This paper considers a reliability problem as a special type of flow problem and presents an algorithm to evaluate the exact 2-terminal reliability of networks by using a backtracking technique. It employs a polygon-to-chain reduction in addition to series and parallel reduction techniques to reduce execution time. In comparisons, it presents a much better performance than other algorithms known to us. We also propose a methodology to apply the algorithm for approximation of the system reliability.

In this paper the Rao-Blackwell and Lehmann-$Scheff{\acute{e}}$ Theorem are used to drive the minimum variance unbiased estimators of system reliability for a number of distributions when a system consists of n Components whose random life times are assumed to be independent and identically distributed. For the case of a negative exponential life time, we obtain the maximum likelihood estimator of the system reliability and compair it with minimum variance unbiased estimator of the system reliability.

The derived expressions and computations of the system reliability in the consecutive k out of n failure structure with sink-source pole are discussed and a new simplified formulation to compute the reliability of consecutive k out of $n^*$ failure system is presented, and the relations with system reliability when the number of first consecutive falied components from source is greater than k are presented in this paper. The new simplified formulation is illustrated in the numerical experiments.

A practical algorithm of generating most probable states in decreasing order of probability, given the probability of each unit\`s state, is suggested for approximating reliability(performability) evaluation of a network with multistate(multimode) units. Method of approximating network reliability for a given measure with most probable states is illustrated with a numerical example. The proposed method in this paper is compared with the previous method regarding memory requirement. Our method has some advantages for computation and achieves improvement with regard to memory requirement for a certain condition judging from the computation experiment.

A simple but practical approach to evaluate the reliability of electronic ballasts for the low wattage fluorescent lamp has been presented in this study. We briefly reviewed the basic concepts of the electronic ballast. We then proposed a simple model and evaluated the reliability of the ballast using computer simulation.

In this paper, we obtain maximum likelihood estimator(MLE) of a parallel system reliability for the Marshall and Olkin's bivariate exponential model with birariate type 1 consored data. The asymptotic normal distribution of the estimator is obtained. Also we construct an a, pp.oximate confidence interval for the reliability based on MLE. We present a numerical study for obtaining MLE and a, pp.oximate confidence interval of the reliability.

Human-machine serial systems must be normal in both systems. Though the failure of machine is irreducible by itself, the human errors are of recurring type. When the human performance is described quantitatively, non-homogeneous Poisson Process model of human errors can be developed. And the model parameters can be estimated by maximum likelihood estimation and numerical analysis method. System reliability is obtained by multiplying machine reliability by human reliability.

IEC 60300 series, the international standards on reliability management system are newly developed and introduced rapidly worldwide. In order to meet this fast-changing situation, it is necessary to apply them to the Korean industries effectively. It includes the establishment of the infrastructure such as documentation of Korean Standards, introduction of test equipments and test manuals, accreditation of the certification bodies and training of the specialists etc. IEC 60300 is upgraded management system of the ISO 9000 and ISO 14000. In this regard, the Korean companies which were certified with the ISO 9000 or 14000 should endeavor to find new strategies and methods to be certified with IEC 60300. This paper introduces a Quantitative method of estimating the level of the reliability management system by applying the MIR(Maturity Index on Reliability) technique. This enables the estimation of the operation level of the system and can upgrade the maturity level of it.
