건기와 우기시 화원면 주변 해역의 수질 비교 (Water Quality in Hwawon Coastal Sea of Korea for Rainy and Dry Season)

  • 2006년 건기와 우기로 구분하여 연안개발 공사가 이루어지고 있는 해남군 화원면 주변 해역의 15개 정점과 하천 2개 지점 그리고 공사장 배출구 1개 지점에서 pH, 투명도, 염분, SS, DO, COD, ${NH_4}^+$-N, ${NO_2}^-+{NO_3}^-$-N, TN, TP, ${PO_4}^{3-}$-P을 분석한 결과, pH, 투명도, 염분, SS의 경우, 90 mm이상의 집중 강우가 있었던 8월에는 공사장의 배출구와 하천수의 유입구 인근의 해역의 표층수에서 강우에 의한 담수의 유입과 공사장의 배출수의 유입에 의한 영향이 뚜렷하게 나타났다. 하지만 그 외 지점에서는 정점 간, 수층 간 농도 차이가 나타나지 않았다. 예상과 달리 추계 건기에는 강한 바람에 의해 저층으로부터의 침전물질이 부유되어 SS의 농도가 하계의 강우시보다 더 높은 농도를 보였다. 그 외 COD, ${NH_4}^+$-N, TN, TP, ${PO_4}^{3-}$-P의 농도도 유사한 경향을 보였다. 따라서 공사로 인한 연안해역의 수질변화를 평가하기 위해서는 단순히 표층수의 수평적인 조사만으로 그 영향을 평가하기보다는 집중 강우에 의한 영향과 기상이나 해황특성, 침강특성이나 용출특성의 조사를 포함한 SS의 확산시뮬레이션 등으로부터 평가되어야 하겠다.

여자만의 수질관리를 위한 허용유입부하량 산정 (Assessment of Permissible Inflow Load for Water Quality Management in Yeoja Bay, Korea)

  • 여자만은 유기물 오염이 점차 진행되어 가고 있으며, 해역의 수질관리를 위하여 유역으로부터 유입하는 육상기인 오염물질을 GIS 기법을 이용하여 발생부하량과 배출부하량을 산정하였다. 목표수질을 달성하기 위해 해역의 환경용량을 초과하여 유입하는 육상오염물질의 양을 박스모델로 계산하여 삭감부하량과 허용유입부하량을 평가하였다. 여자만의 수질을 해역생활환경기준 I등급으로 회복하기 위한 허용부하량을 산정한 결과, 생물화학적산소요구량은 배출부하의 39.3%, 총인은 30.8%를 삭감해야 하고, 총질소의 경우 6.9%의 낮은 배출부하 삭감률을 나타내었다. 유역의 오염원 현황과 발생부하량 현황을 볼 때 토지계가 차지하는 오염부하 비중이 높고, 배출부하량에서도 가장 큰 비중을 차지하였다. 여자만의 해양환경 보호와 개선을 위해서는 육상기원 오염물질 중 점오염원 뿐만 아니라 축산계 및 토지계 부하 등 비점원 오염원에 대한 관리가 필요하다는 것을 시사한다.

화학적산소요구량을 이용한 하구해역의 해수중 유기물 기원 고찰 (A Study on the Origin of Organic Matter in Seawater in Korean Estuaries Using Chemical Oxygen Demand)

  • 본 연구에서는 우리나라의 주요하천인 한강, 금강, 영산강, 섬진강 그리고 낙동강의 하구에서 해수중 화학적산소요구량(COD)의 농도를 결정하는 주요 요인과 수질인자에 대해 고찰하였다. 주성분분석으로 얻어진 해수중 COD 농도를 결정하는 주요요인은 염분과 클로로필-a를 중심으로 한 외래성 기원과 자생공급으로 나타났으며, 그 외 해저 퇴적층의 유기물도 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 하구해역의 COD 농도를 결정하는 수질인자들의 기여도는 회귀식 기울기를 통해 평가하였다. 조사시기별로는 전체적으로 염분의 영향을 많이 받는 것으로 나타났으며, 4월과 8월에는 클로로필-a의 영향도 함께 받는 것으로 나타났다. 하구별로는 낙동강에서는 클로로필-a, 한강과 영산강에서는 염분, 금강에서는 염분과 함께 클로로필-a의 기여도가 각각 큰 것으로 나타났으며, 섬진강에서는 염분과 클로로필-a 모두 낮은 기여를 나타내었다.

