정적연소기에서 토치의 체적 변화에 따른 메탄의 연소특성 파악 (A Study on Combustion Characteristic Methane Fuel according to Torch Volume Variation in a Constant Volume Combustion Chamber)

  • Six different size of torch-ignition device were applied in a constant volume combustion chamber for evaluating the effects of torch-ignition on combustion. The torch-ignition device was designed for six different volumes and same orifice size. The combustion pressures were measured to calculate the mass burn fraction and combustion enhancement rate. In addition, the flame propagations were visualized by shadowgraph method for the qualitative comparison. The result showed that the combustion pressure and mass burn fraction were increased when using the torch ignition device. And the combustion duration were decreased. The combustion enhancement rates of torch-ignition cases were improved in comparison with conventional spark ignition. Finally, the visualization results showed that the torch-ignition induced faster burn than conventional spark ignition due to the earlier transition to turbulent flame and larger flame surface, during the initial stage. Finally, the initial flame propagation was affected by torch-ignition volume.

  • 토치 점화 장치의 연소 특성을 파악하기 위하여 7개의 각기 다른 토치 점화 장치를 설계하였다. 토치 점화장치의 오리피스 직경에 따른 특성을 파악하기 위하여, 토치 점화 장치의 체적과 높이는 고정하고, 오리피스 직경을 4mm에서 16mm까지 2mm씩 증가시키며 실험하였다. 초기 화염 생성 및 전파는 질량 연소율과 연소 촉진율로 분석하였다. 질량 연소율과 연소 촉진율을 계산하기 위하여 정적 연소실 내의 평균 압력을 측정하였다. 또한 shadow graph법을 이용하여, 초기 화염 생성과 화염 전파과정 전 영역을 가시화하였다. 토치 점화 장치를 사용한 경우에는 일반적인 스파크 점화와 비교하여 질량 연소율의 기울기가 증가하였고, 연소 촉진율도 개선된것을 확인하였다. 또한 가시화된 이미지를 확인한 결과 토치 점화 장치를 사용하면 초기 화염 발달 단계에서 화염이 난류 화염으로 천이되어 연소가 촉진된것을 확인하였다.

  • An experimental study presents characteristics of combustion in a combustion chamber by port deactivation valve for economy and emissions standards. In order to use combustion properties data it is necessary to build some data base, which use cylinder pressure sensor, etc. Port deactivation valve has been developed to satisfy requirement of achieving sufficient swirl generation to improve the combustion. A feasibility and necessity of combustion pressure based cylinder spark timing control has been examined. So, this was obtained the Coefficient of Variation(COV) and the mass-burned(MFB). The characteristics of pressure ratio fraction is similar to that of mass-burned fraction. Using the results of the test, the effects of the combustion chamber can be improved combustion stability by port deactivation.

스파크 점화 엔진에서 희박연소의 전자제어 히스테리시스 현상에 관한 실험적 연구 (A Experimental Study on the Electronic Control Hysteresis Phenomenon of Lean Burn in Spark Ignition Engine)

  • Recently it is strongly required on lower fuel consumption. lower exhaust emission, higher engine performance. and social demands in a spark ignition gasoline engine. In this study. the experimental engine used at test. it has been modified the lean burn gasoline engine. and used the programmable engine management system, and connected the controller circuit which is designed for the engine control. At the parametric study of the engine experiment, it has been controlled with fuel injection, ignition timing. swirl mode, equivalence ratio engine dynamometer load and speed as the important factors governing the engine performance adaptively. It has been found the combustion characteristics to overcome the hysteresis phenomena between normal and lean air-fuel mixing ranges. by mean of the look-up table set up the mapping values. at the optimum conditions during the engine operation. As the result, it is found that the strength of the swirl flow with the variation of engine speed and load is effective on combustion characteristics to reduce the bandwidth of the hysteresis regions. The results show that mass fraction burned and heat release rate pattern with crank angle are reduced much rather, and brake specific fuel consumption is also reduced simultaneously.

  • A cylindrical constant volume combustion chamber was used to investigate the flow characteristics at spark plug and the combustion characteristics of inhomogeneous charge methane-air mixture under several parameters. The flow characteristics such as mean velocity and turbulence intensity was analyzed by hot wire anemometer. Combustion pressure development measured by piezoelectric pressure transducer was used to investigate the effect of initial charge pressure, excess air ratio and ignition times on combustion pressure and combustion duration. Mean velocity and turbulence intensity had the maximum value at 200 or 300ms and then decreased to beneath 0.05m/s gradually at 3 seconds. Second mixture is accompanied by an increase in the combustion rate, and that the higher the mass which is added in the second stage injection, the faster the burn rate.

  • 토치 점화 장치의 연소 특성을 파악하기 위하여 6개의 각기 다른 토치 점화 장치를 설계하였다. 토치 점화장치의 체적이 메탄의 연소특성에 미치는 영향을 파악하기 위하여, 토치점화 장치의 높이(h)와 오리피스 직경(De)는 10mm와 6mm로 고정하고, 입구 직경(D)을 12mm에서 22mm까지 2mm씩 증가시키며 토치 점화 장치를 설계하였다. 초기 화염 생성 및 전파는 질량 연소율과 연소 촉진율로 분석하였다. 질량 연소율과 연소 촉진율을 계산하기 위하여 정적 연소실 내의 평균 압력을 측정하였다. 또한 shadow graph법을 이용하여, 초기 화염 생성과 화염 전파과정 전 영역을 가시화하였다. 토치 점화 장치를 사용한 경우에는 일반적인 스파크 점화와 비교하여 질량 연소율의 기울기가 증가하였고, 연소 촉진율도 개선된것을 확인하였다. 토치 점화 장치의 체적이 증가할수록 연소가 개선되었으며, 넓은 점화 표면을 제공하였다.

SCV를 장착학 가솔린 가시화엔진에서의 연소특성 (Combustion Characteristics Using a S.I. Optically Acessible Engine with SCV)

  • This study describes the combustion characteristics under various condition of air excess ratio and ignition timing in a 2-valve gasoline optically accessible engine with swirl control valve(SCV). It adapted three different types of SCA(open ration 72.5%, 78%, 89%) to strengthen a swirl flow. Pressure data were acquired using pressure sensor to investigate the effect of swirl flow on combustion, and from these pressure data, IMEP(indicated mean effective pressure) and MFB(mass fraction burnt)were calculated to explain burn rate and flame speed. From acquired flame images, inspected the flame propagation direction, flame area, and flame centroid, Flame propagation direction was shown different tendency between with/without SCV, and flame area with SCV was faster and larger than that of conventional engine. Finally, the representative flame image at each crank angle were acquired by PDF method to verify flame growth process. It is found that strengthened swirl flow is more beneficial for faster and stable combustion.

  • Since the oil shock of 1970's there was a strong upward tendency for the use of the high viscosity and poorer quality fuels. Therefore the misfiring engine occurs due to the decrease of quantity injected for lean burn and emission control in CI diesel engine. In this study, it is designed and used the test bed which is installed with turbocharger and intercooler. In addition to equipped using CRDI by controlling injection timing with mapping modulator, it has been tested and analyzed the engine performance, combustion characteristics, and emission as operating parameters.
