우레탄 폼 제조 사업장 작업자의 디이소시아네이트 피부노출 평가 (Assessment of Worker's Diisocyanates Skin Exposure at Polyurethane Foam Manufacturing Companies)

  • Objectives: Skin exposure to diisocyanates may be an important risk factor for respiratory sensitization to leading asthma. However little is known about the extent of worker's diisocyanates skin exposure and the effectiveness of personal protective equipments in polyurethane foam manufacturing companies. This study provides data on diisocyanates skin exposure, surface diisiocyantes contamination of foams and the effectiveness of personal protective gloves in five polyurethane foam manufacturing companies. Materials and methods Colorimetric SWYPE pads are used for the determination of diisocyanates on surfaces of workers skin and polyurethanes foams. Results: The forearms, necks and faces of workers in polyurethane foam manufacturing companies were found to be contaminated with diisocyanates. Heavy contamination with uncured diisocyanates at large block foams surfaces were found. Personal gloves of workers for skin protection showed significant penetrations by diisocyanates. Conclusions: We found that all workers in polyurethane foam manufacturing companies could be exposed to diisocyanates by skin exposure. Also further researches which would better quantify skin exposure are needed.

Improvement and Application for Environmental Conservation Value Assessment Map(ECVAM) of Nationwide Land in Korea

  • This study is aiming at improving the Environmental Conservation Value Assessment Map(ECVAM) of National Land in Korea. The ECVAM items are composed of legal and environmental/ecological assessments. A popular method applied to ECVAM is an overlay environmental/ecological assessment items. The purpose of this study is to offer complementary items of the ECVAM by examining assessment items. In this study we assessed the ECVAM by five methods. Method 1 is Grade 1 areas of each administrative district; Method 2 is comparing overlapped areas of each assessment items Grade 1, 2 and permission of each assessment items duplication; Method 3 is Grade 1, 2 areas by only singular assessment items; Method 4 is Grade 1 areas only of Method 2; and Method 5 is Grade 2 areas only of Method 2. Method 1 showed Seoul and other metropolitan cities revealed a large proportion of Grade I regions by the legal assessment items. Gang won-Do, showed a large proportion of Grade I regions by the environmental/ecological assessment item. Method 2 showed 93.4% of diameter Grade II(standard for stability); forest diameter item accounted for 99.9% by Method 3, Method 4 showed 95.7% of forest diameter, and forest density accounted for 66.4% by Method 5. This study contributes to reduce the complexity in the process of manufacturing ECVAM of National Land, and to raise the flexibility in the process of managing and updating this map.

  • The contents of aircraft system safety assessment vary depending on factors such as the complexity of the system, how critical the system is to flight safety, what volume of experience is available on the type of system and the novelty and complexity of the technologies being used. If the system safety assessment is to substantiate that the developed products are 'safe enough' to be taken into use, then the system safety assessment should be planned and managed to provide the necessary assurance that all relevant hazards and failure conditions have been identified and that all significant combinations of hazards and failures which could cause those conditions have been considered. The assessment must assist the designer and management in making decisions. It must make clear what the critical features of each system are and upon which special manufacturing techniques, inspection, testing, crew drills and maintenance practice they are critically dependent. This paper has prepared to study on promoting the efficiency of aircraft system safety assessment and to present how to compile system safety assessment strategy.

방직산업용 연삭숫돌 제작 및 성능평가에 관한 연구 (A Study on Grinding Wheel Manufacture and Assessment for Application in Weaving Machine)

  • A weaving machine for texture industry uses a lot of needles and the nib of these needles is necessary to be kept with sharp edge. The re-grinding of the needle by a special purpose of the grinding wheel can be selected for achieving this aim. This study focused on the manufacture and performance assessment the special grinding wheel. A forming mold for the grinding wheel was designed and a sintering process for furnace process control was established. Manufactured wheels were tested for determining suitable grade of the wheel. The selection of optimal grinding conditions was achieved by a response surface method and a genetic algorithm.

  • The prediction for tool life is one of the most important factors for increasing reliability, stability, and productivity of manufacturing system. This paper deals with a tool life prediction method in view of reliability assessment for cutting tools. In this study, flank wear was focused among multi-factors deciding the tool wear state. First, tool life was predicted by correlation between flank wear and cutting time, based on the extended Taylor tool life equation of turning, including parameters of cutting speed, feed rate, and cutting depth. Second, each of cutting conditions of end-milling was equivalently converted to apply ball end-mill data to the extended Taylor equation. The web-based prediction program for tool life was developed as one of reliability assessment programs for machine tools.

  • According to the ISO 14040(1997), Life Cycle Assessment is not the tool only focusing on the emissions from the manufacturing processes of a product, but the tool also expressing environmental adverse impact quantitatively through products entire life cycle (i.e. raw material acquisition, manufacturing, transportation, use, and end-of-life stage). Because the LCA for EMUs(Electrical Multiple Units), however, requires astronomical time and cost for collecting big amount of data. it is inevitable to bring in the simplified LCA methodology, In this study, we introduced standardized methodology of LCA in the world, and found appropriate S-LCA methodology for EMUs. Furthermore, we recommended how to evaluate the environmental impact of EMUs in detail and precisely, using the S-LCA.

  • In this paper an assessment has been proceeded about component technology that stamping car panel can be designed and manufactured efficiently. Also this study investigate standard model of CAD/CAM system in production process of automobile dies, Recently, motor companies are doing their best to increase productivity and to reduce production time. So to develop user-friendly and effective standard model of CAD/CAM system is very important. The cbtained results will lead to the reductions in lead time and man-hour required for the design and manufacture of the automobile dies.

  • The purpose of this study is to develop a method of evaluating eco-efficiency of concrete based on environmental load emission, manufacturing cost, and durability in the concrete production process. Eco-efficiency is an advanced concept used to evaluate eco-friendliness of concrete. This technique intends to produce environment-friendly and highly durable concrete while minimizing environmental load on the ecosystem and manufacturing cost based on the results of service life assessment on concrete. This technique can be utilized to efficiently evaluate sustainability of concrete and find methods to improve it. Furthermore, the vision of this study is to contribute to implementation of environment-friendly concrete and construction industry.

  • In order to assess the long-tenn reliability of polymer insulators for distribution power systems, we have developed the accelerated aging test method which can simulate the operation conditions. In this study, 3000 hours aging test for 4 kinds of polymer insulators has been completed by the developed accelerated aging test. After 3000 hours aging test, visual inspection and electrical tests were carried for identifying a change of characteristics. Some specimens showed the surface erosion and the manufacturing defect. In the electrical tests, the wet flashover voltage was significant1y decreased by the accelerated aging test. In comparison with the field-aged polymer insulators, it can be concluded that the developed test method can evaluate the long-tenn reliability within short time and screen the manufacturing defect.
