Purpose - Owing to economic development and rapid globalization, the number of people traveling abroad has increased dramatically in recent years. For instance, according to data from World Tourism Organization, approximately 1,724 million tourists traveled abroad in 2016. This phenomenon has resulted in a change for domestic markets, as they no longer serve only domestic customers but also serve foreign customers as well. Therefore, intercultural service encounters between services providers and customers from diverse cultural backgrounds are becoming more frequent. Especially in the field of retailing, salesperson's customer oriented selling behavior is particularly important for the successful interactions. However, it is hard to find some factors that can improve salesperson's customer oriented selling behavior in intercultural sales encounters. Research design, data, and methodology - A quantitative survey methodology was utilized to collect data on 312 salespeople at duty-free shops located on Jeju Island, Korea. As a tourism-based region, Jeju Island has attracted a large number of foreign tourists since being designated as an international free city in 2002. Owing to this phenomenon, intercultural sales encounters between salespersons and customers from different cultures have become commonplace. Compared to other salespeople, salespeople working in duty-free shops have more frequent intercultural interactions, as over 90% of their total customers are from foreign countries. Additionally, regular professional training programs for salespeople help cultivate cultural intelligence. Data analysis was conducted using SPSS 20. Results - This paper explores the role of empathy and cultural intelligence in intercultural sales encounters using a theoretical model incorporating the causal relationships between empathy(cognitive empathy and emotional empathy) and customer oriented selling behavior, as well as the moderating effects of cultural intelligence in these relationships. Conclusions - This study is almost the first to explore the influence of empathy and cultural intelligence in intercultural sales encounters. Thus, this study provides a meaningful contribution to the application of empathy and cultural intelligence in the retailing field and will draw the attention of personal distribution practicers and researchers to the importance of empathy and cultural intelligence. Additionally, this study has useful managerial implications for employee selection, training, and development in retailing firms engaged in intercultural sales encounters.

The purpose of this study is to investigate the educational needs for career development according to the job type of nursing college students. In order to achieve the purpose of the study, 146 nursing college students from K and P universities in the Busan and Kyungnam areas were analyzed using a career anchor questionnaire. In addition, 28 nursing college students who showed a higher level of tendency among job types were selected and divided into 4 teams, and a focus group interview was conducted based on the contents of the created map. Its purpose is to investigate the educational needs of nursing college students to enhance their career development. First, the career anchor types of the nursing college students showed the highest score in the areas of lifestyle, security and stability, while the lowest types of career anchor were pure challenge and general managerial competence. Second, the educational needs for career development were categorized into four areas, namely major competence, practical competence, personality competence, and resource management competence. The major competences are nursing expertise and skills. The practical competences consisted of ward task management, communication, crisis coping ability and personality competence and these were divided into cooperation and responsibility recognition. The resource management competence consists of time management ability and stress management ability. The results of this study are meaningful in that they can be used as the basic educational data for the career development of nursing college students in the future. In addition, it is expected that they can be applied to the development of a curriculum for the improvement of nursing practice.
In 2014, the Financial Services Commission designated the Tech Credit Bureaus(TCB) to issue technical credit evaluation reports. The Five credit rating agencies, KEB Hana Bank and others have issued the technical credit reports since the summer in 2014. Meanwhile, the technology evaluation model of KEB Hana Bank consists of 25 detailed evaluation items. These item classes are weighted and the technology rating is systematically. The technology rating is combined with the credit rating to calculate the technology-credit rating. In this paper, we analyzed the 406 evaluation results issued by KEB Hana Bank. Based on the number of years of work experience, company managerial years, technical personnel score, the possession of R&D department, the amount of R&D investment, the number of certifications, and the number of patents, the Correlation between the above items and the technical grade was analyzed. It was found that quantitative indicators such as the presence of R&D department, patent numbers, and R&D investment expenses had a significant effect on the company's technology grade, and in particular, the presence of R&D department was shown a high correlation with the technology rating.

