Objectives: To evaluate the evidence supporting the effectiveness and safety of Chinese medicine, including Chuna manual therapy, for the treatment ofosteoarthritis. Methods: We conducted a search of 8 electronic databases(Pubmed, Web of Science, EMBASE, Cochrane Library, CAJ, KISTI, NDSL, and RISS) to find all randomized controlled clinical trials that discuss Chuna manual therapy forosteoarthritis till May 2018. Results: Our inclusion criteria selected 7eligible RCTs involving 633 participants. The meta-analysis of 6 studies showed positive results for the useof Chinese medicine, including Chuna manual therapy, for treating knee osteoarthritis. There was no evidence of worsening symptoms or any adverse events. Conclusions: Our systematic review found favorable evidence regardingthe effectiveness of Chinese medicine, including Chuna manual therapy, for treating knee osteoarthritis. However, our systematic review had several limitations owingto the low quality of original articles andadditionalclinical trials would be necessary for stronger evidence.

Objectives To assess the effectiveness of Chuna manual therapy in patients with Tourette's syndrome. Methods We queried nine electronic databases using the keywords "Tourette's Syndrome" and "tuina OR chuna" to identify RCTs that investigated the effectiveness of Chuna manual therapy in patients with Tourette's syndrome. Results Thirteen RCTs were selected according to the inclusion criteria. A systematic review showed that Chuna manual therapy can have a curative effect on patients with Tourette's syndrome. Conclusions In this study, 13 RCTs reported that Chuna manual therapy was effective for Tourette's syndrome. These findings provide a basis for its clinical use. However, all studies involved populations belonging to the same country. Many studies lacked details of the research methodology. Therefore, further studies are required to produce high-quality evidence.
The term thoracic outlet syndrome (TOS) is used to describe patients with compressed subclavian arteries, veins, and brachial plexuses in the region of the thoracic outlet. The objective of this study was to evaluate a scalenus stretching exercise that aims to restore normal function to patients with TOS. This study consisted of 60 patients with symptoms of TOS, and divided the patients into 3 groups: one that received manual therapy, one that practiced self stretching, and a control group. Each group consisted of 20 patients. This study assessed the efficacy of scalenus stretching exercise by examining the resting pain, tenderness, spherical grip power, and pinch grip power of patients. The data were analyzed using one-way ANOVA, Scheffe post hoc test, and independent t-test. The results showed that resting pain was statistically significant within the manual therapy and self stretching groups (p<.05), and that the resting pain of the manual therapy group was more statistically significant than that of the self stretching group (p<.05). Tenderness, spherical grip power, and pinch grip were statistically significant within the manual therapy and self stretching groups (p<.05), but there was no statistically significant difference between the two groups (p>.05). Finally I could see that there were no statistical differences between manual therapy and self stretching to improve the symptoms of the patients with TOS. These results imply that self stretching by patients is as important as manual therapy by a physical therapist.

