Since it was developed by Joseph Aspdin, cement has been a common construction materials up to the present time. However, there are trace constituents in cement clinker. One of the trace constituents included in cement clinker, chromium, has become prominent and highly noticed lately as a social issue both inside and outside of this country because it affects the human body negatively. The aim of the present study was to investigate the concentration of water-soluble hexavalent chromium in cement clinker by using industrial by-products. For that reason, raw materials were prepared to add different $SiO_2$, $Al_2O_3$, and $Fe_2O_3$ sources. After the raw materials such as the limestone, the sand and the clay, iron ore was pulverized and mixed, and the raw meal was burnt at about $1450^{\circ}C$ in a furnace with an oxidizing atmosphere. The part in the raw materials of the clinker was substituted with slag, sludge, etc. and this was used to manufacturing cement clinker. To investigate the water-soluble hexavalent chromium content in clinker, raw meal was prepared by changing the modulus, the type, and the content of clinker materials and tested concentrations of hexavalent chromium in the clinkers. To determine $Cr^{+6}$ formation of the clinker, tests were done with raw meals adding chromium by using different industrial by-products. Consequently because the chromium was to be included in the raw materials of the clinker, production of Portland cement clinker was included with the chromium. Also, the chromium was converted into hexavalent chromium in the burning process.

This study was conducted to explore the optimum proportion of zeolite and zeolite-kaolin as additives to cement clinker and gypsum samples, while maintaining the strength properties of produced environmentally sustainable cements. According to the British standard method, zeolite was added to cement clinker in proportions of 5-12% and 10-12% by weight, respectively, in the preparation of samples of zeolite-containing cement and zeolite-kaolin-based cement. Kaolin was used as a second additive as 10-20% of the total weight. The compressive strength tests were performed on base cement samples according to a standard procedure given in ASTM C109 Compressive Strength of Hydraulic Cement. These values were compared with those of the reference sample and the Omani allowable limits. The results indicated that the best compressive strength values were obtained with 88% cement clinker, 5% gypsum, and 7% zeolite for the zeolite-containing cement. Quantities of 70% cement clinker, 5% gypsum, 10% zeolite, and 15% kaolin gave the best results for zeolite-kaolin-based cement, resulting in a substitution of than 25% cement clinker. The study concluded that the partial cement clinker replacement using zeolite/kaolin combination may have a great influence on the reduction of $CO_2$ emission and energy saving in cement manufacturing.

By applying coarse-grained limestone and unprocessed coal ash as sintering raw materials for cement clinker, the microstructure and distribution of chemical components of cement clinker were compared and examined. Samples using coarse limestone as a raw material for cement clinker showed a decrease in sinterability compared to samples using reagent-grade raw materials. Samples using coal ash showed a tendency for some increase in sinterability. In samples using coarse limestone and coal ash, the formation of Belite was high at 1350 ℃. The conversion rate from Belite to Alite was high in the range of 1350~1450 ℃. Samples using coal ash showed stable formation of interstitial phase in the range of 1350 to 1450 ℃. The microstructure and chemical composition distribution of cement clinker sintered at 1350~1450 ℃ showed that all samples showed a form and composition distribution in which the calcium silicate phase and interstitial phase were clearly distinguished.
To evaluate the cooling rate of clinker quantitatively, several clinkers with different cooling rate were made in the laboratory. The X-ray diffraction pattern of Ferrite 002 reflection were measured and the parameters were calculated by using split type pseudo-Voigt function. The X-ray diffraction patterns of the Ferrite phase in the clinkers from cement manufacturing plant were analyzed by using the parameters and the analysis program was developed to calculate the cooling rate quantitatively. The cooling rate coefficients of the clinkers were calculated by using the profile fitting method of the program and the influence of cooling rate on strength was evaluated. The results show that there is a close relation between the cooling rate of clinker and the strength of cement.

