  • Marine pilot occupational accidents during transfer to/from the ship are at the top of the agenda after several safety campaigns by IMPA and individual attemptsThere is multiple transfer method for the marine pilot, but a most common way is to use the pilot cutter. This paper aims to predict marine pilot occupational accidents before it occurs by using historical data. Since the problem depends on several variables, this paper develops a model by using the random forest method to predict marine pilot accidents before happening with the random forest method by using RStudio software

BSC-AHP-IPA를 활용한 바다숲 조성사업의 운영성과 평가에 관한 연구 (A Study on Operational Performance Evaluation of Marine Forest Creation project by BSC, AHP and IPA)

  • This study focuses on developing a theoretical framework for evaluating Operational Performance of the Marine Forest Creation project on a balanced and comprehensive perspective by using BSC, AHP, and IPA. Also, the purpose of this study is empirically to analyze operational performance of the project and to suggest the future improvement plan. For this purpose, We will first determine the critical success factors(CSF) and key performance indicators(KPI) required for evaluating the performance of the Marine Forest Creation project from the four perspectives of BSC. And, After determining the weight for each of CSF, KPI, and four perspectives of BSC by using AHP, we will measure the project performance. We will also conduct IPA analysis to propose the direction of improvement of the Marine Forest Creation project. The results of this study are as follows. First, this study has drawn 8 critical success factors and 16 key performance indicators for four BSC perspectives based on the theoretical considerations and expert interview survey. Second, as a result of deriving relative importance of BSC perspectives using AHP, customer perspective was the highest, followed by financial perspective, learning and growth perspective, and internal process perspective. Third, as the results of analyzing the importance and performance of BSC perspectives using IPA, customer perspective was the maintenance reinforcement category, financial perspective was the key improvement category, internal process perspective and learning and growth perspective were gradual improvement category. This study has a great academic significance in terms of BSC first tried to evaluate the performance of the Marine Forest Creation project. The results of this study are expected to lead to various discussions for a balanced and comprehensive verification of Marine Forest Creation project performance.

해중림초 주변의 감태 포자확산 특성 (Diffusion Characteristics of Ecklonia cava Spores around Marine Forest Reefs)

  • 본 연구는 해중림초 주변에서의 감태 포자의 확산 특성에 알아보기 위하여 연구를 수행하였다. 이를 위해 대상해역에서의 현장관측과 EFDC를 활용하여 수치모형실험을 실시하였다. 또한, 앞선 결과를 바탕으로 대상해역에 설치된 해중림초 중 3개종(정삼각뿔형어초, 이중돔형어초, 날개부를가진어초)에 대하여 Flow-3D를 이용한 수치모형실험을 실시하여 실해역 흐름 재현을 통한 포자이동 방향 및 최대 이동거리를 도출하고자 하였다. 연구결과, 정삼각뿔형어초와 이중돔형어초의 경우 포자의 최대 안착지점은 북서쪽 방향으로 10 m, 서쪽방향으로 6 m로 나타났다. 날개부를가진어초의 경우 포자가 해중림초 주변 4m지점에서 최대 안착을 하였다. 이러한 결과는 해중림초 설치시 감태 포자의 확산특성을 고려하여 배치하였을 경우 포자의 이동에 따른 해조류의 부착기질로서의 기능에 대한 효과가 증대될 것으로 판단된다.

Physiological and psychological effects of nature-based outdoor activities on firefighters in South Korea

