  • Fish species composition in eelgrass bed of Bongam on Hansando island, Korea was determined using monthly samples collected by a surf net from August 2009 to July 2010. A total of 30 species, 3,237 individuals and 6,850.1g of fish were collected. The dominant species were Gymnogobius heptacanthus, Rudarius ercodes, Takifugu niphobles, Chaenogobius annularis, Pterogobius elapoides and Syngnathus schlegeli which accounted for 86.7% of total number of individuals of fish collected. Eelgrass started growing from May ($DW61.9g/m^2$) showing a peak biomass in August ($DW81.6g/m^2$), and low values in November ($DW57.23g/m^2$) to February ($DW15.41g/m^2$). The fish assemblages in the eelgrass beds showed clear seasonal changes; the number of fish species and individuals were low from September to December 2009, and high from December 2009 to July 2010. Seasonal variation in species composition and abundance was related to the water temperature and standing crops of eelgrass.

  • A dietary comparison of yellow goosefish Lophius litulon in the South Sea and Yellow Sea was performed by analyzing stomach contents. Using a bottom trawl net from fisheries resources survey vessels of the National Institute of Fisheries Science, 326 individuals were collected from the South Sea and 166 individuals were collected from the Yellow Sea. The total length range of L. litulon was 5.3-68.4 cm for individuals collected from the South Sea and 7.5-55.1 cm for individuals collected from the Yellow Sea. Based on the index of relative importance and the variation in stomach contents by fish size, L. litulon was found to be a piscevore and a spatiotemporally opportunistic feeder fish that fed mainly on pisces. There were differences in the composition of the stomach contents by season, location, and the interaction between the season and the location. Thus, the diet of L. litulon is affected by the prey abundance and prey spectrum of the habitat.

  • Diet composition and feeding strategy of the largehead hairtail, Trichiurus japonicas were studied using 375 specimens collected by purse seine, set net fisheries and lure fishing from February 2021 to January 2022 in the southern sea of Korea. The anal length (AL) of these specimens was from 3.4~49.0 cm. T. japonicus fed majorly on Fishes (especially Engraulis japonicus) based on ranking index (%RI=99.3). Fishes were the main prey items for all size classes. T. japonicas also showed size-related dietary shift from E. japonicus to T. japonicus, Larimichthys polyactis and Engraulidae. Fishes were the main prey items for all seasons. The main fish prey during spring and summer was E. japonicus, but in the autumn and winter, the E. japonicus portion decreased, and T. japonicus, L. polyactis, and Engraulidae portion increased. T. japonicus were specialized feeders with E. japonicus as their dominant prey.

  • The commercial viability of heat exchanger is mainly dependent on its long-term fouling characteristic because the fouling increases the pressure loss and degrades the thermal performance of a heat exchanger. An experimental study was performed to investigate the characteristics of fluid flow and heat transfer in a fluidized bed heat exchanger with circulating various solid particles. The present work showed that the higher densities of particles had higher drag force coefficients, and the increases in heat transfer were in the order of sand, copper, steel, aluminum, and glass below Reynolds number of 5,000.

  • The angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) generates the powerful vasoconstrictor angiotensin II by removing the C-terminal dipeptide from the precursor decapeptide angiotensin I (1). The enzyme also inactivates the vasodilator bradykinin (2). There have been many studies on ACE inhibitory substances as functional in food, and ACE inhibitory peptides were isolated (3-5). • This study was intended to determine the maneuverability of the vessel CHARMBADA. When the rudder angle was at $10^{\circ}$, $20^{\circ}$ and $30^{\circ}$, the maximum advance by slow, half and full ahead were varied in the range of 523.6-131.3m, 528.8-177.2m and 530.6-219.7m, respectively. The maximum transfer was 799.9-181.3m, 792.1-232.8m and 807.7-316.9m, respectively. The turning circle ability was better during starboard turning. When the rudder angle was $10^{\circ}$, $20^{\circ}$ and $30^{\circ}$, variation in the maximum advances was 392.0m, 245.0m and 153.0m. The maximum transfer was 528.0m, 339.0m and 218.0m, respectively based on the regression equations. As the rudder angle became bigger, the maximum advance or maximum transfer became smaller by the exponential function. The advance inertia took 127sec, 145sec, 181sec each until the vessel speed was 7.0konts, 12.0konts, 17.0konts. The static inertia took 245sec, 269sec, 300sec each until the vessel speed was under 2.0konts and the advance distance was 114.4m, 181.2m, 197.0m each. Accordingly, the static inertia was inclined to increase to scale according to the increase in vessel speed. For the CHARMBADA, the smaller the rudder angle was, the much bigger the turning circle became due to adhesion to the skeg, thereby lowering the vessel's turning ability.
