identified as well as the cyclic oligomers, i.e., NH2/COOH terminated oligomers, NH2/NH2 terminated oligomers, and COOH/COOH terminated oligomers. Full characterization of the molecular species and end groups present in the polyamide samples has been achieved, and also the changes in mass spectral patterns after the hydrolysis of the samples are presented.

  • Tintinnid species distribution has been monitored in the northern East China Sea (ECS) in the summer of 2006 through 2011. This is used to understand the water mass movements in the northern ECS. The warm oceanic tintinnid species had largely spread in 2007 in the area, indicating that there was greater warm water extension into the northern ECS. However the extension of neritic water within the Changjiang diluted water mass has strengthened in 2008 and 2010 because the neritic species distribution had relatively grown in both years. These annual results based on the biological indicators of tintinnid species are well matched with the salinity change in the area. The warm oceanic species, Dadayiella ganymedes had frequently occurred over the study years and had shown a significant relationship with the salinity change. This is valuable as a key stone species for monitoring the intrusion of the Kuroshio within the northern ECS. Information from tintinnid biological indicators can support physical oceanography data to confirm ambiguous water mass properties.

  • The solid-liquid mass transfer coefficients $k_L$ in a gas-liquid-solid three phases agitated vessel were measured with conventional impellers (e.g. Rushton turbine, paddle, and propeller). For the conventional impellers the rotational speed for the complete suspension $N_{js}$ changes with the impeller height and gas flow rate. Mass transfer coefficient of the Rushton turbin impeller, for which the particle suspension was independent of the aeration, is correlated only with Pgv. Mass transfer coefficients $k_L$ for the Rushton turbine, paddle and propeller impellers were affected by the impeller position.

  • In recent decades, wavelet transforms as a strong signal processing tool have attracted attention of researchers for damage identification. Apart from the wide application of wavelet transforms for damage identification, influence of higher order modes on the quality of damage detection has been a challenging matter for researchers. In this study, influence of higher order modes and different mass configurations on the quality of damage detection through Discrete Wavelet Transform (DWT) was studied. Nine different damage scenarios were imposed to four cantilever structures having different mass configurations. The first four mode shapes of the cantilever structures were measured experimentally and analyzed by DWT. A damage index was defined in order to study the influence of higher order modes. Results of this study showed that change in the mass configuration had a great impact on the quality of damage detection even when the changes altered natural frequencies slightly. It was observed that for successful damage detection all available mode shapes should be taken into account and measured mode shapes had no significant priority for damage detection over each other.

  • Object : Waist circumference(WC), waist-hip ratio(WHR), waist-stature ratio(WSR), and body mass index(BMI) are commonly used for evaluating obesity. This Research were done to determine what is more sensitive obesity indexes(WC, WHR, WSR, BMI) Correlated with body composition such as body fat mass, body fat(%), visceral fat area, and fat free mass. And what is more sensitively correlated obesity indexes with % changes of body composition during weight reduction treatment. Methods : This clinical retrospective research were carried out 127 cases of female obese outpatients with weight reduction treatment during 1 month. Bioelectrical impedence analysis(for body composition) and body size(for anthropometric obesity indexes) were estimated in pre-treatment and post-treatment to evaluate the obesity indexes. Pearson correlation coefficients were used to select useful obesity index. Result & Conclusion : BMI is useful index for diagnosis and evaluation of obesity. WSR is sensitively correlated with visceral fat area and body fat(%). So, WSR is useful index for evaluating abdominal obesity and risk factors of metabolic syndrome. WC is correlated with both body fat mass and fat free mass. WHR is not optimal for diagnosis and evaluation of obesity.

  • According to the demand of the high productivity, the interest of manufacturing skills is growing in industrial society. Especially the high-speed spindle in machining center becomes important these days. The rotating accuracy of the spindle in machining center concerns the centrifugal force. In detail explaining, it is influenced by the unbalance mass. In this study, we could find changes of the vibration caused by condition (increased mass, rotating speed, position) of unbalance mass and verify it using a software - $ADAMS^(R)$ With this study, it will help workers on the spot solve the problems concerning unbalance mass.

  • Understanding the mechanisms that control and concentrate the observed electrospray ionisation (ESI) response from peptides is important. Controlling these mechanisms can improve signal-to-noise ratio in the mass spectrum, and enhances the generation of intact ions, and thus, improves the detection of peptides when analysing mixtures. The effects of different mixtures of aqueous: organic solvents (25, 50, 75%; v/v): formic acid solution (at pH 3.26) compositions on the ESI response and charge-state distribution (CSD) during mass spectrometry (MS) were determined in a group of biologically active peptides (molecular wt range 1.3 - 3.3 kDa). The ESI response is dependent on type of organic solvent in the mobile phase mixture and therefore, solvent choice affects optimal ion intensities. As expected, intact peptide ions gave a more intense ESI signal in polar protic solvent mixtures than in the low polarity solvent. However, for four out of the five analysed peptides, neither the ESI response nor the CSD were affected by the volatility of the solvent mixture. Therefore, in solvent mixtures, as the composition changes during the evaporation processes, the $pK_b$ of the amino acid composition is a better predictor of multiple charging of the peptides.

  • Kick motor(KM) for KSLV-I second stage propulsion system is the main hardware that is necessary for launching satellite to it's track. The mass of the kick motor changes with combustion time because the heat insulator is ablated and propellant is used and slag is piled up. We predicted mass change with the flight time using ground combustion data of KM composed of case, propellant, nozzle, ignitor and slag. The mass prediction of kick motor can be used for calculating the two stage mass and center of gravity history.

  • The railway has been developed largely by the characteristic factors of the railway through change of the society and culture. The railway trends has been changing from instinctive methods to settle the mass transport of the early days, to sensitive methods to pursue the railway culture centering around human being. As dividing by period according to the changes of railway trends into the external nation, there are to analyze the development history of the railway design. Accordingly each nation (United Kingdom, Germany, France, Japan) and the style's change, to confirm the changes into the design applied in society and culture needs, and to analyze by a year in changes of the environment and the railway history from the 1800's to 2005, so there contribute in the development of railway design to present the paradigm of the future railway by analyzing the trend according to the changes of railway design and the life environment in this paper.

  • The study of whole patterns of changes in protein expression and their modifications, or proteomics, presents both technological advances as well as formidable challenges to biological researchers. Nutrition research and the food sciences in general will be strongly influenced by the new knowledge generated by the proteomics approach. This review examines the different aspects of proteomics technologies, while emphasizing the value of consideration of "traditional" aspects of protein separation. These include the choice of the cell, the subcellular fraction, and the isolation and purification of the relevant protein fraction (if known) by protein chromatographic procedures. Qualitative and quantitative analyses of proteins and their peptides formed by proteolytic hydrolysis have been substantially enhanced by the development of mass spectrometry technologies in combination with nanoscale fluidics analysis. These are described, as are the pros and cons of each method in current use.
