Modes of Innovation and the National Systems of Innovation of the BRICS Economies

  • The Brazil, Russia, India China and South Africa (BRICS) group has emerged as a collection of large economies which are outside the traditional groups of industrialised "first world" economies and which have altered the global distribution of economic power. The basis of their emergence is a combination of their size and growth rates, and the fact that they lie outside the established centres of global economic power. As such, they have "diversified" the power base of the global economic order. The question which is asked in this paper is whether the phenomenon of the BRICS goes beyond this to mark the start of a possible challenge to the neoliberal orthodoxy which emerged as the globally dominant policy paradigm since the collapse of the Soviet Union. This paper develops and uses a "modes of innovation" approach to explore the potential of the BRICS to constitute a structural rupture in the current globally dominant neoliberal mode of innovation. This question is important since, in the absence of this rupture, the remarkable development trajectory of the BRICS will serve to reinforce the legitimacy of the global orthodoxy. The paper first articulates the modes of innovation concept and then proceeds to locate the BRICS systems of innovation within the current globally dominant mode. On this basis it then provides an appraisal of the possible impact of the BRICS on the evolutionary path of the global system of innovation.

생태체계적 관점에서 본 생애주기별 자살생각의 위험요인과 보호요인 (Risk and Protection Factor Related to Suicide Ideation in Each Life Course based on an Ecological-system Perspective)

  • The objective of this study was to identify the risk factor and protection factor related to suicide ideation in each life course based on an ecological-system perspective. A questionnaire was carried out for 393 adolescents, 473 adults and 376 aged men living nationwide. The results are as follows. First, the suicide ideation was low with 1.78 points in the full mark of 5 points. Second, the difference in suicide ideation, depression, hopelessness, stress in the organic system variables, family solidarity in the micro system variables, intermediate system variables, residence, the existence/inexistence of counselling center and the influence of mass media in mezo system variables in each life course were significant. Third, the relative influence of organic system variables on the suicide ideation were largest in all life courses. Further, the depression and the influence of mass media in all life courses were a risk factor of suicide ideation and stress was also a risk factor of suicide ideation in the case of adolescents and the aged. When examining protection factors of suicide ideation, family solidarity, minute as it is, works as the protection factor of suicide ideation in the case of adolescents. For the adults, living in a metropolis was a protection factor from suicide ideation. For the aged, family solidarity, family history of suicide and adult children's attention to their friends and neighbors (intermediate system variable) were protection factors from suicide ideation. I suggested that policy, service, counseling and educational program proper to each life course were necessary to lower risk factors of suicide ideation and to improve protection factors.

화상정렬 시스템을 이용한 잉크젯 반복인쇄기술 (For High Aspect Ratio of Conductive Line by Using Alignment System in Micro Patterning of Inkjet Industry)

  • 글씨 전도성 잉크의 인쇄공정에 있어서 반복인쇄를 정밀하게 수행할 수 있는 기술로서 align system을 개발하였다. 이 system의 resolution 은 0.5um 이며 인쇄 working plate의 이송속도는 최대 1.5m/s 이다. 현재 소성 공정을 포함한 반복인쇄 실험은 30um이상의 drop탄착점 오차를 보이고 있으며, 두께와 전기전도도 향상을 위한 정밀한 align system이 필요하게 되었다. 이를 충족시키기 위해 개발되어진 초정밀 align system은 $1{\sim}2{\mu}m$이내의 오차로 반복인쇄가 가능하며, head가 토출하는 잉크의 straightness 및 전도성 잉크를 토출하는 인쇄평가기의 기계적 정밀도도 확인할 수 있다. 모든 잉크 배선의 두께 항상 인쇄실험이 가능하며, substrate의 종류와 잉크에 제한적이지 않다. 특히 prototype의 기판배선을 위해 PCB에 배선을 형성할 시에 본 system으로 직접 align mark를 지정할 수 있어 기판 내에 미리 제작되어진 align용 인식마크가 불필요하다. 이 system을 이용하여 drop과 배선의 반복인쇄실험을 진행하였으며, 광학현미경과 3D profiler를 사용하여 분석해 보았다.

