  • A new scale named LCL(Logically Classified Level) has been developed to judge the status of the spasticity quantitatively implementing a pcndulum test in this study. Total 30 parameters have been used to develop the new scale. One representative parameter that can represent the dominant characteristics of spasticity has been chosen through statistical analysis. 20 parameters among 30 parameters uscd in the statistical analysis were newly developed and 10 parameters were from previous studies. The new 20 parametcrs were developed using combinations of pcndulum test characteristics. ie anglc, angular velocity. musclo midel. and EMG. 11 parameters among 30 parameters have showed strong correlations each other, Finally. L11 that showed consistency at every case has been chosen to be a representative parameter among the 11 parameters. 28 patients data were separated into 4 groups. A regression equation to predict the trend of patients of L11 has been made. The paramcter L11 was tested to prove its usabilitics for various cases of patients. The new LCL scale is expected to be a quantitative scale, and to replace the MAS(Modified Ashworth Scale) that is not a quantitative scale. Especially it is also expected that the new scale could be used to plan a treatmcnt period. methods, and intensity. as it can evaluate the status of patient's in detail.

  • In this paper we establish some recurrence relations satisfied by quotient moments of upper record values from the Pareto distribution. Let {$X_n,n\qeq1$}be a sequence of independent and identically distributed random variables with a common continuous distribution function(cdf) F($chi$) and probability density function(pdf) f($chi$). Let $Y_n\;=\;mas{X_1,X_2,...,X_n}$ for $ngeq1$. We say $X_{j}$ is an upper record value of {$X_{n},n\geq1$}, if $Y_{j}$$Y_{j-1}$,j>1. The indices at which the upper record values occur are given by the record times ${u( n)}n,\geq1$, where u(n) = min{j|j >u(n-l), $X_{j}$$X_{u(n-1)}$,n\qeq2$ and u(l) = 1. Suppose $X{\epsilon}PAR(\frac{1}{\beta},\frac{1}{\beta}$ then E$(\frac{{X^\tau}}_{u(m)}}{{X^{s+1}}_{u(n)})\;=\;\frac{1}{s}E$ E$(\frac{{X^\tau}}_{u(m)}{{X^s}_{u(n-1)}})$ - $\frac{(1+\betas)}{s}E(\frac{{X^\tau}_{u(m)}}{{X^s}_{u(n)}}$ and E$(\frac{{X^{\tau+1}}_{u(m)}}{{X^s}_{u(n)}})$ = $\frac{1}{(r+1)\beta}$ [E$(\frac{{X^{\tau+1}}}_u(m)}{{X^s}_{u(n-1)}})$ - E$(\frac{{X^{\tau+1}}_u(m)}}{{X^s}_{u(n-1)}})$ - (r+1)E$(\frac{{X^\tau}_{u(m)}}{{X^s}_{u(n)}})$]

  • Angiotensin-(1-9) [Ang-(1-9)], generated from Ang I by Ang II converting enzyme 2, has been reported to have protective effects on cardiac and vascular remodeling. However, there is no report about the effect of Ang-(1-9) on pulmonary hypertension. The aim of the present study is to investigate whether Ang-(1-9) improves pulmonary vascular remodeling in monocrotaline (MCT)-induced pulmonary hypertensive rats. Sprague-Dawley rats received Ang-(1-9) ($576{\mu}g/kg/day$) or saline via osmotic mini-pumps for 3 weeks. Three days after implantation of osmotic mini-pumps, 50 mg/kg MCT or vehicle were subcutaneously injected. MCT caused increases in right ventricular weight and systolic pressure, which were reduced by co-administration of Ang-(1-9). Ang-(1-9) also attenuated endothelial damage and medial hypertrophy of pulmonary arterioles as well as pulmonary fibrosis induced by MCT. The protective effects of Ang-(1-9) against pulmonary hypertension were inhibited by Ang type 2 receptor ($AT_2R$) blocker, but not by Mas receptor blocker. Additionally, the levels of LDH and inflammatory cytokines, such as $TNF-{\alpha}$, MCP-1, $IL-1{\beta}$, and IL-6, in plasma were lower in Ang-(1-9) co-treated MCT group than in vehicle-treated MCT group. Changes in expressions of apoptosis-related proteins such as Bax, Bcl2, Caspase-3 and -9 in the lung tissue of MCT rats were attenuated by the treatment with Ang-(1-9). These results indicate that Ang-(1-9) improves MCT-induced pulmonary hypertension by decreasing apoptosis and inflammatory reaction via $AT_2R$.

