Objectives We report 1 treatment case with Onbaek-won which is based on Sasang constitutional medicine for specific symptoms that leukoaraiosis Soeumin patient has. Methods We treated leukoaraiosis Soeumin patient suffering from specific symptoms. We prescribed Onbaek-won for her physical symptoms. The improvement of her symptoms were evaluated by Manual Muscle Test(MMT) and Visual Analogue Scale(VAS). Results After the Onbaek-won was given, the patient's most of symptoms were improved. And there was not any adverse effect. Conclusions This study shows that using Onbaek-won can be effective treatment for leukoaraiosis Soeumin patient's specific symptoms.

Objectives: The aim of this study was to report the clinical improvement of a patient who underwent arthroscopic Bankart repair using a rehabilitation protocol involving Korean medicine. Methods: The patient was treated with acupuncture, cupping, Korean Medicine, Chuna therapy, and Doin exercise therapy during the admission period. To estimate the patient's status, we used the Numeric Rating Scale (NRS), Pain Disability Index (PDI), assessments of the range of motion (ROM) and Muscle Manual Test (MMT) for the shoulder joint. Results: After administering the abovementioned treatments, we found that the patient's NRS, PDI, and ROM and MMT for the shoulder joint were improved. Conclusions: The rehabilitation protocol involving Korean medicine can be applied to and produce good results for patients who undergo arthroscopic repair for Bankart lesions. The limitation of the study was that the number of cases we studied was insufficient to prove the effectiveness. Hence, further studies are needed for designing the rehabilitation protocol involving Korean medicine.

The objective of this study is to propose Korean Medicine treatment for recurrent limb weakness after Guillain-Barre syndrome (GBS) improvement by intraveinous immunoglobulin, and to report its effectiveness. Manual muscle test (MMT), Korean modified Bathel index (K-MBI), and tendon reflex were used to evaluate the patient. The patient was improved hip joint, knee joint, ankle joint MMT from grade 3-/3- to grade 5/5 and in the upper limb the patient can do big joint exercise but cannot do micromovement like writing or using cell phone. When discharge date the patient's wrist joint MMT grade is improved grade 5-/5- to grade 5/5. The K-MBI score is improved from 71 to 86 and there was a big change in walking and chair/bed transfer, there was no change in tendon reflex. This study suggests that Korean Medicine can be effective for patients who have recurrent limb weakness after GBS improvement.

본 증례보고는 GBS를 진단받고 IVIg치료 후 호중구 감소증이 동반된 환자를 위증(痿證)으로 변증하여 한약, 침구치료, 물리치료를 통해 환자의 증상 호전을 보였기에 보고하는 바이다.

The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of complex Korean medicine treatment especially Buja-tang and Aconitum ciliare decaisne pharmacopuncture on patients with type 1 complex regional pain syndrome caused after a traffic accident. The patients was treated with Buja-tang, Aconitum ciliare decaisne pharmacupuncture, acupuncture and physical therapy during 20 days of hospitalization. Numerical rating scale (NRS), short form McGill pain questionnaire (SF-MPQ), body temperature measurement of the foot, manual muscle test (MMT) were used for assessment. After treatments, NRS of burning pain in the left ankle decreased from 8 to 4-5 and NRS of burning pain in the right ankle decreased from 7 to 4-5. Also, SF-MPQ results, foot temperature measurement and MMT showed improvement during hospitalization. This study shows that complex Korean medicine treatment especially Buja-tang and Aconitum ciliare decaisne pharmacopuncture are effective in alleviating symptoms in patients with type 1 complex regional pain syndrome.

