  • A three-dimensional digital image processing technique is proposed to quantitatively predict the dispersion phenomena of oil droplet onto the surface of the water. This technique is able to get the dispersion rate of an oil droplet three-dimensionally just below the surface of the water over time. The obtained dispersion rate obtained through this technique is informative to the investigation into the relationship among the gravity, surface tensions between oil, water, and air. This technique is based upon the three-dimensional PIV(Particle Imaging Velocimetry) technique and its system mainly consists of a three CCD(Charge Coupled Device) cameras, an image grabber, and a host computer in which an image processing algorithm is adopted for the acquisition of dispersion rate oil an oil droplet.

  • This paper presents an information about the heat transfer characteristics of impinging jet in eletronic equipment with infrared image processing unit. There have been many experimental investigations and theoretical studies on impinging jet because of application in a wide variety of industrial process including electronic equipment. In this study, we used infrared image processing unit to visualize heat transfer characteristics of impinging jet in eletronic equipment. Infrared image processing unit is one of non-contact temperature measuring methods and it is possible to minimize flow resistance and this measurement is comparatively accurate. The main parameters are distance between nozz1e and heat source. Reynolds number is 6000.

  • The reduction of $CO_2$ emissions has been a key target in the Marine Industry since the IMO's Marine Environment Protection Committee published its findings in 2009. The representative emission index is termed as the EEDI (Energy Efficiency Design Index) for the new ships. Among various flow control techniques ever proposed, the air lubrication method is the one of most promising one in terms of practical applicability. The present study examines the basic characteristics of the flat plate test with intention of applying the air lubrication technology to the reduction of the resistance of a ship. Image analysis technique is proposed as a tool to quantify the effectiveness of the air lubrication method.

Automatic Estimation of Artemia Hatching Rate Using an Object Discrimination Method

  • Digital image processing is a process to analyze a large volume of information on digital images. In this study, Artemia hatching rate was measured by automatically classifying and counting cysts and larvae based on color imaging data from cyst hatching experiments using an image processing technique. The Artemia hatching rate estimation consists of a series of processes; a step to convert the scanned image data to a binary image data, a process to detect objects and to extract their shape information in the converted image data, an analysis step to choose an optimal discriminant function, and a step to recognize and classify the objects using the function. The function to classify Artemia cysts and larvae is optimally estimated based on the classification performance using the areas and the plan-form factors of the detected objects. The hatching rate using the image data obtained under the different experimental conditions was estimated in the range of 34-48%. It was shown that the maximum difference is about 19.7% and the average root-mean squared difference is about 10.9% as the difference between the results using an automatic counting (this study) and a manual counting were compared. This technique can be applied to biological specimen analysis using similar imaging information.

Study on the Risk Assessment of Collision Accidents Between Island Bridge and Ship Using an Image Processing Method (영상처리기법을 활용한 연도교와 선박간의 충돌사고 위험성 평가에 관한 연구)

  • Tourism projects through islands in the waters of Sinan-gun became active, and as a result, a total of 13 marine bridges connecting islands were completed. However, the marine bridge constructed in the fairway is dangerous for traffic. Particularly, in the case of the marine bridge connecting two islands, the width of the fairway is extremely narrow, therefore the risk is higher. In this study, we evaluated the risk of collision between marine bridge piers and ships using the IALA Waterway Risk Assessment Program (IWRAP), a risk assessment model for port waterways, based on a maritime traffic survey on the coastal bridge in Sinan-gun. The results, indicated that No.1 Sinan bridge had the highest probability of collision and most of the transit ships were coastal passenger ships. In addition, No.1 Sinan bridge was the place where the most collision accidents occurred among the marine bridge piers in the target sea, and the cause this study was analyzed. An analysis of the satellite images of the sea environment of No.1 Sinan bridge using an image processing method, confirmed that obstacles that could not be seen in the chart existed nearby the bridge. As a result, traffic was observed to be concentrated in one direction, unlike two-way traffic, which is a method of inducing traffic of bridges to avoid obstacles. The risk cause analysis method using the image processing technique of this study is expected to be used as a basic research method for analyzing the risk factors of island bridge in the future.