일개 종합병원 간호사의 간호업무 전산화 활용에 대한 연구 (A Survey on Nurses' Utilization of Computerization in Nursing Practice)

  • Purpose: The research studied to survey the degree of utilization, satisfactions and problems of the computerization in nursing practice. Method: The subjects were 176 nurses who are working at university hospital in Seoul. The research was operated by 75 questionaries which were developed and modified from precedence study of Kim(1998), No(1996) and Pang(1996). The data was processed by SPSS for window 11.0 and the results analyzed with number, percentile, average, t-test and ANOVA. Results: As the way of using computer system in nursing, the most nurses used that to Dr's order check, treatment activity, laboratory, barcode sticker, medication in order that were connected with order system mutually to other parts. The average degree of contentment from the computerization in nursing practice was presented as 3.855 in the full mark 5. The facility of stock management got the highest points(4.98). The problem was marked 3.12 and the biggest problem is interruption of work from the computer system error(4.03). The contentment of computerization in nursing practice by duty year was reflected a significant difference(F=5,457 P=0.005) and was not related with computerization and computer education(F=0.028 P=0.867, F=2.178 P=0.142).

Comparison of Characteristics of Gamma-Ray Imager Based on Coded Aperture by Varying the Thickness of the BGO Scintillator

  • Background: The conventional cerium-doped Gd2Al2Ga3O12 (GAGG(Ce)) scintillator-based gamma-ray imager has a bulky detector, which can lead to incorrect positioning of the gammaray source if the shielding against background radiation is not appropriately designed. In addition, portability is important in complex environments such as inside nuclear power plants, yet existing gamma-ray imager based on a tungsten mask tends to be weighty and therefore difficult to handle. Motivated by the need to develop a system that is not sensitive to background radiation and is portable, we changed the material of the scintillator and the coded aperture. Materials and Methods: The existing GAGG(Ce) was replaced with Bi4Ge3O12 (BGO), a scintillator with high gamma-ray detection efficiency but low energy resolution, and replaced the tungsten (W) used in the existing coded aperture with lead (Pb). Each BGO scintillator is pixelated with 144 elements (12 × 12), and each pixel has an area of 4 mm × 4 mm and the scintillator thickness ranges from 5 to 20 mm (5, 10, and 20 mm). A coded aperture consisting of Pb with a thickness of 20 mm was applied to the BGO scintillators of all thicknesses. Results and Discussion: Spectroscopic characterization, imaging performance, and image quality evaluation revealed the 10 mm-thick BGO scintillators enabled the portable gamma-ray imager to deliver optimal performance. Although its performance is slightly inferior to that of existing GAGG(Ce)-based gamma-ray imager, the results confirmed that the manufacturing cost and the system's overall weight can be reduced. Conclusion: Despite the spectral characteristics, imaging system performance, and image quality is slightly lower than that of GAGG(Ce), the results show that BGO scintillators are preferable for gamma-ray imaging systems in terms of cost and ease of deployment, and the proposed design is well worth applying to systems intended for use in areas that do not require high precision.

  • As one of the thermochemical water splitting hydrogen production cycles, which could be operated at the lower temperature below 1200 K, we investigated the feasibility of the cyclic operation of Ispra Mark 2 cycle with the addition of $ZrO_2$. The cycle is theoretically composed of three reaction steps; (1) 1st step($2MnO_2{\rightarrow}Mn_2O_3+0.5O_2$), (2) 2nd step($Mn_2O_3+4NaOH{\rightarrow}2Na_2O{\cdot}MnO_2+H_2+H_2O$) and (3) 3rd step($2Na_2O{\cdot}MnO_2H_2O{\rightarrow}4NaOH+2MnO_2$). From the TPR tests, the temperature ranges for $O_2$ production in 1st step and $H_2$ production in 2nd step were $550{\sim}750^{\circ}C$ and $650{\sim}750^{\circ}C$, respectively. In $MnO_2/Mn_2O_3/NaOH$ system, the formation of molten products due to the reaction between manganese oxides and NaOH were greatly decreased with the addition of $ZrO_2$. In addition, the results of a cyclic test were discussed with the viewpoint of $H_2$ production amounts and the feasibility of the process improvement.