  • 육상 양식장 수질 모니터링 시스템의 데이터 신뢰도 향상 및 효율적 시스템 운영을 위하여 현재 시험 운영중인 육상 해수 양식장과 해양환경정보망(완도조위관측소)의 수질 데이터를 비교 분석한다. 또한 수질 모니터링 시스템의 데이터 오류를 제거하고, 측정 데이터의 신뢰도를 높이는 방법으로 데이터 유효성 검증, 데이터 범위 필터, 데이터 변위 검사를 적용하여 비교 분석한다.

옹진군 어장관리해역 해제 및 변경 타당성 평가 (Feasibility of Changing or Canceling Designated Mariculture Management Areas in Ongjin-gun, Korea)

  • Some of the mariculture grounds near Ongjin-gun, Korea, were designated as mariculture management areas in 2007. Areas are so designated when the environmental quality of the mariculture ground deteriorates or there is an outbreak of hypoxia or harmful red tide that kills mariculture organisms. We surveyed the water and sediment quality and examined the mortality of mariculture organisms in the Ongjin-gun mariculture area. In a survey conducted in 2016, the water quality was better than the environmental quality standards for mariculture grounds, excepts for dissolved inorganic nitrogen, and the sediment quality was good. However, there was still mortality of mariculture organisms in some of the designated management areas. The areas that met the environmental quality standards should be delisted and the areas in which we observed mortality should be classified as management areas. This will enable the sustainable development of aquaculture and preserve healthy mariculture grounds.

  • Gonad maturation of Manila clam, Ruditapes philippinarum was induced in this study using a recirculation system over 8 weeks in early spring. Clams used in the experiment were collected in $15^{th}$ April 2010 from the west coast of Korea, as the surface water temperature remained $11^{\circ}C$. To induce gametogenesis and subsequent maturation seawater temperature was elevated $1^{\circ}C$ per day over 10 days to reach $20^{\circ}C$. For the experiment, clams were raised in 120 L quadrangle tank maintained with re-circulated seawater system over 57 days. Water quality parameters including the water temperature, salinity dissolved oxygen, ammonium ion and nitrate levels in the tanks were monitored daily. Mixture of concentrated microalgae including Tetraselmis, Isochrysis, Pavlova and Thalassiosira weissflogii was supplied to clams twice a day, and quantity of the daily ration was adjusted as 3% of clam body dry weight. Histology was applied to examine gonad maturation. Daily monitoring of the water quality parameters indicated that the recirculation system supplied suitable environment to Manila clam; the nitrogenous components stayed below toxic levels (< 0.2 mg/L). At the beginning of the study, clams were mostly in early developing stage. As the seawater temperature reached $20^{\circ}C$, 10 days after the experiment, 20% of clams reached late development at 12 days. First ripe clams were observed at 42 days and 40% of clams were in ripe and ready for spawning at the end of study, 57 days after the experiment. In this study, gametogenesis of Manila clam was successfully induced by elevating water temperature and supplying commercially produced microalgae in a recirculation tank system.

주성분분석에 의한 거금수도의 수질환경 및 식물플랑크톤 변동 요인 해석 (The analysis of variational characteristics on water quality and phytoplankton by principal component analysis(PCA) in Kogum-sudo, Southwestern part of Korea)

  • A study on the variational characteristics of water quality and phytoplankton biomass by principal component analysis(PCA) was carried out in Kogum-sudo from February to October in 1993. We analyzed PCA on biological factors such as chlorophyll a and phytoplankton cell numbers for centric and pennate diatoms, phytoflagellates, and total phytoplankton as well as physico-chemical factors as water temperature, salinity, transparency, dissolved oxygen(DO), saturation of DO, apparent oxygen utilization (AOU), chemical oxygen demand(COD), nutrient (ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, phosphate and silicate), N/P ratio and suspended solid(SS). The source of nutrients supply depended on the mineralization of organic matters and inputs of seawater from outside rather than runoff of freshwater. The phytoplankton biomass was changed within short interval period by nutrients change. And it was controlled by the combination of several environmental factors, especially of light intensity, ammonia and phosphate. The marine environmental characteristics were determined by the mineralization of organic matters in winter, by runoff of freshwater including high nutrients concentration in spring, by ammonia uptake and high phytoplankton productivity in summer, and phosphate supplied input seawater from outside of Kogeum-sudo in autumn. And Kogum-sudo was separated with 2 regions by score distributions of PCA. That is to say, one region was middle parts of straits which was characterized by the mixing seawater and the accumulated organic matters, other one region was Pungnam Bay and the water around Kogum Island which was done by high phytoplankyon biomass and productivity year-round.