Coal ash is being considered as a source of silica and alumina for cement clinker. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect on cement clinker sintering by confirming the high-temperature microstructural change according to the firing temperature in the cement clinker sintering process of coal ash. In the coal ash used as a raw material for cement clinker, the shape change of the particle surface was confirmed from the sintering tem perature of 950 ℃. The shape of the coal ash disappeared from the sintering temperature higher than 1250 ℃. It was confirmed that the Al and Fe components of the coal ash were converted to the cement interstitial phase at a temperature higher than 1350 ℃. In addition, the clinker using a large amount of coal ash as a raw material showed a low content of Lime and a high content of Belite in the sintering tem perature range of 1150~1200 ℃. From this, it was confirmed that the formation of calcium silicate mineral proceeds more easily at the initial sintering temperature by the application of coal ash.
One of the trace constituents included in cement clinker, chromium, has become prominent and highly noticed lately as a social issue both inside and outside of this country because it affects the human body negatively. The purpose of the present study was to investigate leaching properties of water-soluble hexavalent chromium by different manufacturing conditions of cement clinker. Raw materials were prepared to add different $SiO_2$, $Al_2O_3$ and $Fe_2O_3$ sources. After the raw materials, such as limestone, sand and clay, iron ore was pulverized and mixed, and the raw meal was burnt at $1450^{\circ}C$ in a furnace with an oxidizing atmosphere. Leaching of soluble hexavalent chromium showed a tendency to decrease with an increasing LSF and IM. However, leaching of soluble hexavalent chromium increased with an increasing S.M. Alkali contents of iron source minerals is closely related to the leaching properties of soluble hexavalent chromium. Green sludge has the highest content of alkali added; leaching of water-soluble hexavalent chromium was mostly high. In order to reduce the water-soluble hexavalent chromium in cement, reducing the alkali content in raw materials is important.

Coal ash generated from thermal power plants using briquettes contains Si, Al, and Fe components. These components are the main components required for the manufacture of cement clinker. In particular, Al and Fe components form the interstitial phase of cement clinker and have an important effect on the sintering of cement clinker. In this study, a large amount of coal ash was applied as a raw material for cement clinker by content, and the mineral formation process of cement clinker to which coal ash was applied was confirmed by sintering temperature. It was confirmed that the intermediate phase was generated in the sintering temperature range of 1050 ~ 1150 ℃ in the cement clinker to which a large amount of coal ash was applied. As the content of coal ash increased, the production amount of the intermediate phase increased. The phase produced by the addition of coal ash is expected to be converted to calcium silicate phase and interstitial phase and disappear above 1350 ℃. The cement clinker applied with a large amount of coal ash at 1450 ℃ formed well-developed minerals equivalent to the standard cement clinker.

The cement clinker, the main raw material of cement, is manufactured using limestone as the main material. Depending on the quality of limestone, the use of subsidiary materials changes, and has a great influence on the production of cement clinkers. In this study, the effect of CaO content of limestone, a cement clinker material, on Raw Mill grinding and sintering of cement clinker was investigated. The grinding time of the union materials changed in the content of limestone CaO was measured to identify the grinding properties. The raw material combination was cleaned within a range of 1,350-1,500℃. The sintering performance of cement clinker by Burnability index calculation was identified. The lower the grade of limestone, the lower the grinding quality of the raw material combination. The lower the CaO content of limestone, the greater the variation in F-CaO for sintering temperature. The lower the class of limestone, the higher B. I. value was calculated, indicating the lower cement clinker sintering. In addition, the mineral analysis results of cement clinker showed that if the F-CaO value was low due to the increase in sintering temperature, the Belite content decreased and the Alite content increased. In the case of Alite, the ratio of R-type decreased and that of M-type increased as the content of limestone CaO increased.

In this study, cement clinkers were sintered at each temperature by replacing some of the clay components of cement clinkers with coal materials. The mineral phase change of sintered cement clinker was quantitatively analyzed by XRD-Rietveld method. As the sintering temperature of cement clinker increased, the amount of belite decreased, the amount of alite increased, and the amount of free-CaO decreased. The form of alite and belite could be distinguished at sintering temperature of 1450℃ or higher. The crystal size was greatly increased at 1500℃ sintering. It was confirmed that the excessive sintering was progressed. Free-CaO decreased with the increase of sintering temperature. At 1450 ℃ or higher, it was less than 0.5%. In 1450℃ or greater, it is determined that enough sintering is included. Therefore, the application of fly ash as a raw material of cement clinker was judged to be usable as a source of chemical components of alumina and iron raw materials.

In this study, cement clinker using a pure sample and clinker using 7% coal ash were sintered at a temperature of 1050~1500℃. Changes in the content of cement minerals and changes in microstructure by sintering temperature were reviewed. The application of coal ash as a raw material for cement clinker was applicable as a source of Al2O3 and SiO2. At a sintering temperature of 1350℃ or higher, the cement clinker applied with coal ash showed the same level of mineral content as compared to the cement clinker applied with pure raw material. The microstructure also showed a similar state, confirming that coal ash can be used as a raw material for cement. In XRD-Reitveld analysis, a maximum amount of Belite was produced at 1250℃. The conversion from Belite to Alite was observed from 1350℃. From 1350℃, the interstitial phase and the mineral phase presumed to be alite were distinguished. It was clearly distinguished from 1400℃. As the sintering temperature increased, the shape and boundary of the crystal phase became clear, and the size of the crystal phase was also increased.
