  • Because the structure of the economy is being changed from product-oriented and company-centered economy to service-oriented and customer-centered economy, and the market competition is varying with the competition of non-price factors, the importance for customer service of logistics system is being increased. Thus, the level of customer service should be represented as an element of the logistics decision and the facility location decision. The level of customer service provided by logistics system has an effect on customers\` purchase decisions, hence on the market demand. That is, the market demand is elastic for customer service as it is influenced by product price. Considering the effect of customer service on demand, this study develops the market area which each facility will serve. That area is circular, and distance norm is considered Euclidean and Rectilinear (or Manhattan) distance norm. The market demand for product at a particular area is affected by the level of customer service that facility provides, and the relationship between the market demand and the level of customer service is represented with a mathematical function.

  • With the shift of the electric power industry from a regulated monopoly structure to a competitive market environment, the focus of the transmission expansion planning has been moving from reliability-driven transmission expansion to market-based transmission expansion. In market-based transmission expansion, however, a growing demand for electricity, an increasing number of transmission bottlenecks, and the falling levels of transmission investment have created the need for an incentive to motivate investors. The expectation of profit serves as a motivational factor for market participants to invest in transmission expansion in a competitive market. To promote investment in transmission expansion, there is an increasing need for a systematic method to examine transmission expansion for investment incentives from multiple perspectives. In this paper, the transmission expansion problem in a competitive market environment is formulated from ISO and investors' perspectives. The proposed method uses parametric analysis to analyze benefits for investors to identify the most profitable location and amount for transmission addition. Numerical results are presented to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

  • The money market has been existing in various forms for a long time. Until 1972, however, the market had supplied mainly short-term loans of commercial banks and loans of informal money lenders to business corporations. There was no market for notes and commercial papers of business corporations. Consequently, business corporations had to rely primarily upon commercial banks for short-term credit loans to supplement their working capital. The interest rate on loans of commercial banks had been set below a free market equilibrium rate and thereby, generated excess demands for the loans. Unsatisfied potential borrowers thus had to turn to informal money lenders for short-term cerdit loans of prohibitively high interest rate. Since 1972 investment and finance companies have been operating in the money market and their role in mobilizing short-term loans is increasing. This paper aims at estimating the equilibrium size of the money market.

  • After the establishment of 'Staggers' Rail Legislation' in 1980, which established an atmosphere of free competition in rail freight transportation market, freight railway in America became larger and the proportion of freight railway in the market increased. In 2008, it took up 43% of the transportation market based on tonne/mile unit and the productivity of freight rail increased. On the other hand, in the case of Korea, the competing atmosphere is being set up under the influences of the renovation of the rail transportation industry in 2004. However, to make the rail transportation market more active and become more advanced, a lot of efforts are required to build a stronger foundation of free competition atmosphere. In this paper, we have deducted the political implications on the establishment of strengthened competition in Korean rail transportation industry from reviewing what kind of changes the rail transportation market in America went through and how it was developed. In this case, we have focused on the changes in industrial trend towards the restriction policy. Also influences of the deregulation policy after 1980 on the enhanced market efficiency were reviews.

  • Recently, Korea's electric industry is in the midst of a period of profound changes in the structure and function, including the introduction of market competition in the generation sector. Korea is in the early stages of market competition, so the market price is chosen by generation costs but will be chosen by bids in future. Therefore, the profits of generators is determined by market pool price and the prospects of pool price are very important for new capacity investment determination of generators and IPPs. This study analyzes hourly marginal costs and LOLP considering basic generation mix and characteristics, develops the relationship of pool price using the above in competition market, and proposes basic direction for profits variation and supply-demand analysis in the electric market in future.

  • The markets are the basic urban facilities for maintaining daily life. Although the urban structure changed rapidly and the population quickly concentrated in the city, the markets remained traditional and backward. To solve various problems in the small excess markets, the Seoul Metropolitan Government had pushed ahead with the market modernization plan since 1967. The purpose of this study is to analyze the process of establishing the market modernization plan and the progress of this project, and to identify the historical meaning of this plan. The results of this study as follows; The market modernization plan aimed to modernize market operation system as well as buildings, and the Government was able to achieve its first goal by enforcing the construction of high-rise buildings, as the markets were newly built with the relatively large scaled fireproof structures. Despite its various limitations, these markets were also regarded as the model of the modern market.

  • One of main findings of the competitiveness relation is rapid increase of Chinese influence on the southeast Asian market. While Japanese market share is decreasing, Chinese market share is continuously increasing in the market. It is the same regardless of types of production phases. Analysis based on gravity model shows that in general Chinese exports is crowding out Korean and Japanese export to the market. The magnitude of the effects on Korean exports is larger than on Japanese exports. Also, It is found that the directions of the effect of Chinese exports on Korean and Japanese exports are different by production phrases. For all processed goods, increase of Chinese exports decreases both Korean and Japanese exports to the market. However, for some final goods such as transport equipment and food & beverages for household, Chinese exports is increasing Korean and Japanese exports to the market.

The sampling frame for this study included 605 restaurant franchisees in the business-format franchising system in Korea and data were collected from 1 October 2009 to 28 February 2010. This study, from franchisees' views, investigated the relationship among franchisors' entrepreneurship, external environment, organizational structure(mechanistic-organic) and managerial performance, with structural equation modeling(SEM). The research findings were, firstly, external environment positively affected entrepreneurship which positively affected market orientation and managerial performance, and secondly, market orientation made franchisors select organic structure and heighten managerial performance. Also, external environment led franchisors to adopt organic structure and aggravated their managerial performance. The implications of these findings were as follows. Firstly, the more franchiors had initiatives, innovatedness and risk-taking attitudes, the higher they had managerial performances and market orientation. Secondly, franchisors should keep and heighten market share with keeping in mind with customer orientation, competition orientation, harmony between departments, long-term orientation and profitability. Thirdly, continuous and cautious environmental scanning was necessary because external restaurant environment made organizational structure being changed and managerial performance being aggravated.

  • The purpose of the present study is to build a model to determine the structure of long-term quasi-optimal rates of local and toll telephone services. The outline of this study is as follows : Telephone business, providing social goods, is capital-intensive industry which needs huge fixed cost to operate exchanges and telephone networks nationwide. The nature of above industry justifies the market structure of telephone business to be natural monopoly and makes a good reason for government's direct regulation, that is, price regulation. Three is a gap between the present rates and the quasi-optimal ones because some administrative processes intervene in rate making process before execution. On the above diagnostic basis, the present study made an empirical test for the optimality of present rates structure in connection with Ramsey-Boiteux model to maximize the sum of producer's and consumer's surplus and also the current study proposed a qusasi-optimal rates structure for better market performance. From the empirical analysis, we can deduce a policy recommendation the local price should be increased to 47% whereas toll price decreased to 24% in order to improve the net welfare worth of 32.6 billion won.
