  • Despite its economic importance as an aquaculture species, the molecular and genetic information regarding physiologically important elements in rock bream (Oplegnathus fasciatus) is not completely understood. Rab proteins play a vital role in cellular mechanisms and immunity as one of the key regulators of membrane trafficking. In this investigation, a Rab gene, named as RbRab-5C-like, was identified from Oplegnathus fasciatus. RbRab-5C-like protein exhibited high homology with Rab proteins of other species and possessed signature characteristics of Rab proteins with four conserved cysteine residues. Phylogenetic analysis showed that RbRab-5C-like clustered with other fish counterparts. The RbRab-5C-like genomic sequence possesses six exons and five introns. Transcriptional analysis revealed that RbRab-5C-like was ubiquitously expressed in all examined tissues with the highest expression occurring in the liver. While the structural and homologic characteristics of RbRab-5C-like suggest a strong conservation of this element in different species, its mRNA distribution implies a wide range of biological significance in rock bream.

  • This study investigated the dif usion characteristics of Ecklonia cava spores around marine forest reefs. For this purpose, a numerical analysis was conducted using field observations in the target area and an EFDC model. Based on the results of field observations and the EFDC model, Flow-3D was performed on three types of marine forest reefs, mamely triangular pyramid reef, double-dome reef, and ribbed reef, to monitor the movement direction and maximum movement distance for E. cava spores. As a result, the equilaterally triangular pyramid reef and double-domed reef were found to have a maximum settlement of spores of 10 m in the northwestern direction and 6 m in the western direction. The ribbed reef had a maximum settlement of spores at 4m. These results show that consideration of the diffusion characteristics of E. cava spores when the seaweeds are installed can increase the effectiveness of the algae as substrate of adhesion.

  • The primary objective of this study was to gain insight into the characteristics of algal blooms in relation to the marine environment of the Korean Southern Coast, using more than 22 years worth of data since the first known occurrence of algal blooms. Algal blooms tend to occur when the precipitation or water temperature for a ten-day period prior to the annual bloom exceeds the long-term mean value. There are three notable causative species in six different inner bays, namely Prorocentrum sp., Skeletonema costatum, and Heterosigma akashiwo, and in addition, these three species appeared in different conditions of water temperature and salinity at each region.

  • A massive amount of marine clay produced as dredging of coast and sea bed is often dumped in open sea and filled in pond. The treatment of marine clay demand a large area and make fatal environmental problems for echo system. This research work intend to manufacture a light-weight landfill materials which are produced by mixing the dredged marine clay with various amount cement and foam. An extensive Uniaxial and Triaxial compression test are carried out to investigate the strength characteristics of the light-weight cement mixed marine clay with foam under various test conditions. The results indicated that the required unit weight has been achieved with negligible change after 28days curing time in water. It is also recognized that the compressive strength of light-weight landfill materials linearly decrease with increasing initial water content, and the rate of strength decrease with increasing initial water content in water curing was smaller than that of air curing Futhermore, the rate of strength decreased with increasing initial water content, however, the rate become smaller as cement content increased.

  • Gamcheon harbor was developed as a multipurpose port to mix processing functions of exclusive piers for bulk cargo such as marine products, domestic cargoes. Since the container terminal was opened in 1997, maximum $40,000\sim50,000$ DWT containership have been incoming and outgoing. However, bemuse the breakwater entrance in Gamcheon harbor is narrow and the crossed vessels are ever-present at breakwater front, marine accident danger is high that grasping traffic characteristics is required in reply. Therefore marine traffic characteristics were analyzed for Gamcheon harbor and Gamcheon approaching waters, included the track and traffic volumes of peak hours period in inbound/outbound and front sea area of the harbor in present.

  • Digital Twin is positioned as one of the establishment of a digital management system for core infrastructure in terms of collecting real data and implementing virtual space. However, there are currently no integrated three-dimensional marine information analysis tools and technologies in Korea, and unlike land, new 3D modeling technologies and data processing technologies are required to digitize flexible marine information, but there are limitations in implementation. Therefore, this study aims to present development directions in four areas: structure, data, modeling, and utilization platform of marine digital twin by analyzing trends related to marine digital twin and digital twin technology elements.

  • In order to aid the researchers who analyze the biotoxins in marine molluscs, this paper introduces the official names and ecological characteristics of the domestically produced or distributed bivalve and gastropods that can be contaminated with marine biotoxins. Also, the paper intends to inform the location and scientific name of each organ of the representative group of species through anatomical maps. In the future, it is necessary to standardize and normalize the names of the species and the research institutions in food codes, scholarly papers and reports on the marine biotoxin analysis.

  • Marine ships have played an important role as a carrier, transporting much more than 80% of all international trading, and marine transportation is an internationally competitive, strategic, and great national important industry. However, those marine ships have the characteristics such as voyage of long distance, large-volume and lower speed than the other carry system. Therefore, it is important to manufacture a larger and faster ship, however, the steel plates which are consisted with most of those ships has brought about many corrosion problems in sea water such as general corrosion, localized corrosion, cavitation and erosion corrosion etc.. Most hulls of the ships have been protected with paintings, sacrificial anode, marine growth prevention system, and impressed current cathodic protection methods against numerious corrosion problems mentioned above. However, these conventional methods are not very effective because the rudder of ships stern are exposed to very severe corrosive environment such as tides, speeds of ships, cavitations and erosion corrosion, etc.. In this study, electrochemical and cavitation characteristics was investigated for the rudder material of ship which is exposed to serious corrosive environment. As a result, it is considered that the optimum cathodic protection potentials of rudder material is the range of -0.6 V ~ -0.8 V(Ag/AgCl) in static seawater.