This study aims to empirically investigate the effects of the individual-level characteristics on their timing decisions for their enlistments even though military services are their duties under a draft system. The individual characteristics considered include five psychological factors, such as attitude, uncertainty, information search level, future expectation, and perceived risk towards army, and other several demographic variables. Measurement scales for these psychological variables are developed and a duration model for individuals' enrollment timing decisions is also proposed. The proposed model is fitted to a survey data set collected from both those who have completed military service and those who have not. The estimation results show that two of five psychological variables, negative attitude and perceived risk, and several demographic variables, including education level, income level, residence area, and the number of family members serving the army, have meaningful impacts on the timing decisions for military service. Specifically, the enlistment timings are found to be more delayed as negative attitude towards army is stronger, perceived risk on army is higher, education level is higher, academic performance is better, income level is either low or high, residence area is either Seoul or big cities, and the proportion of family members enlisted is smaller. Several important managerial implications for alleviating problems resulting from enrollment postponements are also discussed.
This research suggests a structural model of green purchase behavior, focusing on the moderating effect of affordability. Affordability means buying power or ability to buy products. Based on the literature review, a research model of behavior of buying green products was proposed and tested empirically using the field study. To examine the proposed research model, the reliability and validity verifications on measurement items were carried out and then the structural equation model analysis was applied to test the model. Lastly, to test the moderating effect of affordability, a two-group model(using Amos program) was used subsequently so that it could be determined whether or not there was any significant difference in structural parameters between the high affordability group and the low affordability group. The empirical results are as follow: Firstly, green purchase attitude is influenced by ecological concern and collectivism, then green purchase attitude has an impact on green purchase intention, and in turn, green purchase intention affects green purchase behavior. Secondly, affordability significantly moderates the relationship between green purchase intention and green purchase behavior. These results are consistent with the past researches and based on them, some managerial implications are given.
This study aims to identify which social information have significant influence on the improvement of recommendation trust and how these effects can be different according to the product involvement level. Based on the relevant literature reviews, this study posits four characteristics of recommendation trust, which are closeness, similarity, sincerity, and reputation, and established a research model for the relationship between social information and recommendation trust. And we found a moderating effect of product involvement on the relationship between social information and recommendation trust. 205 trust relationships(links) from 55 respondents of Google Docs. survey data have been collected and tested using multiple regression and hierarchical regression analysis. The results of our hypotheses testing are summarized as follows. Firstly, four social information characteristics of closeness, similarity, sincerity, and reputation have a significantly positive effect on recommendation trust. Secondly, a moderating effect of product involvement between recommendation trust and antecedents (e.g., closeness and reputation) of social information is significant. From the results, we provide theoretical and managerial implications, and suggestions for further research.
The purpose of this study was to provide basic materials needed to enhance quality of organizational life by identifying the improvements of labor union management in the perspective of hospital organization management. The subjects of this study were 510 employees in 1 University Hospital and 3 General Hospitals in Metro Capital including Seoul. Materials were collected from administrators, nurses and medical technicians in target hospitals from April 26 to May 7, 2004 through survey questionnaires. The main results of this study were as follows: First, From the results of multiple regression analysis to identify major influencing factors of labor union commitment level, In University hospitals, males than females, and those who had senior officer posts in labor union showed higher positive correlation with the attitude of their colleagues. In general hospitals, those who had served in Union for shorter period showed higher commitment in union. Second, When looking into the major influencing factors on the level of commitment in labor union according to their jobs, male administrators showed higher positive correlation in the level of commitment in labor union and the relationship with union. Among nurses, those who had lower education level, those who had higher job satisfaction, those who had higher emotional attachment to their job, those who had better relationship with union and better satisfaction in union showed higher commitment level. In medical technicians, those who had higher emotional attachment to their job showed higher commitment level. To summarize study results, the level of commitment in labor union depends on job satisfaction, managers' attitudes, emotional attachment to their jobs, union satisfaction factors, their colleagues attitudes toward union and thee atmosphere of employer-employee relationship. Therefore hospital managers should have democratic and flexible attitudes toward labor union. Additionally, as job satisfaction is important determinant in union commitment, hospital managers should have countermeasures to enhance the job satisfaction level of hospital employees. Moreover, as managerial factors of the principal of hospital influence union commitment directly, the attitudes of hospital managers toward union and transparency of hospital management should be improved.