  • This study investigates the physiological and psychological effects of a nature-based outdoor activity program in an environment reflecting the characteristics of forest and coastal areas on 30 firefighters (average age: 40.4 ± 9.8 years) who are frequently exposed to dangerous situations. Blood pressure, pulse pressure, and heart rate variability were used as physiological measurement indicators, and the Korean versions of PANAS (positive affect and negative affect schedule), WEMWBS (Warwick-Edinburgh mental well-being scale), and PRS (perceived restorativeness scale) were used as psychological measurement indicators. For four days and three nights, the participants experienced programs at Hallyeohaesang Nature Center and the surrounding mountains, seas, and islands, utilizing forest resources such as trekking on forest trails, walking barefoot, taking aromatic footbaths, meditating in forest oxygen domes, and lying on relaxation chairs, and programs utilizing marine resources such as taking a boat to an island, walking on forest trails with seascape views, and sailing on a yacht. Participants' systolic blood pressure and pulse pressure decreased, and participants' positive emotions increased and negative emotions decreased after the program. There was a statistically significant increase in mental well-being and perceived restorative environment. Through this study, it was found that nature-based outdoor activity programs based on forest and marine resources are effective in physiological and psychological stability of firefighters. It is hoped that the results of this study will be applied to other high-risk workers for PTSD, who have high stress levels, by combining forest healing and marine healing, and expanding the scope and diversity of programs in more diverse environments and conditions.

Anthocyanins from Hibiscus Syriacus Inhibit Melanogenesis by Activating the ERK Signaling Pathway

  • Hibiscus syriacus exhibited promising potential as a new source of food and colorants containing various anthocyanins. However, the function of anthocyanins from H. syriacus has not been investigated. In the current study, we evaluated whether anthocyanins from the H. syriacus varieties Pulsae and Paektanshim (PS and PTS) inhibit melanin biogenesis. B16F10 cells and zebrafish larvae were exposed to PS and PTS in the presence or absence of ${\alpha}$-melanocyte-stimulating hormone (${\alpha}$-MSH), and melanin contents accompanied by its regulating genes and proteins were analyzed. PS and PTS moderately downregulated mushroom tyrosinase activity in vitro, but significantly decreased extracellular and intracellular melanin production in B16F10 cells, and inhibited ${\alpha}$-MSH-induced expression of microphthalmia-associated transcription factor (MITF) and tyrosinase. PS and PTS also attenuated pigmentation in ${\alpha}$-MSH-stimulated zebrafish larvae. Furthermore, PS and PTS activated the phosphorylation of extracellular signal-regulated kinase (ERK), whereas PD98059, a specific ERK inhibitor, completely reversed PS- and PTS-mediated anti-melanogenic activity in B16F10 cells and zebrafish larvae, which indicates that PS- and PTS-mediated anti-melanogenic activity is due to ERK activation. Moreover, chromatography data showed that PS and PTS possessed 17 identical anthocyanins as a negative regulator of ERK. These findings suggested that anthocyanins from PS and PTS inhibited melanogenesis in vitro and in vivo by activating the ERK signaling pathway.

해양환경 예측정보를 활용한 인공지능 분석 기반의 최적 안전항로 연구 (Research on optimal safety ship-route based on artificial intelligence analysis using marine environment prediction)

  • 최근 스마트선박 개발에 발맞춰 정확하고 세밀한 실시간 해양환경 예측정보의 요구가 확대되고 선박에 직접 지원하기 위한 환경이 확보됨에 따라 최적항로 분야에서도 다양한 해양환경을 고려한 정보 생산 및 평가 연구가 필요하다. 스마트선박에서 해양환경의 위험도 및 에너지 소비의 불확실성을 줄이면서 최적항로를 산출할 수 있는 알고리즘은 2단계로 구분하여 개발하였다. 1단계는 해양환경정보들과 선박자동식별시스템(AIS)내에 선박의 위치·상태정보를 결합해 프로파일을 생성하였다. 2단계는 구성한 프로파일 결과를 이용하여 해양환경 에너지맵을 정의할 수 있는 모델을 개발하였고, 약 60만개의 데이터를 반영할 수 있도록 인공지능 머신러닝 기법 중 Random Forest를 적용하여 회귀식을 생성하였다. Random Forest 회귀 모델의 결정계수(R2)는 0.89 를 보였다. 생성한 모델에 2021년 6월 1일~3일의 해양환경 예측정보를 이용하여 Dijikstra 최단경로 알고리즘을 적용해 최적 안전항로를 산출하고 맵에 표출했다. Random Forest 회귀 모델로 산출된 항로는 유선적이고 해양환경 예측정보의 상태를 감안하며 항로를 도출하는 결과를 보였다. 본 연구의 실시간 해양환경 예측정보 기반의 항로 산출 개념은 선박의 이동 경향성을 반영한 현실적이면서 안전한 항로 산출이 가능하고, 향후 경제성, 안전성, 친환경성 평가 모델로 범위로 확대할 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.