  • In order to utilize the processing wastes of squid, chitosan was prepared by intermittent deacetylation treaoent of $\beta-chitin$ contained richly in the pen of squid. Acetylchitosan also was synthesized from squid pen chitosan with anhydrous acetic acid and their characteristics were investigated. The amounts of nitrogen and ash of squid pen chitosan were $5.80.2\% and 0.2\pm0.03\%$ respectively, the yield of squid pen chitosan was $25\pm3\%$, the degree of deacetylation was $92\%$, and the molecular weight was $1.15\times10^6$, Acetyl contents of N-acetylchitosan powder, acetylchitosan bead, N-ACF-1 (N-acetylchitosan film-1) and N-ACF-2 (N-acetylchitosan film-2) were $55.9\%, 63.2\%, 56\% and 58.7\%$ respectively. Two major peaks, amide I ($1,653 cm^{-1}$) and II ($1,558 cm^{-1}$) bent, on FT-IR spectra of the N-acetylchitosan from squid pen were almost similar to these of $\beta-chitin$, While there was a broad single peak at $1,601 cm^{-1}$assigned to be an amide I bend in squid pen chitosan. The CP/MAS NMR spectra of $\beta-chitin$, squid pen chitosan and N-acetylchitosan from squid pen showed a relative broad and single peak at 74 ppm assigned to fifth carbon (C-5) and third carbon (C-3). In case of $\beta-chitin$ and N-acetylchitosan from squid pen, single peak at 74 ppm was showed as the same of $\beta-chitin$ type.

  • Pulmonary carcinosarcon!as are rare malignant tumors consisting of an admixture of epithelial and mas- enchymal elements of the type ordinarily seen in malignancies of adults. Compared with all pulmonary neoplasms it occurs with a frequency of 0.3% and has a strong association with smoking. Carcinosarcomas be divided into two clinicopathologic groups based on the locution of the lung: a solid parenchymal type and a central or endobronchial lesion Noninvasive diagnostic tests have a rather low yield in detecting carcinosarcoma. The most frequent metastatic sites are hilar and mediastinal Lymph nodes. Surgical resection is both diagnostic and the initial treatment. The prognosis is poor and average postoperative survival is 9 months. We report one case of pulmonary carcinosarcoma demonstrated by immunohlstochemical staining in a 61 year old male patient with a review of literatures.

  • The study purpose was to increase Han-bok's convenience by changing materials while maintaining keep the traditional Han-bok style. For this purpose we surveyed actual Han-Bok wearers about the inconveniences of its form and design by combining knit with Han-bok. On the basis of this survey, we present a practical design for use in daily fife. Responding to the question about Jeo-Go-Ri(jacket), most respondents preferred a Han-bok which stressed elasticity by utilizing knit on Jeo-Go-Ri's front and back body line(JD1, JD4). For the question about ann holes, most respondents liked a design which substituted knit materials for Sam-hoi-jang(colorful strips) to ensure ease of use and shorten both the width and length of the breast-tie(JD2, JD3). For the sleeve edge, they preferred a design which solved the difficulties of rolling up the sleeve when working ($JD2{\sim}JD5$). Regarding the most inconvenient aspect of wearing Chi-mas(skirts), the respondents indicated tightening of the breast and an uncomfortable feeling due to the skirt length. This suggested that the waist of the vest should be lengthened to avoid the feeling of pressure(CD2, CD5). Regarding changes to the skirt shape the respondents preferred buttons and hooks rather than using skirt strings(CD4, CD5).

