  • The first product liability laws went into effect in Korea in July 2002. A person who suffers personal injury or damage to property due to defects in a product may sue both the manufacturer and the seller of the product under the principles of Korea tort law. This paper presents an integrated methodology which is called the QDRD(Quality deployment and reliability deployment) for hazards analysis in new product designs. QDRD applies QFD, FMEA and FTA to identify the hazards component, hazardous situations and hazardous events which could lead to an accident. An example is provided to demonstrate hazards analysis on a product using the QDRD method.

  • This study is designed to find out the effects of price on the consumers'perceived quality, value and purchase willingness of clothing in order to get the basic information that is needed in helping clothing manufacturer's strategy for merchandising promotion on price. This study was conducted by means of a questionnaire survey of university students in seoul. SAS program was used for analysis. The conclusions of this study as follow: first, with respect to the price level of clothing, consumers evaluate the perceived quality of high-price case higher than that of low-price case, and evaluate the perceived value and purchase willingness of low-price case higher than those of high-price case. Second, with respect to the brand name level of clothing, consumers evaluate the perceived quality, perceived value and purchase willingness of well-known brand case higher than those of unknown brand can. Third, the interaction between price and brand dosen't appear. Thus from this result we can know that price and brand have the same amount of effect in both single-quo case and multi-que case. Forth, with respect to the price and brand name level of clothing, there exist significant differences in perceived quality, perceived value, and brand name level. Fifth, in the study of the relationship between perceived quality and purchase willingness and the relationship between the perceived value and purchase willingness, perceived value has more effect on purchase willingness than perceived quality.

  • Current noise is an important indication of quality in deposited carbon film resistors. Imperfections in the resistive film create high current densities and consequently high current noise. The magnitude of current noise is depend upon many inherent properties of the resistor such as resistive material and others such as processing, fabrication and packing of resistive elements, etc. Performance tests have definitely established a correlation between current noise and electrical performance of carbon film resistors. To interprete the normal distribution of the current noise index for representative groups of resistors would serve as a powerful tool in judging the Quality control and product uniformity by the manufacturer.

  • Applications of the deep hole drilling process can be found in many industries ranging from large aerospace manufacturer to small tool and die shop. Deep hole drilling process with small diameter generally requires high quality and accuracy. But problems which may arise or result from the deep hole drilling process include drill breakage, the generation of a finished part surface which does not satisfy required quality, and process instability. To guaranty the required machining quality and accuracy, it is important to understand and improve the deep hole drilling process. In this study, deep hole drilling experiments using tingle edge drill with small diameter under 2mm have been carried out for difficult to cut materials such as C42CrMo4 and C45pb and the experimental results were analyzed. Feed force and torque versus feed showed linear relationship in both materials. The feed force and torque are decreased as cutting speed is increased but the trends are not uniform in C42CrMo4.

  • Purpose: This study is to help the construction of smart factories of other manufacturing enterprises through IDIS 's case of smart factory construction. Methods: We introduce the four phases of implementing smart factory building by IDIS company, which produces a small quantity of multi-odd units. Results: Through the smart factory construction, the cost of product is reduced due to the improvement of total productivity such as office work, production work, and energy saving, and sales are enhanced by customized production, quality / delivery reliability improvement. Conclusion: We present the actual examples needed to build the manufacturer's smart factory.

  • Processes that products we consume that contain dairy foods comprise planning → design → production → quality/suitability assessment → safety verification → launch → distribution → consumption. Analysis of nutrients and potential toxins at each stage in the production process is essential to verify food quality, suitability, and safety. Products display ingredient lists and nutrient content to help consumers choose healthy foods. These products should also be fully assessed for microbes and toxins before reaching consumers. Products require verification through test inspections. However, this step has reduced value from a food manufacturer's viewpoint, because it does not visibly impact real economic trends. The most important first step in determining the quality and suitability of products is the inspection capability of food companies.

  • As the global market becomes more competitive, manufacturing industries face relentless pressure caused by a growing tendency of greater varieties of products, shorter manufacturing cycles and more sophisticated customer requirements. Efficient and effective supplier selection and order allocation decisions are, therefore, important decisions for a manufacturer to ensure stable material flows in a highly competitive supply chain, in particular, when customers are willing to accept products with less desirable product attributes (e.g., color, delivery date) for economic reasons. This paper attempts to solve optimally the challenging problem of supplier selection and order allocation, taking into consideration the customer flexibility for a manufacturer producing multi-products to satisfy the customers' demands in a multi period planning horizon. A new mixed integer programming model is developed to describe the behavior of the supply chain. The objective is to maximize the manufacturer's total profit subject to various operating constraints of the supply chain. Due to the complexity and non-deterministic polynomial-time (NP)-hard nature of the problem, an improved genetic approach is proposed to solve the problem optimally. This approach differs from a canonical genetic algorithm in three aspects: a new selection method to reduce the chance of premature convergence and two problem-specific repair heuristics to guarantee feasibility of the solutions. The results of applying the proposed approach to solve a set of randomly generated test problems clearly demonstrate its excellent performance. When compared with applying the canonical genetic algorithm to locate optimal solutions, the average improvement in the solution quality amounts to as high as ten percent.