산림생태계의 구성요소와 서비스의 정량화 연구 (Quantification of the Forest Ecosystem Components and Services)

  • As a result of human's behaviour, ecosystem services are declining in present. This impact of the reason is turning back to human lives. In order to realize relationship between these ecosystems and humans, it is important that we take education about ecosystem. This study identified the components and services of the forest ecosystem which accounts for 64% of Korea's land. The forest ecosystem has various benefits called the ecosystem service. The purpose of this study is to realize the value and importance of forest ecosystem through the quantification of ecosystem components and services. Therefore, we identify the organic relationship of the ecosystem by System ecology. This study of quantitative, systemic and scientific approach will be a way for promoting the importance of the forest ecosystem.

  • Wetlands perform various functions of vital socio-ecological significance playing fundamental role in moderating monsoon tidal floods and coastal protection and generate goods and products such as fish and forest resources. The depletion of mangroves is a cause of serious environmental and economic concern to many developing countries. Problems of sustainability of mangrove ecosystems are not only technical but also socio-economic. Functions played by mangrove wetlands are of fundamental importance for society. The present study aims to identify the challenges of the mangrove wetlands of Southeast coast of Chittagong, their uses and socio-economic influence on local people, and the value of ecosystem services, and to suggest how to conserve this ecosystem in a more equitable way.

NDVI RESPONSES TO THE FOREST CANOPY AND FLOOR IN EASTERN SIBERIA

  • We discuss the Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) of the forest canopy and floor separately based on airborne spectral reflectance measurements and simultaneous airborne land surface images acquired around Yakutsk, Siberia in 2000. The aerial land surface images were visually classified into four forest types: no-green canopy and snow floor (Type-1), green canopy and snow floor (Type-2), no-green canopy and no-snow floor (Type-3), and green canopy and no-snow floor (Type-4). The mean NDVI was calculated for these four types. Although Type-2 had green canopy, the NDVI was rather small (0.17) because of high reflection from the snow cover on the floor. Type-3, which had no green canopy, indicated considerably large NDVI (0.45) due to the greenness of the floor. Type-4 had the largest NDVI (0.75) because of the greenness of both the canopy and floor. These results reveal that the NDVI depends considerably on forest floor greenness and snow cover in addition to canopy greenness.

多島海 海上國立公園內의 常綠闊葉樹林에 對한 植物社會學的 硏究 - 鳥島群島의 植生을 中心으로 - (Phytosociological Study on the Evergreen Broad-Leaved Forest in Dadohae National Marine Park -The Vegetation of Chodo Archipelago-)

  • Chodo Archipelago ($125^{\circ}$45 $-126^{\circ}$13 E and $34^{\circ}$15 $-34^{\circ}$25 N, ca. $56.7km^2$), a part of the Dadohae National Marine Park, largely is covered with substitutional vegetation under various human impact such as grazing, cutting for firewood. However natural vegetation is partially distributed in the tutelary shrine forests, deep valleys and etc. From October 1988 to June 1989, phytosociological investigation of this forest vegetation was carried out by Braun-Blanquet s method. The forest vegetation was classified into 1 association and 7 communities. Ardisio-Castanopsietum sieboldii, Machilus thunbergii, Quercus acuta, Litsea japonca, Eurya japonica-Pinus thunbergii mixed forest, Pinus densiflora, Pinus rigida afforestation. Carpinus coreana community. Based on the classification, the actual vegetation map was drawn in 1 : 50,000 scale.
