An output multiplexer of manifold type is widely employed in a recent satellite transponder due to its small size and mass. For correct operation, channel fillers in manifold multiplexer must be singly terminated. In this paper, a simple synthesis method fur a single terminated filter is described. From the given method, a 4-pole singly terminated elliptic function filter for Ka band satellite transponder is designed. The filter is shown to be suitable for satellite application and its measured results agrees well with computed ones.

Numerous evidence have been reported that fine particulate matters can play an important role in threatening human health. Recently concerns on fine particle pollution from various engines may require re-examination of particulate emission standards. The particles emitted by most diesel engines are mainly divided into their size ranges such as Dp< 50 nm and 50 nm< Dp< 1,000 nm. In this work, the number concentration and the size distribution of fine particles emitted from an exhaust manifold of a railroad diesel engine were measured under load test conditions using a scanning mobility particle sizer (SMPS). The fine particles observed were within the range of 7 to 304 nm under different load conditions with two different dilution ratios. The fine particles exhibited unique patterns showing bimodal shapes in size distribution.
The uniform gas distribution between anode channels of the indirect internal reforming type molten carbonate fuel cell (MCFC) is crucial design parameter because of the electric performance and the durability problems. A three-dimensional computational fluid dynamics (CFD) analysis is performed to investigate flow characteristics in the anode channels and manifold under different pressure drop and channel temperature conditions. The combined meshes consists of hexadral meshes in the channels and polyhedral meshes in the manifold are adopted and chemical reactions inside the MCFC system are not included because of computational difficulties associated with the size and geometric complexity of the system. Results indicate that the uniformity in flow-rate is in the range of $\pm$ 0.048 % between the anode channels when the pressure drop of anode channel is about 150 Pa. A gas flow-rate uniformity decreases as the pressure drop of anode channels decreases and as the temperature difference between indirect internal reforming (IIR) channels and anode channels increases.

Two dimensional locality preserving projections (2D-LPP) is an improved algorithm of 2D image to solve the small sample size (SSS) problems which locality preserving projections (LPP) meets. It's able to find the low dimension manifold mapping that not only preserves local information but also detects manifold embedded in original data spaces. However, 2D-LPP is simple and elegant. So, inspired by the comparison experiments between two dimensional linear discriminant analysis (2D-LDA) and linear discriminant analysis (LDA) which indicated that matrix based methods don't always perform better even when training samples are limited, we surmise 2D-LPP may meet the same limitation as 2D-LDA and propose a novel matrix exponential method to enhance the performance of 2D-LPP. 2D-MELPP is equivalent to employing distance diffusion mapping to transform original images into a new space, and margins between labels are broadened, which is beneficial for solving classification problems. Nonetheless, the computational time complexity of 2D-MELPP is extremely high. In this paper, we replace some of matrix multiplications with multiple multiplications to save the memory cost and provide an efficient way for solving 2D-MELPP. We test it on public databases: random 3D data set, ORL, AR face database and Polyu Palmprint database and compare it with other 2D methods like 2D-LDA, 2D-LPP and 1D methods like LPP and exponential locality preserving projections (ELPP), finding it outperforms than others in recognition accuracy. We also compare different dimensions of projection vector and record the cost time on the ORL, AR face database and Polyu Palmprint database. The experiment results above proves that our advanced algorithm has a better performance on 3 independent public databases.

Today, one of the most important objective in automobile development is to reduce the weight of automobile . The eventual depletion of petroleum and environmental regulations brought considerable emphasis to this area on increasing fuel efficiency. Conventional intake air-fuel system is very heavy because it is composed of numerous parts. The bulky size caused increase in the amount of metal being used to build automobile chassis and this became a serious weight problem. The size also caused difficulties in optimization of fuel supply system which in turn decreased engine efficiency. Currently , there are efforts to integrate several intake system modules into one. The purpose of this paper is to evaluate the directions of such development.

This study was initiated to evaluate the cooling performance of CAC (charged air cooler) and radiator in the engine room of a mini bus. So we had firstly to predict the mass flow rate coming from radiator grille and front bum per opening using computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulation based on 3D configuration. And simulations were carried out for different cooling module layout and bum per opening hole size on sam e vehicle operating condition. Simulation results show that CAC cooling performance at reverse protecting plate-applying model was much efficient than that of the bum per opening hole size-increasing model in IMTD point of view. Part of the CFD simulation results was com pared to with experimental data. It was confirm ed that the CFD approach using STAR-CD based on pursuing no-com promise solution could provide design engineers with useful design information in the early design stage of vehicle development.

A risk assessment is performed at the initial design stage of LNG-fuelled ships subject to new fuel supply systems due to marine environmental and emissions regulations. Risk assessment involves a series of logical steps that enable systematic risk analysis and evaluation. LNG-fuelled ships mainly consist of a tank for storing LNG, a gas supply unit for supplying LNG to the engine, an engine using LNG as fuel, and a bunkering manifold for receiving LNG. The components of the LNG fuelled ship are determined according to the characteristics, size, rout, and operating distance. Therefore, the risk factors of each ships are different, and the risk analysis also changes. In this study we consider the systems of ships using LNG as a fuel and analyze the risk assessment of certain cases where the actual risk assessment has been carried out.
Spray characteristics of a twin-hole air shrouded nonle designed for gasoline injectors was investigated by using laser diffraction particle analyzer (LDPA) and tomography reconstruction- A confined spray chamber which is optically accessible through a pair of glass windows was made to simulate the fuel injection condition in intake manifold of gasoline engine. The measurement was applied to the twin hole injector with and without an air shroud. It demonstrates that for the case with an air shroud, fine atomization is achieved and there exists a large number of fine droplets between the region of the main spray streams, which conforms with the spray visualization. The drop size distribution was investigated as a function of elapse time after fuel injection. The distribution was greatly affected by the measurement position from the injector exit. Also, the spatially resolved spray volume fraction and Sauter Mean Diameter (SMD) from line-of-sight data of the LDPA are tomographically reconstructed by Convolution Fourier transformation under the steady injection condition.
Recently, a great deal of research and development of a fuel cell have been carried out to solve problems on the drain of fossil fuel, air pollution and global warning. In order to improve the efficiency of a fuel cell, it is necessary to clarify the flow in separator. In this study, distributions of velocity flow rate and pressure, and streamlines are examined in detail from numerical analysis with CFD code. In the experiment the distribution of flow rate is measured and flow in the each grooves of the separator is visualized by dye method changing Reynolds number. Furthermore, effects of size of the inlet and outlet manifolds and shape of ribs near the inlet outlet on the distributions of flow and pressure are examined.
Mixture formation is one of the important factors to improve combustion performance of MPI gasoline engines. This is affected by spray and atomization characteristics of injector. Especially, in the case of EGI system, air-fuel mixing period is too short and formed a lot of fuel-film in the intake manifold and cylinder wall. This fuel-film is not burnt in cylinder, it is exhausted in the form of HC emission. In this paper, spray characteristics such as size distributions, SMD, and spray angle are measured by PMAS, and the fuel-film measuring device is developed specially. Using this device, the amount and distribution of fuel-film which flows into through valve can be measured Quantitatively. As the result of these experiments, the information of optimal spray characteristics and injection condition that minimize the fuel-film can be built up.