Optimized pretreatment conditions for the environmental DNA (eDNA) analysis of Apostichopus japonicus

  • A non-destructive environmental DNA protocol for the genetic analysis of sea cucumber (Apostichopus japonicus) resources DNA was established. Among the several commercial DNA extraction kits, the DNeasy® Plant Mini Kit was selected as the best choice to obtain the high-quality genomic DNAs from the mucous sea cucumber. As the temperature and incubation time increased, the amount of extracted environmental DNA was also large, but it was judged that the increased amount did not affect as much as 2-3 times. Therefore, these conditions were not considered to be the main factors to consider in actual environmental DNA extraction. However, the amount of seawater relative to the size of the sample was judged as a major consideration, and a sufficient amount of environmental DNA for analysis was secured when stored within 1 min while stirring the volume of seawater corresponding to the total sea cucumber weight (g). In securing the environmental DNA of sea cucumbers, the mortality rate of sea cucumbers in all experiments was 0, and it was judged that the effects of sea cucumbers were not significant through this treatment. Through the results of this study, sea cucumber DNA research, which has been conducted in a destructive method, can be conducted non-destructively through environmental DNA analysis. Through this study, we have secured a standard protocol that can successfully extract the sea cucumber DNA through environmental DNA. It is not only excellent in terms of time and cost of traditional DNA analysis method currently used, but it is completely non-destructive in the ecosystem of the survey area. It is believed that the system can be transformed in a way that does not affect it. However, it is thought that various standard protocols should be established considering the characteristics of each type.

  • 해양광물자원은 크게 해저면에 부존되어 있는 해저광물자원과 해수 중에 녹아 있는 해수광물자원으로 대별된다. 해수에는 막대한 양의 유용광물이 녹아 있어 회수기술 개발이 완료되면 상업화 가능성이 큰 것으로 알려져 있다. 21세기에 들어 육상금속자원의 저품위화 및 매장량 고갈에 따라 자원 보유국들이 자원을 무기화 하는 경향이 심화되고 있다. 따라서 대부분의 금속자원을 수입에 의존하는 우리나라는 삼면이 바다인 지리적 특성을 살려 해수로부터 희유금속 회수기술 개발에 적극적으로 나설 필요가 있다. 본 연구에서 해수로부터 희유금속 회수관련 논문분석 결과, 미국이 495편의 논문을 게재하여 양적 질적으로 가장 우수한 것으로 나타났다. 연구기관별로 보면 Chinese Acad. Sci.가 152편의 논문을 게재하여 양적으로 많은 연구가 이루어졌으며, 31편의 논문을 게재한 Univ. Oxford는 질적으로 가장 우수한 것으로 나타났다.

Design of Closed Seawater Recirculating Aquaculture System for Korean Rockfish Sebastes schlegeli Culture

  • Recirculating aquaculture system (RAS) consists of different treatment compartments that maintain water quality within the ranges commonly recommended for fish cultures. However, common RASs still exert considerable environmental impact since concentrations of organic matter and nutrients in their effluents are high. Compared with the traditional RAS, the model RAS developed here use a sedimentation basin for digestion purposes and then use the released volatile organic matter to stimulate a denitrification process. Different treatment compartments for solids, total ammonia nitrogen, and nitrate removal have been reviewed. This paper provides the basic information on designing different treatment compartments as well as the engineering criteria in closed seawater RAS, consisting of circular tanks for fish cultures; dual drain systems, sedimentation basins and foam fractionators for removal of solids; nitrification biofilters for TAN removal; denitrification biofilters for nitrate removal; and aerators for aeration. The main purpose is to outline a common procedure in designing of closed RAS for marine fish culture with an emphasis on easy management and low expense, as well as reduction of the environmental impact.