Modeling and Optimizing Brightness Development in Peroxide Bleaching of Thermomechanical Pulp

  • Alkaline peroxide bleaching of chemi-mechanical pulp is a very complicated system where various process factors affect the bleacing performance and pulp properties. Traditional onefactor-at a time method is ineffective and costly infinding the optimal bleaching conditions. In this study, statistical experimental design and multiple regression method wre used to investigated the interactions among various bleaching factors and to find out the possbile maximal brightness development during one stage alkaline peroxide bleacing of TMP. The TMP was made from 10% Korean red pine and 90% Korean spruce and had an initial brightness of 54.5% ISO. the TMP was pretreated with EDTA(0.5% on O.D. pulp, 3% pulp consistency, 30$^{\circ}C$ for 60 minutes) and bleached in a 2 L Mark V Quantum Reactor at 750 rmp, 7.5% of bleaching consistency and with 0.05% magnesium sulfate addition. The ranges of chemical factors studied , based on oven-ried pulp, were 1-5% for hydrogen peroxide, 1-4% for sodium hydroxide and 1-4% for sodium silicate. The rages of reaction temperature and time were 50-90$^{\circ}C$ and 40-180minutes respectively. Interactions of hydrogen peroxide with alkali , time with temperature ature, alkali with time and silicate with temperature were found to be significant which means that hydrogen peroxide bleaching will be favored at stable concentration of perhydroxyl ion, relatively short time and low temperature, and high level of silicate. Mathematical model which has good predictability for target brightness in one stage peroxide bleaching can also be established easily. Base ion the model, maximal brightness of 70% ISO was found to at 50$^{\circ}C$ and 50 minutes by chemical additions of 5% for hydrogen peroxide, 3.2-3.4% for sodium hydroxide and 4% for silicate based on O.D. pulp. However, this result might not be suitable for situation where furnishes are different from ours, or different pretreatment is used, or bleaching carried out at different pulp consistency. In these cases it will be good to re-investigate the process by a similar methodology as was used in this study.

VLBI 자료처리 시스템의 데이터 전송에서 잡음방지에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Noise Reduction Method for Data Transmission of VLBI Data Processing System)

  • 한국천문연구원은 한일상관센터 (Korea-Japan Correlation Center, KJCC)에 2009년부터 한일공동VLBI상관기(Korea-Japan Joint VLBI Correlator, KJJVC)를 설치하여 운영하고 있다. 한일공동VLBI상관기는 한국우주전파관측망(Korean VLBI Network, KVN), VERA(VLBI Exploration of Radio Astrometry), JVN(Japanese VLBI Network) 및 공동 관측망 등에서 관측한 VLBI(Very Long Baseline Interferometer) 데이터를 상관처리하고, 과학적 목적을 위해 관측데이터를 처리하는 전용 계산기로 사용된다. KJJVC는 각 구성시스템 사이의 데이터 입출력 규격으로 VLBI 국제표준인 VSI(VLBI Standard Interface)를 따르고 있다. 특히 관측된 데이터를 상관처리하기 위해 고속재생기인 Mark5B시스템과 동기재생처리장치(Raw VLBI Data Buffer, RVDB) 사이에는 1024 Mbps급으로 데이터가 전송된다. 고속 데이터 전송에 있어 발생하는 전자기 방해 (Electromagnetic Interference, EMI)는 관측데이터의 손실을 야기 시키며, 전송 케이블의 길이가 길수록 손실 발생빈도가 많고, 디지털 데이터 신호의 전압레벨을 감소시켜 데이터 인식 오류를 초래한다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 VSI 규격의 통신에서 발생하는 EMI 잡음 정도를 측정하고, 데이터 손실을 최소화할 수 있는 방법으로 1) RC 필터를 사용한 방법, 2) Microstrip 라인을 이용한 임피던스 매칭, 3) Differential line driver를 이용한 신호 복원 방법 등을 제안하였다. 각 제안방법들의 유효성을 확인하기 위해 제안방법들은 시뮬레이션과 실험적인 구현을 통하여 성능시험을 수행하였으며, 각각의 제안 방법이 VSI 규격의 고속 데이터 전송에 유효함을 확인하였다.