Hyperspectral Image Analysis Technology Based on Machine Learning for Marine Object Detection (해상 객체 탐지를 위한 머신러닝 기반의 초분광 영상 분석 기술)

  • In the event of a marine accident, the longer the exposure time to the sea increases, the faster the chance of survival decreases. However, because the search area of the sea is extremely wide compared to that of land, marine object detection technology based on the sensor mounted on a satellite or an aircraft must be applied rather than ship for an efficient search. The purpose of this study was to rapidly detect an object in the ocean using a hyperspectral image sensor mounted on an aircraft. The image captured by this sensor has a spatial resolution of 8,241 × 1,024, and is a large-capacity data comprising 127 spectra and a resolution of 0.7 m per pixel. In this study, a marine object detection model was developed that combines a seawater identification algorithm using DBSCAN and a density-based land removal algorithm to rapidly analyze large data. When the developed detection model was applied to the hyperspectral image, the performance of analyzing a sea area of about 5 km2 within 100 s was confirmed. In addition, to evaluate the detection accuracy of the developed model, hyperspectral images of the Mokpo, Gunsan, and Yeosu regions were taken using an aircraft. As a result, ships in the experimental image could be detected with an accuracy of 90 %. The technology developed in this study is expected to be utilized as important information to support the search and rescue activities of small ships and human life.

The Effect of Selection Factors of Marine Transportation Service on Transaction Continuity

  • The selection factors of service companies have changed in accordance with intensifying competition in the marine transportation service market and environment changes of transportation services. To explore the important factors of customer choice to marine transportation service, this study empirically examines the influence of these selection factors; service provision area, price competitiveness, corporate image, service expertise, and sales support, on transaction continuity through customers' perceived service value and satisfaction. Based on an online survey with those in the Korean marine transportation industry, this study conducted statistical analyses using structural equation modeling. Based on relevant previous studies, the current study constructed a total of 55 survey questions. Finally, 213 questionnaires were collected. Among the five selection factors, corporate image did not affect perceived service value, and price competitiveness was still the most important factor. However, service expertise and sales support were found to be more important factors than regional factors. In order to maintain transaction continuity, shipping companies should also strive to improve their service quality to their customers. In particular, service quality strategies focused on time and regional factors should develop to strategies with the key factors for the changed business environment.

A Study of imagination of Brand Personality on Marine Tourism Destination (해양관광지 브랜드 개성의 이미지화 효과에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of Brand Personality to Marine Tourism Destination Images and Intention to Recommend. For this purpose, factor analysis was applied to 42 of J.Aaker's Brand Personality Scale and 5 personality dimensions were extracted. This analysis was also applied for cognitive and affective images and two of cognitive images and three of affective images were extracted. Multiple regression was done to estimate the relative effects of Brand Personality to both cognitive and affective images and intention to recommend. The results indicated brand personality influenced on both cognitive and affective images and intention to recommend directly and also found affective images was influenced by cognitive images. The results also suggested useful insight for future study. The Brand Personality Scale which developed for the product by Aaker might not be suitable for measuring the marine tourism destination brand personality and necessary to develop the new scale suitable for marine tourism destination personality, and be needed to study together with other moderating variance such as satisfaction and congruency with image to verifying the exact effect between different variables.

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze the effect of ski class satisfaction on re-participation of ski focused on double mediations of professor and education images. The results of this study were summarized in the following. Firstly, the satisfaction of ski class was statistically positive effect on re-participation of ski. Second, the indirect effect of the satisfaction of ski on re-participation of ski through the image of professor was statistically positive significant. Third, the indirect effect of the satisfaction of ski on re-participation of ski through the education image was statistically insignificant. Lastly, the indirect effect of the satisfaction of ski on re-participation of ski through the image of professor and education image was statistically insignificant. This result indicated that there was no the relationship of satisfaction of ski and re-participation through the double mediations which were professor and education images.

A Study on a Prototype for the Development of a Marine Character Based on the 『Jasan-urbo』 (자산어보를 토대로 한 해양캐릭터 개발을 위한 원형 연구)

  • In this study, we propose a marine character prototype study for development of a marine character as digital contents. This study is a precedent study to build a marine character database with the production of digital contents based on "Jasan-urbo". "Jasan-urbo" is a representative cultural heritage that can highlight the value of Korean marine culture as the first illustrated book of marine creatures in Korea. Therefore, we examined the use value of "Jasan-urbo" through the content approach and looked at the visualization for character utilization and then designed a marine fish species classification standard model. Finally, this study proposed the possibility of discovering prototype sources for digitalization of Korean marine creature's resources.