This report presents the clinical progress of a 50-year-old male diagnosed with a left acetabular fracture and left rib fracture after falling from a height of 3 m. The patient was treated nonsurgically and underwent complex traditional Korean medicine (TKM) treatment and rehabilitation, including acupuncture, electroacupuncture, pharmacopuncture, bee venom, herbal medicine, physiotherapy, and moxibustion. Patient progress was assessed using the numerical rating scale (NRS), manual muscle test (MMT), and modified Harris Hip Score (mHHS). During 113 days of hospitalization, the NRS score decreased from 7 to 3, and the MMT grade increased to normal in the hip, knee, and ankle joints. The mHHS score increased from 26 to 99 points. Radiographs and computed tomography scans of the left acetabulum were obtained periodically, and fracture union was successfully achieved. To our knowledge, this is the first case report of complex TKM treatment and rehabilitation of acetabular fractures.

Objective This case report is to show the effectiveness of Sasang Constitutional Medicine treatment on the patient with delayed encephalopathy after acute carbon monoxide intoxication. Methods A 40-year-old female patient diagnosed with delayed encephalopathy after carbon monoxide poisoning 2 weeks ago before visiting our hospital. The patient suffered gait disturbance and cognitive disorder. She was identified as Soyangin and treated with Sasang constitutional Herbal Medicine(Yangkyuksanwha-tang and Hyungbangjihwang-tang). Improvement of symptoms was evaluated through Korean Version of Mini Mental Status Examination score(MMSE-K), Modified Barthel Index(MBI), Manual Muscle Testing(MMT), Range of Motion(ROM) and Hand Function Test. Results After 7 weeks of treatment, total score of MMSE-K increased from 0 to 26, the patient could walk by herself and had no trouble carrying out her daily life. Conclusions This case showed the effectiveness of Sasang constitutional medicine treatment for delayed encephalopathy after acute carbon monoxide intoxication.

■ Objectives The goal of this study is to find the correlation between the motor function and gait pattern of stroke patients. ■ Methods We measured Manual muscle test(MMT), Motricity index(MI) and Spatiotemporal gait parameters of admitted hemiplegic patients with stroke. The gait parameters were measured using a Treadmill gait system. ■ Results There is a significant correlation between motor function and spatiotemporal parameters such as step length, stride length, step time, stride time, total double support or cadence, in stroke patients. ■ Conclusion The better motor function of stroke was, the more gait improved.

Objectives: The purpose of this study was to report the effectiveness of the combination of Korean medicine therapy on elderly patients with delirium due to overdose of sedative-hypnotics. Methods: The patient was diagnosed with delirium, which occurred after an overdose of sedative-hypnotics. The patient received Korean Medicine treatment, including herbal medicine, acupuncture, moxibustion and psychotherapy, and other treatments. The evaluation variables to check the effectiveness of the interventions were the Korean Version of the Delirium Rating Scale-Revised-98 (K-DRS-R-98) Mini-Mental State Examination-Korean (MMSE-K) Clinical Dementia Rating (CDR) and Manual Muscle Test (MMT). Results: During the hospitalization period, the K-DRS-R-98 score decreased from 31 to 4, MMSE-K score increased from 18 to 26. CDR score decreased from 2 to 0. MMT in the Right lower extremity was improved. Normal daily activities were possible. Conclusions: Combining Korean Medicine treatments, including herbal medicine, acupuncture, moxibustion, psychotherapy, and other treatments, may help alleviate delirium.

Spinal cord infarction is one of the rare strokes with no clear signs of serious nerve damage or after-effects. This study reports on the effectiveness of a combined treatment of Korean medicine and acupuncture on bilateral paraplegia, dysuria, and constipation in a patient with sudden-onset spinal cord infarction. An 84-year-old male patient was diagnosed with spinal cord infarction in August 2022. After diagnosis by whole spine MRI, he received treatment for two months at another hospital, but the improvement was insignificant. He then received Korean medicine treatment, and during this period, his lower extremity manual muscle test grade improved from 3 to 4 and his modified Rivermead mobility index score increased by 13 points, compared with hospitalization. Dysuria improved with acupuncture, and constipation improved with herbal medicine treatment. A combination of herbal medicine and acupuncture can be used to treat paraplegia, dysuria, and constipation caused by spinal cord infarction.