VLBI 관측 데이터의 전송 알고리즘 개발과 서버와 RVDB 사이의 전송 시험 (Development of Transmission Algorithm of VLBI Observation Data and Transmission Experiment Between Server and RVDB)

  • 본 논문에서는 전파천문학에서 초고속 전송망을 위한 관측 데이터의 전송 알고리즘의 개발에 대해 기술한다. 전파망원경으로 관측한 VLBI 데이터 처리를 위한 전처리 과정으로, 데이터 전송 알고리즘은 대용량 스토리지 서버에 저장된 VLBI 데이터를 대전상관기의 동기재생처리장치(RVDB)에 1대 1 방식으로 동작하며 VDIF 규격과 VDIFCP, UDP 프로토콜을 사용한다. 제안방법은 대전상관기의 동기재생처리장치의 데이터 전송을 기다리고 있으면 대용량 스토리지 서버의 Mark5B VSI 규격으로 저장된 2048 Mbps 급 VLBI 관측 데이터를 읽은 후 UDP로 전송하는 방식이다. 제안방법의 유효성을 확인하기 위해 대용량 스토리지 서버와 RVDB OCTADDB 사이에 실제 VLBI 관측 데이터를 전송하고 전송 전후의 데이터에 대해 상관처리 시험을 수행한 후 결과를 비교하였으며, 데이터 전송손실이 없이 전송 전후의 결과가 동일함을 확인하였다. 향후 본 연구에서 개발한 데이터 전송 알고리즘은 KaVA 네트워크에서 e-VLBI로도 유용하게 활용할 수 있을 것으로 기대한다.

  • 논토양(土壤)에 수도(水稻)를 포함(包含)하여 그 전후작(前後作)으로 밭작물(作物)을 다모작(多毛作) 할 경우에 토양종류별(土壤種類別) 적성정도(適性程度)를 추정(推定) 할 수 있는 논토양다모작적성등급(土壤多毛作適性等級)을 구분(區分)코자 기초시험(基礎試驗)을 실시(實施)하고 적성등급구분(適性等級區分) 기준(基準)을 설정(設定)하였다. 기초시험결과(基礎試驗結果)는 전보(前報)에서 논(論)하였고 구분기준(區分基準) 및 주요결과(主要結果)는 다음과 같다. 1. 적성등급(適性等級) 구분요인(區分要因)은 잠재생산력을 대표(代表)한 토성(土性) 및 배수등급(排水等級), 화학적특성(化學的特性)(표토염농도(表土鹽濃度), 및 심토(心土)의 반응(反應)), 환경조건(環境條件)(경사도(傾斜度) 및 온량지수(溫量指數)) 그리고 지하수위(地下水位) 및 토양모재(土壤母材) 등(等)을 선택(選擇)하여 연역(演繹) 귀납(歸納) 절충식(折衷式) 인자별가중치(因子別加重値) 상승(相乘) 상가복합법(相加複合法)에 의한 이론적(理論的) 최상치(最上値)가 100 점(點)이 되도록 하였다. 91 점이상(點以上)인 토양(土壤)을 I급지(級地)로 하고 60 점이하(點以下)인 토양(土壤)을 V급지(級地)로 하되 10 점(點) 단위(單位)로 등분(等分)하였으며 등급별(等級別) 제한인자(制限因子)는 "물리성(物理性)" "화학성(化學性)" 및 "경사도(傾斜度)" 등(等) 3가지로 하되 2개까지 병기 가능(可能)토록 하였다. 2. 온량지수(溫量指數) 110 이상(以上)인 대부분(大部分)의 영남지역(嶺南地域)은 I급지(級地)가 19%, II급지(級地) 22.7%, III급지(級地) 44.7%, IV급지(級地) 11.5% 그리고 V급지(級地)가 2.1%로서 전국(全國)의 논토양(土壤) 급지별(級地別) 분포비율(分布比率)보다는 상급지비율(上級地比率)이 약간 높았다. 3. 토양별(土壤別) 총득점(總得點)과 생산력지수간에는 유의성(有意性)($r=.922^{**}$)이 인정(認定)되어 기준(基準)의 적합도(適合度)가 높은 것으로 볼 수 있었다.