This study analyzed the causes of warehouse fires using a creative problem-solving technique called TRIZ. It identified preventive measures by applying 4M. The results are as follows. First, this study examined the inconsistency among the causes of warehouse fires using TRIZ. Second, it analyzed human factors and fire prevention measures in warehouses such as safety standards for managers, and methods for the promotion of safety consciousness among workers, and for the reinforcement of construction technology for sandwich panel workers. Third, it identified the mechanical and facility factors and fire prevention measures in warehouses such as safety facilities, the expanded installation of safety devices, the adoption and development of fire suppression equipment, and the deployment of methods to improve the fire resistance of sandwich panels. Fourth, it presented working and environmental factors and fire prevention measures in warehouses such as the tightening of safety precautions and the supervision of working methods, and setting fire partitions both in loading places and based on performance-based design. Finally, it proposed managerial factors and fire prevention measures in warehouses such as specific targeting for firefighting with low fire hazards, reviewing the material quality regulations of non-combustible or higher for sandwich panels in the specific target of firefighting that cannot apply fire safety standards, installing sprinklers in cold storage, and mandating the installation of automated facilities with retroactive application regardless of the floor area in the warehouse with a sandwich panel structure.
The purpose of this study was to make a comparative analysis of the oral health knowledge, attitude and awareness of students in schools equipped with and without a dental clinic in the city of Gwacheon. The subjects in this study were 782 students in that area. Out of them, 398 students attended a school furnished with a dental clinic, and 384 attended another school that wasn't equipped with a dental clinic. It's ultimately meant in this study to contribute to boosting the managerial efficiency of a school dental clinic and stepping up the development of quality oral health programs. The findings of the study were as follows: 1. When the students from the two schools were compared in terms of oral health knowledge, there wasn't any significant gap between the two groups in general. One difference was that the students from the school furnished with a dental clinic were more aware of presentive treatment provided by a dental clinic than the others from the other school. 2. As for attitude to oral health, there was no significant difference between the two in every regard except daily mean frequency of having a snack. 3. Regarding oral health belief, the students from the school equipped with a dental clinic had a better oral health belief in every aspect including health status, importance of oral health and interest than the others, and the difference between the two was significant. 4. Concerning perception of school dental clinic, the students from the school furnished with a dental clinic were better cognizant of it. As to the necessity of it, both groups viewed it as necessary for the prevention and treatment of dental caries. In terms of preference for school dental clinic, the students from the school furnished with a dental clinic had a greater preference for that.
The purpose of this study was to examine differences in motivation of the tourists, who visited the Daegu Ole Palgong mountain courses, according to the slow tourism tourists' demographic characteristics and use-behavior, and to examine the relationships between motivation and the degree of satisfaction of tourists and behavioral intention. Also, it was to present motivations and characteristics of slow tourism tourists and the accompanying managerial implications. In order to achieve this research purpose, a survey was conducted from May 8, 2010 to May 23, 2010 on the tourists who visited Daegu Ole Palgong mountain courses. The results of testing the hypotheses through empirical analysis were as follows. First, differences in motivations according to demographic characteristics and demographic characteristics and the use behavior of the tourists were partially adopted. Second, there were significantly positive (+) relationships between the motivations of visitors to the Daegu Ole Palgong mountain courses and the overall degree of satisfaction. Finally, the overall degree of satisfaction with the visits to Daegu Ole Palgong mountain courses had significantly positive (+) relationships with revisit intentions. These imply that it is necessary to provide differentiated strategies and programs and inducing strategies in accordance with the results presented. as well, marketing strategies to enhance the degree of satisfaction of the tourists should be considered.