  • We have developed an attitude sensing S/W system, one of modules of Mission Analysis System(MAS), which simulates attitude sensing data as almost the same as the real sensor of a satellite in orbit. When attitude elements($alpha, delta$) of a satellite and positions of Earth, Moon, and Sun are given, the S/W system calculates look angles and dihedral angles of each celestial bodies relative to the rotations axis of the satellite. It consists of two sub-modules : One is ephemeris service module which consider the perturbations of four planets(Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn) for positions of Sun and Moon and 4 $\times$4 earth gravitational potential terms for a satellite's position. The other is attitude simulation module which generates attitude sensing data. Varying the rotational axis of a satellite and it's orbital elements, we simulated the generating attitude sensing data with this S/W system and discussed their results.

  • To direct the evolution of nanostructure and immobilize ${\gamma}-Al_2O_3$ catalyst, nanocrystalline La-doped-$Al_2O_3$ powder were prepared by the sol-gel process with addition of an amphiphilic block copolymer template (pluronic P123: $(poly(ethyleneoxide)_{20}-poly(propyleneoxide)_{70}-poly(ethyleneoxide)_{20})$. The dried gel is amorphous, whereas heating at temperature above $700^{\circ}C$ leads to the formation of nanocrystalline ${\gamma}$ and ${\delta}-Al_2O_3$ and these two phases is kept until $1100^{\circ}C$. ${\alpha}-A1_2O_3 $starts to form at $1200^{\circ}C$ with $LaAl_{11}O_{18}$. The surface morphology and crystal structure has been observed by field emission scanning electron microscope (FE-SEM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD). Solid state $^{27}Al$ MAS NMR indicates two types of local environment, i.e. octahedral and tetrahedral sites. The surface area and pore size was compared among these powders using the BET nitrogen adsorption measurements.

  • Mullite precursors were synthesized with aluminosilicate gels from mixture of aluminum nitrate and sodium orthosilicate by the geopolymer technique at ambient temperature. Then, the gel was heat-treated in air up to $1200^{\circ}C$ at intervals of $100^{\circ}C$. Raw and heat-treated gels were characterized by TG-DTA, XRD, FTIR, $^{29}Si$ MAS-NMR, TEM. The result to examine the crystallization of behavior though DTA, the synthesized precursors were crystallized in the temperature range from $950^{\circ}C$ to $1050^{\circ}C$. The XRD results showed that the gel compositions were begun to crystallize at various temperature. Also, it was found that the precursors of M-4 begun to crystallize at about $950^{\circ}C$. The M-4 XRD peaks were characterized better than $M-1{\sim}M-3$ at $1000^{\circ}C$. The formation temperature of mullite in this study is much lower than that of previous sol-gel methods, which crystallized at up of $1200^{\circ}C$. TEM investigations revealed that the sample with 10 nm particle size was obtained via heat-treated at $1000^{\circ}C$ for M-4.

  • Ficus deltoidea Jack is an important and popular medicinal plant species found in the Malaysia. Plants are being collected and used based on morphology and authentication to prevent adulteration is not in practice. In this study, twenty-six accessions of F. deltoidea Jack were collected from Kelantan and Terengganu states of Peninsular Malaysia to examine their genetic similarities and differences using randomly amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD) technique. Out of 20 arbitrary primers, two primers (D-10 and D-11) were selected which produced reliable DNA polymorphism. D-10 and D-11 primers generated 138 RAPD bands ranging from 250 bp to 3000 bp. Ninety-nine of them were polymorphic loci (72%) and thirty-nine were nonpolymorphic loci (28%). A total of 56 bands with polymorphic loci were amplified with primer D-10 and analyzed by cluster analysis and UPGMA to present a dendrogram depicting the degree of genetic relationship among 26 accessions. Eight RAPD markers were sequenced to determine their identity. RAPD analysis showed the genetic diversity among 26 accessions of F. deltoidea Jack. The RAPD profile and RAPD marker sequences reported in this paper could be used in plant and/or plant material authentication. This study also suggested that RAPD can be a useful technique to study DNA polymorphism in F. deltoidea Jack.