Background: Spasmodic torticollis is a disorder that is described by sustained muscle contractions causing repetitive and twisting movements, and abnormal postures in a single body region. The purpose of this case is to describe the manual therapy for a patient with spasmodic torticollis. Methods: The patient was a 64 years old man with an 3 month history of left side laterocollis spasmodic torticollis. No known genetic history or trauma. Prior to intervention, his score on the Western Spasmodic Torticollis Rating Scale (TWSTRS) severity score was 24, disability score was 20, pain score was 11. There is a noticeable distinction between left and right side cervical range of motion. The intervention consisted of manual therapy (MET, PNF) 3 times per week for the treatment during 4 weeks. Results: After intervention for 4weeks, his TWSTRS score and range of motion was improved quite a bit before therapeutic exercise. But symptoms are not improving sufficiently fast. Conclusions: Manual therapy is that MET and PNF is effective in improving for patient had spasmodic torticollis with laterocollis of neck.
It is necessary to produce properly educated Manual Lymph Drainage (MLD) specialists conducted by certified instructors. This study was conducted to introduce a comprehensive understanding, application, historical background, and effect of the MLD and to present a basis for using the frequency MLD as a basic resource for training professional. MLD, a field of manual therapy, is used to treat a variety of diseases such as joint disease, circulatory system disease, lymphedema, and pain et al. However, since there is no proper education for MLD in Korea, there is a need to provide education that meets internationally accepted standards. The Physical Therapists Association and related academic societies will need to prepare a system to train specialists on MLD and to recognize medical insurance through it.
Objectives : CHUNA therapy that removes compression of dislocated vertebral bones has positive effect, but sometimes improper CHUNA manual therapy may give rise to negative effect. The aim of this study is to make sure that cervical CHUNA manual therapy give positive effect or negative effect to the blood flow velocity of vertebral artery(VA) and basilar artery(BA) by Trancranial Doppler sonography(TCD). Methods : We performed TCD study on 20patients(male 5, female 15, mean ages 38.5 years) with diagnosis like cervical movement related disorder, headache or dizziness. After we measured mean blood flow velocity(Vm) of VA and BA before cervical CHUNA therapy(Pre-CCT) and after cervical CHUNA therapy(Post-CCT), statistically evaluated the results. Results: The patients received cervical CHUNA therapy for TA sequel, HIVD of cervical spine, headache, dizziness, neck stiffness etc. VA Vm was $31.9{\pm}8.0cm/sec$ before CHUNA therapy, but significantly increased $35.0{\pm}8.7cm/sec$ after CHUNA therapy (p < 0.05). But, there was no significant variation of BA Vm between $41.8{\pm}7.5cm/sec$ Pre-CCT and $41.2{\pm}8.5cm/sec$ Post-CCT(p>0.05). Though VA Vm slightly increased after CHUNA therapy in normal range group, there was no significant variation between VA Vm Pre-CCT and VA Vm Post~CCT. In VA Vm decrease group, VA Vm significantly increased after CHUNA therapy(p<0.05). But, there was no significant variation of BA Vm between Pre-CCT and Post-CCT in BA Vm normal range group and BA Vm decrease group(p>0.05). Conclusions: These findings suggest that cervical CHUNA manual therapy have positive effect on blood flow velocity of VA and BA.

Purpose: Many people are suffering from Low back pain due to HIVD and muscular problems, lack of joint functions on lumbar spine. In this study we compared the change of the herniation index, Oswestry LBP disability index (OLDI), visual analog scale (VAS), lumbar flexion range of motion (ROM) between the pre-experiment and after 4 weeks treatment by maitland manual therapy. Method: we selected and managed both the 15 people. They are $46.80{\pm}15.46$ years old people with HIVD and Stenosis. We treated for the people with HIVD and Stenosis by manual therapy(maitland manipulation method) during 4 weeks. And then we compared with pre-experiment and after 12 weeks through measuring the herniation index change by using computor themograpy (CT), LBP OLDI, VAS, lumbar flexion ROM. Results: The changes in the herniation index, Oswestry lumbar Disability Index, VAS, lumbar flexion ROM between the pre-experiment and after 4 weeks treatment by maitland manual therapy, there was a statistically significant difference. Although there was a significant difference after 4 weeks in OLDI, VAS, lumbar flexion ROM. But disc herniation index was no significant difference. Conclusion: Manual therapy is very effective for Lumbago due to the HIVD and spinap stenosis patients. OLDI, VAS and lumbar flexion ROM were increased. But disc herniation index was no significant difference. We suggest the combination treatment between manual exercise and spinal traction.

Background: The purpose of this study is to investigate that effect of manual therapy using pelvic compression belt on hip abductor strength and balance ability in total knee replacement (TKR) patients. Methods: The subjects consisted of twenty two post-TKR patients. Participants were randomly assigned to a pelvic belt group (n=11) and a placebo group (n=11). All participants underwent manual therapy including range of motion exercise, soft tissue mobilization around knee joint, strengthening exercise (Quad set, SLR, sidelying hip abduction, standing hamstring curls, sitting knee extension, step-up, wall slide to $45^{\circ}$ knee flexion). Manual therapy was executed five times a week for 2 weeks. Outcome measures included hip abductor strength by using Biodex system 4 pro, anterior to posterior balance, medial to lateral balance, total balance by using Biodex balance system SD. Results: After the completion of the manual therapy, hip abductor strength was showed statistically significant improvements in pelvic belt group (p<.05). Anterior to posterior balance, medial to lateral balance, total balance were showed statistically significant improvements in pelvic belt group and placebo group (p<.05). There was a statistically significant difference between the two groups in hip abductor strength and there was no statistically significant difference in balance. Conclusions: This results suggest that manual therapy using pelvic compression belt has could be used for selective muscle activation of the hip abductor muscle and has useful in hip abductor strength and balance ability in TKR patients.
